Make sure to check if you need a subscription to run this thing. Anova have decided to monetise access to their site.

    • came to say exactly the same thing. they're naughty boys & girls, I wouldn't deal it

    • This doesn't require an app, nor an account, for it to work.

I do get your point (or pun) though.

    • Haha, true.

Good sealer. Crappy decisions by Electrolux.

I bought one about 2 years ago and have been loving it. Super handy for meal prepping, and compacting things to store in the freezer!

Only downside is that spare parts can be hard to come by. I tried sealing a bag of milk (note to self: never attempt this again), and it spilled into every nook and cranny - including the sealing part. Because it seems impossible to fully pull apart the heating element without making it hard to put back together again, there's still a slight lingering hint of old milk that hangs around when I start pumping through many seals one after another as the element heats up.

When used carefully, this thing is great.

    • Because it seems impossible to fully pull apart the heating element without making it hard to put back together again,

Not sure if I understand this correctly, but my unit fell off a washing machine once (wifey did her laundry and unit kept sliding during the rinse cycle). The heating element got detached, and I just had to slip it back in. And yes, the unit still works thankfully.

      • Ah yes, that is correct - the element as a whole can be detached from the device itself, but the electrical heating part doesn't look like it can be seperated from the metal bar it is attached to unfortunately.

If you need parts I would check the following:

This sealer looks very very similar to Avid Armor USV20 which is sold in US - very similar body and identical chamber but different controls. I can't confirm if it is from the same OEM manufacturer but it is possible.

Also there is another brand available here - Pro-Line Australia which got models very similar to Avid Armor but for AU voltage.

If you find a Pro-Line model matching Avona Chamber Sealer (by comparing specs I guess) you might have a shot - Pro-Line is selling part via their website.

I would check Aliexpress too because we all know what country is manufacturing these units. :)

No links but everything is easily searchable online.

I'll definitely look into that - thanks heaps for the info!

  • What are the advantage of this type vs the roll type?

    • Takes up more kitchen space is certainly a downside.

    • Pros:

      • you can seal liquids or anything "very wet"
      • you can use it to "infuse" things or "dry" things
      • plain plastic bags supposed to be cheaper
      • you can show your kids "warm water boiling" trick (aka science)

      Cons:

      • takes more bench space
      • you are limited by the size of the chamber (although you can still use "corrugated" roll and seal "externally")
    • I guess another downside is the fact that you will have to use fixed sided bags.

With my non chamber vac sealer, im able to cut half sizes from the rolls and custom size my bags by cutting and sealing the edges. Anyone have any tricks for how to do that with a chamber vac sealer?

  • Thankfully it is fully operational as stated in the description.

Wouldnt want to buy anything that isnt.

  • Any recommendations for where to get cheap plastic bags for chamber vac? No need for sou vide safe bags as i have those already.
