OP Thanks for posting I'll have a look.

  • Do Aldi stock extra bags/rolls all the time?

      • +4

I guess it's possible to vacuum seal that. After all they did it in The Martian.

        kinda gross but

      • +9

Not really off topic. No point buying something if you can’t replace the consumable.

        • Surely you can use generic brand bags

      • +2

I'd say it's very much on topic for a deal about an Aldi branded vacuum sealer.

    • +2

No. The vacuum sealers come up about once a year and always have the bags/rolls with them, and you'll see the bags/rolls by themselves maybe once or twice through the year randomly.

      • I regulaly see the rolls in Aldi through out the year.

    • No. Kmart does though.

      • -3

Do they also sell the sealer?

        • And seal the seller

        • Why don't you look at Kmart?

          • @pformag:

Why don't you look at Kmart?

I might have a look if I go on the weekend.

    • You usually see them a couple of times a year.

Multiple other sources in any event.

    • I bought one of these ages ago and love it. The only place I can find local that has bags/rolls is Anaconda, otherwise order them online.

I find the rolls are better than the bags, as you can make them the right size.

  • Got this one a couple of years back. Does the job, but unless they've updated it there is no easy-slide cutter (can't see anything in the photo either, but could be an old image they used). No power cord storage for that matter either.

    • There was a slightly more expensive version called Ambiano Pro in the past that is slightly larger, has internal cavity to hold a roll and easy-slide cutter in it

      • I have that version and it is awesome. Internal storage for roll, slide cutter, removable liquid tray, wet mode. Best vacuum sealer I have ever used.

        • Damn, my vacuum sealer is shit by comparison lol

      • Yeh I think they've copy pasted the description from that one

    • +4

What about in the description where it says -

      • No need for scissors with the easy-slide cutter
      • Power cord storage, easy lock and unlock side latches
      • Yeh that's my point, don't think the description is right. It's a nice compact sealer but might not be perfect if you use rolls. Then again could be updated, just check in store if those are features you are looking for.

For me it's great as I don't use rolls, just seal and vacuum where possible things in their original packaging so smaller was better.

      • Looking again, the dimensions are also wrong and there is no adjustable sealing time on this model.
Seems they've used the description for their $60 sealer so you can bold it all you like but it wont make it true :D

  • I got the Inkbird model, does anyone know if the bags work with Inkbird?

    • Description on the rolls doesn't say width, they may be too wide for the Inkbird (assuming VS01) as it only takes up to around 23cm maybe 24cm. Would have to see in-store. Otherwise eBay for compatible rolls

      • Thanks for the insight mate!

        • Sorry, I was wrong and mixed up. See below

      • +1

(assuming VS01) as it only takes up to around 23cm maybe 24cm

        Not correct:
"INKBIRD INK-VS01 can customize our desired bags with its built-in cutter easily. It fits up to 12'' width sealer bags and rolls."

Another OzB User recommends these 28cm wide bags for the Inkbird VS01 - https://www.pacfood.com.au/product/embossed-micro-channel-ro…

        • I stand corrected! Sorry for wrong info. I measured mine based on the recess in the back bit. Good to know you can put roll either side of that and it still works

          • +1

@hen dawg: The recess/moat is for fluid spillage.

      • Anyone know what is the width and length for the Aldi roll?

        • Can confirm each box comes with 2x 5m rolls. 28cm wide

    • I use 28cm wide rolls with my inkbird

    • Yep same, can use up to 28cm on Inkbird vs01

  • Is it safe to vaccum seal food, I've read there is a chance food can be contaminated by botulism or other pathogenic bacteria. Has anyone had issues?

    https://nchfp.uga.edu/publications/uga/vacuum_packaging.html…

    • +1

I do a lot of sous videing with vacuum sealed meat. No botulism here yet.

    • Surely no greater chance than using zip loc bags.

    • +1

If we had issues with botulism, we'd probably be dead haha.

Cook the food in the bag at the right temps. Stay safe

    • I don't think it's inherently more risky than any other kitchen storage method. Botulism usually arises due to poor food production methods (problems at a factory or packaging/canning facility) or people introducing it themselves (not cleaning hands and prep area's before cooking). I think the standard for killing botulism is 80c for 20 min?
I use vacuum sealing to marinade and store butterflied chickens and other meats, works very well.

    • Standard food rules apply ie you cant just seal up say raw meat and expect it to last forever.

But most harmful bacteria will put out gasses as they feed, so the bag will inflate like a ballon which should be pretty noticable

  • +2

Never used one before, and never noticed they sell both bags and rolls.
Rolls are just a long tube, right? - so I can effectively make bags any length I want?
What is the advantage of individual bags?

    • +2

Exactly the opposite to roll, you don't need to cut it to size but it's also less flexible as you can't store things larger than the bag.

  • +2

I started my sealing journey with Aldi and it is a great value start (the alternative is an Inkbird deal).

My last sealer costs me just under $1K.

Sealing will also open the world of sous vide.

    • Which chamber sealer did you get?

  • The bags are fine, but I would caution against the vacuum sealer itself. Ours had a bit of moist from the meat leaked in and fried the circuit.

  • Does this one have an accessory tube link the inkbird?

  • Is this a good price for vacuum bags and rolls? To use with my Inkbird

  • Does this come with any bags or rolls? The Inkbird is a starter kit, so it’s bundled with some consumables.

  • +1

Bags are usually cheaper on eBay.

  • I found this vac seal to be absolute garbage. Worked a couple of months but then I needed to forcibly press both sides down in order for it to vac properly and then seal without letting air back in. The same happened to my mates. He has gone the similar Kings model which is working fine. I switched back to Foodsaver.

Definitely grab the bags and rolls though.

    Maybe you’ll get lucky.

    • It was still under warranty after a couple of months so did you take it back?

If it's within 60 days you can return it for a refund under their satisfaction guarantee.

    • Found the same about having to press sides down to vac seal properly - also did double sealing to ensure it is air tight; but still super handy to have! Butcher sells great meat near us; but their sealing sucks; they sell in bulk and meat expires super quick.
Been able to get a lot more time out of those has saved the cost of the item few times over.

    • It happened to mine after I tried to put away some cinnamon powder, it got everywhere. After cleaning it was better. Maybe investigate what’s blocking the seal.

  • I’ve got one of these to vacuum seal my coffee beans that I buy in bulk when they are on sale.
    Works great.

  • I really want the anova vac sealer pro. It was on sale for $160 a few months ago but I hesitated and missed it. Sadly $200 at the moment after 20% off coupon

    • What's so good about that one?

  • Which is better value? bags or rolls?

  • +1

    why people use this?

this is just more plastic to go into landfill

    • You don't have to use the plastic rolls/bags.

I use it to seal/vac stuff in it's original packaging.
