    Vibrating Motor

I have owned one of these for most of this year and had no idea. I was sceptical but turns out it supports it on PS1 games.

Also this is a great deal, I've had my value for money out of it easily.

    • Wow I didn't realize it had this either. Are you getting it to work in PS1 games with the factory OS or have you installed GarlicOS?

      • +1

I've installed GarlicOS. Just loaded up Drill Dozer on GBA and it worked natively, no changes to settings needed. Haven't had luck with PS1 games yet though.

        • Thank you, I just gave this a try and it works for me too! 😊

    • Which games can I ask sorry. I've had it ages too and had no idea it can do that either :o

    • +1

Have you tried Front Mission 3 if it works? That’s the only games I couldn’t get it to work, just stuck in the now loading screen.

      • Just checked and it loads fine, using GarlicOS here.

        • Am using GarlicOS too. Might be something else causing the problem. Thanks!

      • I loved that game as a kid!

  • Good price. Got one.

I bought an Anberbic RG351v previously but it was DOA let's see what happens with this one.

  • +1

New to these retro handhelds, was just watching a YT review of it and it looks fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWLRWEooqd8

Is this a good deal at $65? Quick check on ozb seems to show this is an all time low?

    • +5

I'd say if you have any interest in this kind of device, this is the perfect entry point. Great value, will not disappoint if you have reasonable expectations of PS1 and below emulation, but not an enormous outlay if you find you aren't using it as much as planned.

    • +5

      Great deal at 65

  • +4

Bought one of these on a good deal as a gift for my sisters' partner and it was a great present.

I also own and use a Miyoo Mini Plus everyday, and whilst they both have their pros and cons, with the Miyoo having wifi, slightly better controls and to me a better feel in the hand (just feels more solid and less "rattly"), and the RG35XX has better rear buttons, RTC support and HDMI out. Basically whichever one is cheaper is the one I would buy, and at this price, that makes the RG35XX a no brainer if you want something compact and powerful enough to play up to and including PS1.

    • +1

miyoo has better software support but both aren't bad

  • Is there a similar product but with bigger screen, around 5".

    • +2

I just bought a Powkiddy x55. Bigger screen, better screen/control layout, wifi, can stream steam games to it as well. Around $150 at the moment but use some Aliexpress coupons to get it down a bit. Not really pocketable like the RG35XX though.

      • +2

Watched a few reviews on the x55 and they mention the controls are very very bad, lots of inaccurate movements in an otherwise amazing device

    • +1

For lower prices have a look at the Powkiddy X55, will be good for up to N64 (though maybe not all N64) on a 5.5" screen.

At higher price, Retroid Pocket 3+ or Flip have an iPhone 6 screen and will do up to some PS2 and GC games, or the Odin family, but we are talking very different price points.

    • +2

RG405m or RG505 depending if you play DS/PSP or not.

      • +1

        Which one for DS?

        • +4

Both of those devices have the same processor, just different screens, so performance would be the same, the larger screen of the 505 likely would suit squeezing two screens on better. However due to their unique screen configuration, as much as it is a less exciting prospect, original 3DS/DS hardware is the still the best bet.

        • +1

          RG505. It's wide screen.

  • Amazing price. Snap that up. I love my one.

  • Already own a miyoo mini+ but can’t resist getting this for the price.

  • +5

MinUI is amazing, highly recommend as an easy simple alternative to GarlicOS

    • +1

Yes, love it. Only negative is limited devices (eg. no mame)

  • It says it's not available in my location…

  • +2

Wow! Great price. I payed around 100 when it first launched last year. I love mine and would easily recommend it to anyone who loves retro games (especially retro handheld games). Just make sure you get the Garlic OS custom firmware installed on it - it’s easy, you just have to copy some files to your SD card.

Also throw out the SD card it comes with, the roms that come with it are weird and the SD cards have issues

    • Do you mean the ROMs are corrupted? If not, would it be ok to transfer them out to a good microSD?

      • +2

Best to just download new ones

      • i have rg351mp and some of the games were not english or glitchy (gunstar heroes comes to mind).

    • So what do we keep/transfer to the new SD card from the old one? Just the games? Sorry im new to this.

      • The roms are weird and glitchy. You can keep them but I recommend downloading fresh ones.

        • You can have multiple roms on the one SD card? So basically just transfer everything over to a new card and download GarlicOS etc. I'm thinking just having 1 good SD card rather than 2. Although I do have a spare good 32Gb lying around I can use for the roms.

  • Anyone use this with hdmi out? I got a 14inch portable monitor, that i got via ozbargain. :). That i want to play retro game on. Only want to do up to ps1 anyway so i don't need any more power. I'd obviously have to connect a wired controller up to this though? Anyone with experience at all in doing this?

    • +1

There's plenty of stand alone android devices you can run EmuElec on, might be a better way to go. Or run RetroPi on a Raspberry Pi. Has the benefit of bluetooth from a controller standpoint.

  • Thanks OP, picked one up.

  • These have the capability of saving right?

In that the general idea is you download the ROMs and put them on the device and then it emulates them and can make a save/backup file for each game as well?

I'm just contrasting it to some of the similar ones I've heard about with inbuilt games that don't save or are glitchy.

    • +3

Yeah you can manually save the game wherever you want, or on exit it quick saves so when you reload the game later it picks up where you left off.

      • thanks for that! 👍

  • Here's hoping it's genuine, never bought off aliexpress

    • +2

Enough positive reviews with photos that I'd say you are very safe. Aliexpress is basically the norm for these emulation devices.

    • +4

Aliexpress is legit. Its more like ebay. look for trusted sellers. Buy lots of things from Ali

      • I haven't used Aliexpress for many years and my memory of them tells me that things often take 2 months to arrive by post. Is this still the case or has it gotten better?

