  • That is one expensive bulb but looks fancy!

they have in-built wifi, unlike some other smart blubs that required a bridge
and they are much brighter than some other brands too

        wifi is common as muck

      • Not s good thing. Get beyond a few devices and wifi can be unresponsive, on many home routers.

      • Cheap smart bulbs all have wifi.
LIFX wifi has a history of reliability problems. Zigbee FTW.

Do they specify colour lumens for these? Their colours are bright, but 1200 lumen is only for white mode.

I suspect most issues are not actually the bulbs, but network. I had to switch to ubiquiti kit because the telstra kit could not handle the device count (80ish). Since then hardly an issue outside the occasional need to wake one up by flicking the switch off and on.

          • @Runkett: What does that mean?
The bulbs and/or app make assumptions about the wifi network that often do not hold.

Sure, if you buy a new high-end wifi router, it will help. Better to start with a Zigbee bridge though. I run multiple brands through a Hue Bridge, except for the LifX which connect direct to Home Assistant. LifX are great when they work.

            • @bargaino: More that most routers are made for a handful of devices, and its easy to exceed that count with smart devices. People then blame the lights because the router "worked before" but ignores an invisible limit being crossed where they become unstable.

    • got 8 and they are worth it

  • Whats the use-case for a "Clean" light? Kitchen?

I bought LIFX lightbulbs many years ago. Sometimes the internet would go down for maintenance or the area would be effected with an outage and all the bulbs would bug out and you would need to reconnect them onto the wifi again.

The Apple home support was poor back then so it was difficult to add them onto that too. In the end I just ended up using them as normal light bulbs. The very first bulb i bought about 7 years ago broke (Just using it as a normal lightbulb) one of the colours has malfunctioned so "warm" Lighting just becomes yellow. I must have lost one of the blue hues. They claim 20 years worth of use.

Ultimately it was a frustrating experience and I have since moved onto the Hue ecosystem. They are able to maintain a much better connection due to the bridge.

  • Can I use the night vision ones as normal coloured lights or are they specifically for night vision ?

    • Pretty sure it has the full colour spectrum. Plus the UV. uV is for night cameras and night lights not killing germs for my previous understanding.

      • +1

Full colour + Infrared, not UV.

  • Very frustrated with LIFX brand. My lightbulbs refused to connect to wifi. Wasted a lot of time and gave up.

  • For all the people saying that this is expensive, they’re in mind that this lightbulb also outputs in infrared.

From a quick read of the product page that means that this bulb can be used at night without showing any visible light, while still showing an invisible part of the spectrum that cameras will pick up. Which is great for night Monitoring cameras, etc.

So this lightbulb does a lot more than regular lightbulbs, hence the price. It might not be something that some people need, but there are some people that would find this to be a really useful product/feature.
