What's the battery health of these? That's my biggest concern, its abit useless if the battery health is really low, then it comes a desktop PC always tethered to the power point.

    • -4

ad says “Battery tested and works for 6 to 8 Hrs after full charge”

    • +5

As a corporate laptop they would've been sitting at 100% frequently, terrible for health. You could replace the battery for maybe $100.

    • +8

I always assume that the battery will need to be replaced during the 4 year lifespan I plan to get out of the laptop because batteries typically last about 4 years anyway.

This means that choosing a laptop which has an easily replaceable and easily obtainable battery is critical.

Battery tested and works for 6 to 8 Hrs after full charge.

That beats all laptops on this planet.

    • I agree, sometimes common sense can make a person a genius

      • +2

imagine if that is typo, the right sentence is
works for 6 to 8 mins after full charge

Got a Dell Latitude 7390 refurb last year (A grade) for $350 that has a basically new battery and does 10 hrs.

On a Dell Latitude 7300 refurb bought 2 weeks ago (A grade). Battery report says 83% of original capacity. Testing it now and does close to 10 hours $319 ebay then got 20% off on the refurb deal a few weeks back.

All current Apple laptops do 10-20hrs from a full charge.

  • +7

They are refurbished but mine did come with lower battery. Bought with bufferstock last time
Normally A is 80 percent but mine was 74 percent. They were very helpful and sent me stuff to print and return. I ended up keeping it anyway but something to keep in mind

Does your unit last 2 hours of normal use?

  • +2

$80 or so replacement battery it seems….

    • -1

Even with a new battery, it won't reach 2 hours mark I suppose.

      • +1

Why not? 2 hours is quite a low bar. I'd be guessing 4 hours.

I have used these type of laptops new and they got 6 hours SOT on 4G.

      • -1

Based off what? I've got T480 and comfortably did 2 hours while using my IDE, browsing the net and running a VM in background.

    • Don't know if the link is for a random ballpark figure for battery replacement but beware of these non-genuine ones and also this doesn't seem to be the correct replacement part for the T480s either.

  • Just got the Ryzen one. Any shipping info (must have missed it with all the FOMO)?

Bought two laptops from these guys this year. One was in pretty bad condition for a classified "A grade" laptop. The other one had a windows password lock. Tried to contact them a few times by email and phone number but no answer and no reply.

    • Did you just reinstall windows? They should have installed a fresh copy. It is like they didn't even start it up.

      • +6

No. I just needed the original password from them so I can create a new password. But they did not return my messages. Also, warranty is worthless when they don't reply to your calls or messages. They don't even have a phone number on their website.

        • this seems to be true…

    • I found their service was great. I got a reply within 2 minutes after emailing sales@bufferstock to correct my delivery address for their previous deal's HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini, received the USFF on Friday morning well packed in a neat box.

Ah Lenovo laptops. Like the toyota corolla/camry of laptops.
bulky, heavy, bland, and basic, not the cheapest, not the most expensive, No state of the art features…..but oh boy you know what you're getting and you know it will never die.

I still have a lenovo laptop from 2004 running an engraver.

    • +3

They're a brick built unit, that's for sure. My kids had lenovo laptops for school (just cheapo ones to get them through… Don't need fancy for school) and they are still working after nearly 8years of abuse lol. Dropped, stepped on, you name it lol.

      • aha exactly, like the toyota of laptops

T480S I bought a while ago arrived with a busted HDMI port. To their credit Bufferstock were willing to repair or replace, but ignored my request for a partial refund which I preferred since the issue wasn't worth stuffing around with returns, setting up again or taking the risk any replacement might have a bigger issue.

A token refund for not being "Grade A, 100% tested/functional" as advertised seemed like a good fair option for everyone so it's disappointing Bufferstock didn't agree.

    • +2

To their credit Bufferstock were willing to repair or replace, but ignored my request for a partial refund

Interesting. So they offered to repair or replace, but you were still not happy and negged the deal?

I agree that "100% tested/functional" is misleading, but such things happen. Would Lenovo offer a partial refund if you purchased a brand new laptop from them, with a busted HDMI port?

      • +3

I agree that "100% tested/functional" is misleading, but such things happen.

The port was physically broken, easy to see by eye, and I reckon impossible to test without noticing and very unlikely to have occurred after testing. There's a few different conclusions you can draw from that and they're all pretty damning for the seller, so combined with poor communication and an unwillingness to be flexible with the resolution to reduce inconvenience for the buyer it's a neg for me. Good laptop and decent enough price but not worth the risk.

  • 12GB? How weird. Just put a second 8g Dimm in there for Pete’s sake

    • +1

      possibly 8+4

    • +5

The original 4GB is soldered. Only one SoDIMM slot.

      • +1

The ones I got from them is 8gb soldered . 4gb removable.

  • Keen on some feedback on this laptop vs the T495s, purchased T495s from lasts weeks deal, unit takes 2 days to ship after the order has been placed, - will provide an update once I have tried the laptop tonight.

    • T495s is slightly newer, might have slightly better specs, but I believe the RAM is all soldered, and has less upgradability. ThinkPad subreddit absolutely loves the T480s.

But really, if you've got 16 GB of ram already, the T495s will be wonderful.

Metrocom have what looks like a good deal (1 reaming at $299) on the ThinkPad L15 (Ryzen):
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256265496793

Already having had the Intel and Ryzen based 14" ThinkPads, figured the 15 would be worth a try too.

    • Wow, those are a great price. No idea about 4 series battery life, but vega 6 is a huge improvement compared to most Intel UHD.

  • wow missed out… these are great, runs latest and greatest Windows 11, Good stuff

  • Fired up the T495s - battery life is ~2 hours and 30 mins, I am worried about this.
