15,000 Velocity Points When You Take Out a Pet Insurance Policy (Min $200 p.a.) and Hold It for 90 Days @ Medibank

360
VELOCITYPET

Even if you don't need pet insurance, this could be a cheap way of buying 15,000 Velocity points for as little as ~$50.

To receive the 15,000 Velocity points, you need to take out any pet insurance policy with an annualised premium of $200 or more (after any discounts) and hold it for 90 days. Points are then awarded within 10 days. The PDS states that you can receive a pro rata refund if you cancel an annual policy early so after the refund the total cost of the 15,000 points should be about $50-55.

Alternatively, you can pay by monthly or fortnightly instalments but this is slightly more expensive than paying annually so it would work out to be around $60-70 for the 15,000 points.

Offer starts 12.01am AEST 30 August 2023 and ends 11.59pm AEDT on 29 February 2024 (Promotion Period). Available to new Medibank Pet Insurance customers who are a current member of the Velocity Frequent Flyer program (Velocity member). Offer not valid for Velocity members' existing Medibank Pet Insurance Policies, or those who have held Medibank Pet Insurance in the last 12 months. Must purchase a new, eligible policy during the Promotion Period with a minimum annualised premium of $200 (post any discounts being applied). Must use promo code VELOCITYPET and enter their valid Velocity member number at the time of taking out the policy during the Promotion Period. Must hold the same eligible product for 90 continuous days from the purchase date and the policy must be active, not suspended or in arrears for Velocity points to be awarded. Velocity membership, Points and redemption are subject to the Velocity member Terms and Conditions, as amended from time to time. Offer subject to the terms and conditions of the Medibank Pet Insurance policy.

If the eligibility criteria is met, Velocity Points will be issued based on the Medibank Pet Insurance cover level purchased during the Promotion Period listed as follows:

  • 15,000 Points for Medibank Pet Protect Pet Insurance

  • 15,000 Points for Medibank Pet Plus Pet Insurance

  • 15,000 Points for Medibank Pet Max Pet Insurance

Please allow an additional 10 business days after the 90-day holding period for Velocity Points to be awarded. Not valid with any other pet insurance offer (including but not limited to the Medibank and ahm employee discounts), except for the following:

  • Velocity Members who take out two or more Medibank Pet Insurance policies are eligible for a 5% discount on the premium for their second policy and each subsequent policy (see full terms and conditions below for the multi-pet discount).

  • Velocity Members who currently hold a Medibank or ahm Health Insurance Policy are eligible for a 10% discount on Medibank Pet Insurance premiums. Those Medibank and ahm health members (who are also Velocity Members) who wish to activate this discount must provide accurate membership details: (a) at point of purchase for the discount to apply; or (b) prior to renewal for the discount to apply at renewal.

Medibank Pet Insurance reserves the right to withdraw, vary or extend this Offer at any time, without notice.

or a $100 gift card, you're looking at 18,000 to 21,800 Velocity Points, valuing each point at 0.55c to 0.45c each.

The precise number of points required depends on the specific gift card you're buying, with the most flexible cards – namely 'Coles Group & Myer' and Westfield gift cards – costing more points than others.

  • What's the cheapest pet/policy for 90 days?

    • I can get domestic cat for $214 - if anyone can get closer to $200 let me know ;)

      • +2

        $201.07 – Domestic house cat cross, DOB 01/01/2023, female, non-desexed, postcode 2601.

Desexed is cheaper but if I choose that the premium goes under $200. Your postcode seems to make a big difference with the cities having higher premiums.

  • Do you have to prove that you actually own a pet?

Only when you make a claim ;-)

      • What's the cheapest breed you have found so far? So far cheapest I have found is a cat - female desexed British shorthair is coming up as 269.85 a year

  • Do you get 15k per policy? And if so what’s the max amount of policies you can get and receive points?

Per the FAQ on the offer page:

What happens if I purchase two policies for both my pets in the same transaction?

This creates two policies, one for each of your pets. Provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you can earn Points on both policies. See FAQ “How many Points can I earn on my Medibank Pet Insurance Policy?”

Nice. Wonder what the limit is? I have 26 cats ;)

      • Yeah, it's good value.

          • +1

@digitalane: Yes, I did. There was 5% off on the second one.

            • @web50: Ok. And assume both must be over 200

              • @digitalane: That's correct.

                • @web50: Nice - I have found a way for policy 1 at 210 and policy 2 a few cents over 200! :)

                  • @digitalane: Don't mention it publicly here, or you risk getting your policies cancelled.

    30k points in 90 days for $100?

  • +2

Great thanks! Signed up for my actual pet..

  • Anyone else had trouble getting the payment to process? Does the credit card payment not work?

  • my cat's current policy ends in 4 weeks, offer can only be taken 2 weeks ahead it seems. Hopefully they continue the offer despite oversubscription of ozbargainers getting pet insurances for their family members…. lol

  • PetSure is the administer and they have asked for evidence of owning a pet such as a microchip/vet records. Apparently they are onto this. There is a clause in the PDS about a duty to not misrepresent which gives them right to cancel policies. Also apparently the terms actually limit to 1 policy in 12 months.

