Bonza has launched a sale today giving 20% off over 300,000 flights across November to to March*. The sale is aimed at making it more affordable for the many to explore their own backyard either side of the Christmas peak. Travellers can book now on the Fly Bonza app using promo code TAKEOFF20 until Monday 23 October.

“Christmas financial pressures alongside rising fuel costs could make travelling at home out of reach for many. That’s why we’re offering 20% off over 300,000 flights in travel dates ranging from mid-November to the end of March. It’s all part of Bonza’s commitment to make air travel affordable for the many, not the few ,” said Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza.

All of Bonza’s 38 routes to 21 destinations are included in the sale with travel periods 10 November to 13 December 2023, 16 January - 6 March 2024, 13 March to 27 March 2024.

“Savvy travellers wanting to grab a deal can get 20% off if they book on the app before Monday. Sale dates include the tail end of the summer school holidays including the long weekend starting 26 January,” added Jordan.

Bonza is preparing to launch its Gold Coast base on 15 November where it will operate 14 routes to existing and new destinations such as Darwin, Mount Isa and Launceston. On 29 November, the airline will get wheels up for the first time to Darwin from its home base at Sunshine Coast Airport and on 12 December, Bonza will commence flights between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Alice Springs.

Still surprised that you can't search and book through their website, surely losing a lot of business. Most people can't be bothered downloading an app just to search for flights.

I had no idea you couldn't search on their website.

      Thanks for the info…

I'm having trouble installing the app on my Nokia 225

      Any advice?

I was living abroad when they launched, they also blocked their app from being downloaded on any store outside of Australia (on Google anyway). A very bizarre way to launch an airline. It seems to be working for them but, like you said, I feel like they'd be getting more business if you could book online.

    • With a 2.2 out of 5 rating for their app over 539 ratings on the Apple App Store.. 😂😂😂 Pass

Check out the permissions required from the app, copy pasted some notable items below -

      READ_CONTACTS

      read your contacts
      READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
read the contents of your shared storage
      READ_PHONE_STATE
      read phone status and identity
      RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
      run at startup
      RECORD_AUDIO
      record audio
      SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
This app can appear on top of other apps

On downloading from the app store and opening it i was prompted with a window saying they have a new update and to download - i hit no as it most likely is updating the app directly from their servers and bypassing google playstore and most likely installing further privacy invasive permissions.

Record audio, ability to appear on top of other apps, read your shared storage - i may be just a paranoid parrot but why does a flight booking app need such permissions. There's potential for it to ghost on top of say some other secure app you use and trick you into accepting downloads/payloads etc.

      I've already deleted the app.

  • Soon to hear: "oh look, the Aussie RyanAir"

    • They're actually pretty good for a LCC according to reviews. Who knows how long it will last when they start focusing more on profit rather than growth.

    • Except that the Ryanair philosophy of flying to secondary airports doesn't really work in Australia - hence why they've already started cutting poor performing routes, and opening up more flights from the major centres.

      • Have two distinct memories of secondary airports with RyanAir:

Flying out of Stockholm - on way to Arlanda, realised RyanAir didn't fly from there…Vasteras was MILES away.
Flying to Vienna, you land in a completely different country - in Bratislava, Slovakia! Really enjoyed that city tho.

        • Yep, it's wild what Ryanair classifies as an airport for a city, such as Beauvais-Tillé in France, 85km north of Paris but branded as "Paris-Beauvais" airport.

          • @Flying Ace: They don't "consider" it to be Paris Beauvais airport, that is its name…

            • @callum9999: I didn't say it's considered as, I said it's branded as…

              • @Flying Ace: No, you said Ryanair brands/classifies it. That's the name of the airport - not something Ryanair decided.

  • I've had Bonza cancel flights with less then 18 hours notice and not assist in alternative travel.
A refund doesn't cut it when you're away from home and have to pay $600 out of pocket to fly last minute on another airline.
    Never flying Bonza again.

    • What was the reason for cancellation? If it was out of their control like weather then they have no legal obligation and unfortunately a LCC isn't going to offer you something they don't have to. That's what travel insurance is for.