        • +1

Usually more like 2-3 weeks for most things.

        • +1

That's the free postage. iirc you can pay a bit extra for faster post.

        • +1

Some listings are with fast delivery (15 day guarantee) or upgraded to fast delivery with min spend of US$5 or 10.

I've been getting orders quicker than Amazon lately, 7 days, few up to 9. Amazon on the other hand, especially when they decide to use CouriersPlease, 12 days or more.. :/ (I'm in WA, but doesn't seem to be many of my orders stocked in the WA warehouse so always a long wait)

        • +1

way better now. Also its nice. You order a bunch of stuff and its like lil gifts every few days if you order a few items hahaha

    • +1

Just make sure you film yourself opening the package. Sometimes I will get cheap random stuff like plastic sunglasses instead of what I ordered. You can raise a dispute but they end up saying things like “oh we looked through the sellers entire store and they don’t sell plastic sunglasses so no way was this from them”.

  • Hows the gamepads on these? Can you move diagonally without issues?

    • +1

Watch the youTube video bit below and decide for yourself:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWLRWEooqd8&t=1513s

Also, the guide OP posted has info to mod it. YouTube video below… I just watched the first few seconds of it:

      https://youtu.be/-vl3qyifYJM

I don't own one so I don't know to be honest. People seem to feel it is too easy to trigger diagonal movement with that D-pad.

      • Legend! Look forward to watching these - sadly the deal has passed but I am sure there will be another ;)

    • +1

I bought one recently for a family member. No issues. They've been out for a while now so I think a lot of those issues were probably from a while ago.

  • +1

Would this run the old Amiga 500 rom's well, well being no lag.

  • +1

Weird timing, was just looking to grab one of these. For $64, can't go wrong.

  • Thanks, grabbed one, only purple left at that price.

  • What are people using with joysticks?

  • Fantastic price. I i hadnt already just ordered a Miyoo Mini + and a RGB30 I would have picked one of these RG35XX up.

Would love a deal on one of the RG353V or something a bit more powerful.

  • pity only the purple is available.

    • +4

thankfully purple is the best colour

    • +1

I didn't even consider the others tbh

  • Bought.for $79 from LITB. Still awaiting delivery

  • Are there any products like this that are good for DS?

    • +3

Buy any 3DS/ 2DS console from Facebook Marketplace/ Gumtree and mod it to play DS games.

      • interesting. thanks

      • Would it not make more sense to just buy a DSi if you were going to go the second hand route? Or is it easy to mod the 3DS?

        • It is extremely easy to softmod 3DS's. A not so computer savvy friend of mine was able to do it in about half an hour.

        • Get a DSi if you're looking at only DS games. The 3DS screen resolution is different to the DS and so you either get an imperfect picture if you upscale, or you get the dreaded black bars if you play at native DS resolution.

Plus it'll be a lot cheaper.

    • +2

Due to its dual screen nature, as well as the easy modability/flash card support of DS's/3DS's, an actual DS or 3DS is still the best bet, unless you want to go extreme and strap controllers onto a Microsoft Surface Duo.

      • Yeah I figured the DS might be a difficult one to emu hardware-wise. Thanks for the tip

        • See my comment below.

    • +1

No 3rd party retro handhelds replicate the experience of a DS, get a used DS instead.

If you're only playing only DS games then go for a DSI XL, it has the best screen for DS games due to the pixel alignment, IPS, large size.
If you don't mind it being a little blurry for DS games and also want to play 3DS games, get any of the XL models for the 3DS/ 2DS.

    • +1

DS is now on the RG35XX via MinUI and Garlic if you wanted to try it.

  • Grabbed one thank you

  • Why so cheap? It's only the purple one that is cheap. I would have preferred the OG Gameboy grey, but not at 4x the price :D

    • Grey was available at the time of posting.

      • Damn, grey and white are showing as $118.81USD now!

I grabbed a purple one anyway, not a fan of transparent cases, but it's like $62AUD delivered, can't complain

        • same here. Really wish it was OG grey.

  • +3

it shows pictures of red dead redemption 2 and FIFA 2020…man they were fun to play on the good old SNES, that console was really ahead of its time!

    • Yeah, with one physical D-Pad, there must be a virtual right analog stick to trigger dead eye in Red Dead Redemption 2.

  • +3

A recent update is that you can now play NDS games via the Drastic emulator on Garlic. The experience isnt perfect as you need to switch to touch pen mode to use the screen and have to constantly toggle between screens to see whats going on. But so far all games i tried runs smoothly so it is still an option

    • This is great news.. it sounds like it might be enough for my son to scratch his itch to try out Mario 64 DS (from my understanding it doesn't rely on the second screen for much).

Interested to hear your thoughts if you have the game handy?

      • There's also a port for Mario 64

      • +1

Super Mario 64 plays well. I havent progressed much but there appears to be some touch elements, so just be prepared to swap screens. The map is on the second screen so if you can also have dual screen on but everything looks smaller. I would suggest getting the port for Mario 64 instead if possible.

        • Apparently (hes watched a lot of Mario speed run videos) the Mario 64 DS has some significant differences from normal Mario 64, which he has already played elsewhere, so he wants to try the DS version in particular.

Thanks very much for the review.. I suspect this device will be sufficient for him to get a taste, hopefully it arrives in time for his birthday on the 4th!

  • Can these do moonlight streaming from PC?

    • No wifi on the RG35XX, so I would say no, unfortunately.

  • What do you use to copy the data of games off the device and put on your PC as back up? Any suggestions?

    • +1

Any micro SD card reader will do for that, that's what I used to set one up.

    • Check out the link to the guide posted by OP. balenaEtcher is mentioned in the guide. You can use that to clone (card reader needed obviously).

      • Thank you all 👌🏻