    • interesting…..

I wonder if they're doing this for every single policy?

    • I haven't heard anything from them regarding my pet cat. Are they only doing this for people with multiple policies?

    • did you get asked or was this a scare comment?

      • Ozbargain have somehow identified that account as belonging to medibank staff. So I guess it was a BS scare comment.

  • Has anyone been contacted by Petsure to validate proof of ownership?

  • +4

Received 15,000 points on day 92 (I signed up a week before I posted this deal). Total cost of $52.80 after refund.

    • Thanks! How did you cancel it, have to call?

      • +1

It was by calling, yes. They offered me three months free or something like that to entice me to stay but there wasn't much resistance and the whole thing took only a couple of minutes.

  • +1

Has anyone got 30k for 2 policies, as it was promised by FAQ?
Just got 15k today, even I have 2 policies >$16.67/mo each. I'll give it time till Monday probably…

    • +3

Got points for both my policies today

      • Did you open the policies separately, or both together?

        • +1

Separately, two policies with same owner details. 1 day between the sign ups.

    • @interlocal how did you go?

      • I called them and support person was really confused and never heard about any FF points, she thought I'm trying to claim $15000 and later asked me to email screenshots of a promo.
They responded via email "our system shows that points have been applied" and they cannot tell me if its 15k or 30k, so bit frustrating. I'll give it a couple more days and emails.

        • Good luck! Be interested to hear how you go

          • +3

@dfadkxk09: So after some time they acknowledged that it should be 30k instead of 15k and they escalating it to "dedicated team", whatever that means. That was 2 days ago, nothing is yet resolved.

          • +1

@dfadkxk09: just got a call with some bs explanation that I linked velocity nr just to one of two policies in transaction, so they asked me velocity nr again and promised 15k points would be added in 4 business days

            • +1

@interlocal: Same! I called them up and they said the same bs…. very dodgy with whatever they're trying to pull off here.

Edit: They even asked me which velocity points did I receive the 15k points on which policy. I was like "how would I know? I just saw the points went into my account under Medibank pet" … Quite a funny question to ask…

            • @interlocal: …and nothing happened, no points. I'm giving up and cancelling policies

  • +4

I have the same problem and they only gave me 15k for 2 pets. They emailed me after i spoke with them on the phone 2 days ago and said that 15k is for both pets. I replied and did not accept their response stating that the FAQ specifically stated points will be earned on each pet providing each pet met the criteria. That was this morning. Will let everyone know if i get the remaining 15k

  • Same problem here. Called them last week on Tuesday, guy escalated to "senior management team" and was told they will return call in 24-48 hours. Called them up on Friday, was told the same thing and take 3-4 days for an outcome. This is very dodgy. I think they're trying to purposely pro-long the membership as much as they can as they know people would cancel straight away.

  • I've emailed them chasing the points for the 2nd policy. They said points will be applied in 10 days.

    • Same happened to me - do they take long to respond?

  • Received my points this week!

    Quoted:

"Thank you for your recent enquiry into your Pet Insurance policy.

The policy for your pets Huihui and Xiaobai has the velocity promo. However, this offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer except a 5% discount for additional pets.

For your additional pet Xiaobai, he got a multipet discount of 5%. Kindly check this link for the Terms and Conditions on the Velocity Promo.

    medibank.com.au/pet-insurance/c/pet-insurance-velocity
You can save time and manage your policy online by using our secure Pet Portal to submit and view claims, catch up on payments, update details and more!"

They clearly do not read thru the terms as it is totally opposite, and they ignore me mention about the FAQs, and every time they use the automatic script to say please read the terms and condition, wtf, they should read it again carefully.

We should report to fair trading together. I don't care too much about 15k points, but what they promise is what they promise, they can't promise and say bullshit and not honour it

*******if you want to report them in fair trading, it only take 3 min*********
I have attached the link here: https://forms.consumer.vic.gov.au/gcf

and you can copy my description:

i have purchase 2 policy for my pets in the promotion here, https://www.medibank.com.au/pet-insurance/c/pet-insurance-ve…, and according to the terms and condition, I should get 2x 15000 points to my velocity account. as it clearly states in the FAQs:

"What happens if I purchase two policies for both my pets in the same transaction?"
"This creates two policies, one for each of your pets. Provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you can earn Points on both policies.

the medibank refused to give 2nd 15000 points and says: "Your first pet has the velocity points (15,000 points) however, the second pet has the multi-pet discount of 5%."

and in their terms, it clearly says the 5% discount do not conflict with this 15000 points promo too. tried to contact the medibank by email, and they refused to explain about the FAQs, and keep saying the above 5% discount invalid the 15000 point offer, which is clearly wrong as per the terms and condition. I want to report this as they are not honest and not honour their promise

    • They're literally contradicting themselves in one sentence following the other? Or am I reading it wrong?

