Interesting that only 650 passengers were overcharged (up to $1.85 each), but all public transport will be free on Friday as an apology to commuters, including trams, trains and buses.

One of the last things Premier McGowan did here in WA before he retired was institute free public transport on the first Sunday of every month. An absolutely cracking deal from a cracking Premier.
Probably will be wound back at the next election

Guess they need to make the people happy somehow.
That is an extremely weak link, trying to tie free public transport (as compensation for a system problem) with a referendum the following day.
They know who was charged extra but you have to contact Adelaide Metro if you were overcharged! Ridiculous.

It's nice and all but apparently it's at the expense of taxpayer money which kind of sucks.
I agree with you, but it will be at the expense of the taxpayer regardless if everyone uses public transport on that day. It will be the same amount of routes on bus, train, tram. Might as well use the freebie I guess.
Oh good I wasn’t going to travel that day but now I will travel all over the city to make the most of the deal.
Got some junk to move? Some containers to return to the recycling centre perhaps? Maybe make multiple trips!
