I wouldn't if you're using them for sous vide, but technically yes, you could reuse them. Just be aware that each time you cut the end off the bag to open it, you're obviously reducing the sealable area to put food in.
Looks like a heat seal, so the bag is melted closed. So probably not.
a technical yes but depends on what you're using them for.. if just storage I don't see why not. Only thing is it'll gradually get smaller as you cut below the seal each time.
Good question. I’m curious to know as well.
I did a google and found this.
Excerpt:
You can generally reuse sous vide bags that have been previously used for fruits, vegetables, and sauces, but do not reuse sous vide bags that have been used to hold raw meat, fish, or eggs. That’s the most straightforward answer, but there are a lot of factors to consider.
Yeah, I reuse my bags. no worries.
They're also great for fresh produce, if you're a gardener and have big harvests. Many things will keep for months sealed in the fridge.
I'll store cheese that I don't use regularly in them, stuff like Gruyere. I'll slice open the bag, cut off however much I need for what I'm cooking then throw the rest back in the bag and reseal it.
aw nom yeah. Gruyere would never last long enough to warrant that chez moi.
Does it really make a difference?
I currently use food bags and put for instance meat in the freezer. While it shows sign of ice likely because of the air trapped/humidity inside the bag, I don't seem to get any freezer burn.
If you're using frozen food within a few months, it's probably not for you. But if you want to significantly increase the amount of time you can store things in the freezer without visual and textual degradation, then this is the way.
For long-term storage, yes. For sous vide, yes. Should every kitchen have one? No.
Can I use this to reseal foil chip bags?
No, it heats and melts the plastic to seal so wouldn't work on foil bags
You do realise that's how chip bags are sealed right?
I do this all the time with chips and bags of pasta. Works great.
Oh wow. Thanks for the tip
which type of bags does this use?
Vacuum sealer bags
any type of VS bag could be used?
How does this compare to Aldi $39.99.
I meal prep meals and vacuum seal them in a reusable bowl with sealer bag over this.
I also vacuum seal meals and soups ,flat packed ,(without bowl) that I take away for powered camping as they take up hardly any room . Can also vacuum seal meals and then store in the fridge and they last about 3x as long if not sealed.
Also recommend vacuum sealing your fresh coffee beans when you open the large bag.
Cheese also lasts much longer sealed. Plus you cut off the end , eat what you want and reseal the bag.
Can you show a picture of what you mean by reusable bowl + sealer bag?
I put cooked meal in a hard plastic bowl https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brilliant-basics-4-pack-bowl…
Then I slide this into a vacuum seal bag , then vacuum seal it.
Can microwave food and eat straight from bowl. Can stack these bowls on-top of each other in the freezer. I use a marker pen to write what it is and date them.
Got the idea of it from muscle chef meals as they are vacuum sealed inside a bowl.
Makes it much easier to put cooked meals in bag.
Cheers, that makes sense now.
Bought, thanks OP.
Anyone have a particular brand of bag they like to use with these, or do you find the first party bags priced reasonably enough?
Woolworths seems to have Advwin Vacuum Sealer Bags 2 Rolls 20500cm/28500cm for $11.99 (usually $29.99) this week. I have no idea if it is good or not though.
These are also great for camping. Good for raw meat but we'll also often vacuum seal and freeze a cooked lamb stew or some sort of braise to take camping. It packs so nice and flat in the Waeco and a super easy meat to heat and eat.
Not sure what the battery is like on these, but vac sealers in general are great for fishing too. I got a different one with a 12V adapter so I can clean/fillet my catch and vac seal it straight away.
all gone?
probably dumb question. i can wash and reuse the included sealing bags right? or will I need to keep buying refills?