Time to cancel and get out with my 15k points for maybe $120.

      • +1

yeah they reply like bot, and i said do not auto reply me, immediately reply: this is not auto reply lol

    • they did that to me too. I continue to press them as the terms and conditions stated that if the 2nd policy meets the requirements then you are entitled to the points. they eventually gave in, but after about 1 week of no points in my account, i emailed them again and they gave the excuse that my velocity number is not on the policy which is BS. they still havent given me the 2nd lot after i supplied them with the velocity number again

      • +1

same, but I got resolved by the phone call, the email team is no way to communicate, called and that staff said escalate, and they send me a email after the phone call, said they need 'investigate' and need my velocity number, now still nothing

        • they emailed me today saying the velocity team is still looking into the matter, in which i replied that the matter was bought to their attention on the 12 Jan and if nothing is resolved by 12 Feb, then i will report to consumer affairs. I will await their response.

  • +1

Just adding to the data points on this one:

    -Took out 2 x policies
    -Received 15k Velocity on 15 Jan 2024
-Called, and agent said give us 10 business days and we’ll call you back
-Received call today (early) and the agent stated that they didn’t have my Velocity number on file which is why the points haven’t landed (lol?)
-They have added my Velocity number to the policies and will follow up again on that 10th business day (Mon 29 Jan) to confirm the points.

    Weird way to do business…

    • They took my velocity nr again as well, and promised another 15k in 4 business days. Now, 10 days passed (8 business days) and no points.
However when i called to cancel policies, they gave me 3 months free extension.

    • +2

      Spoke to them again yesterday:
-No update, they're not sure what the issue is - have referred the case to the specialist Medibank Velocity team
-I asked which policy was credited the points, they are unable to tell me, only the Medibank Velocity team can answer that question
-They have said give us another 10 business days to resolve…

  • +4

They did all the above to me, and asked for my velocity number again as well saying that its not linked, i asked how they gave me the first 15k velocity points then?? its been 5 days since and no 2nd lot of 15k yet

    • +1

same case with me. no response after 11 business days and need to call them tomorrow

  • So best option is buy two policies separately?

  • called them to follow up on my second policy, medibank said it was pending and they would call me once they have received an update. no eta

think they are stalling and won't hear back from them for a while

  • Hmm they’ve stitched me up - i applied for 2 cats in separate transactions - both showed $202 when i checked out - but when i checked my credit card statement they charged me $192 for the second one! Which means won’t be eligible for the points - going to have to call and cancel the second one

  • In regard to this - I'm also getting a run-around from Medibank (who are continually useless) being passed from Supervisor to Supervisor and not receiving the 'promised' call-back.

Spoke to someone in Australia eventually and apparently it's a known issue not being paid out for 2 policies.

So it's a known issue they are obviously not in a hurry to fix.

I'd encourage a strongly worded email/call giving them a deadline and a follow up complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) should you not receive the points by the allocated date of 90 days + 10 Business Days as per the T&Cs

  • Anyone got their other 15K?

  • +4

After multiple run-arounds, phone calls, and emails with absolutely no resolution, I've lodged a complaint with AFCA for them to deal with this.

    • +1

      Last reply today:

Please note that it has been identified that there is a reporting issue between Medibank and Velocity where Multi-Pet Policies were not being identified, this has led to velocity points not being received. This is currently being investigated by a dedicated team. Though we won't be able to provide like a specific timeframe as to when the issue will be fixed, rest assured that we are doing our best to get this sorted the soonest time possible.

      Going AFCA route too.

      • +2

Yes, i am going to report them as well. T
hey have done 3 rounds of:

This is an update to let you know that your complaint for Sarah’s Medibank Pet Insurance policy remains under review with our Customer Service Team. We hope to resolve this for you soon and will provide you with an update within the next 10 business days.

I think if we all report them, Consumer Affairs/AFCA will be more inclined to investigate and they will be more pressured to pay out. right now, i doubt they will and just stalling…

  • +7

btw those crooks changed the wording on that page. Now it says:

What happens if I purchase two policies for both my pets in the same transaction?
"This creates two policies, one for each of your pets. Velocity Points only awarded on the first Medibank pet insurance policy purchased during the Promotion Period. See FAQ “How many Points can I earn on my Medibank Pet Insurance Policy?”
I have a screenshot of the wording before, https://imgur.com/a/ICCOqfn, if someone needs it for AFCA complaint.

  • +1

Second lot of 15k points have finally landed.

  • +1

They got my complaint from AFCA on 29 Feb, miles arrived 1 Mar.
    Coincidence? :)

  • i also received mine on 1st March. just before i was going to launch a complaint although i did threatened them i was going to do so

  • same for me received 2nd 15000 points on 1st march and a email today

  • +2

UPDATE: AFCA has resolved this. The second lot of points has landed, and policies from day 60 onwards will be pro-rata refunded — both policies have been cancelled. Wayyyy too hard for 30k points.
