    BEWARE

You must pay your premium for 6 weeks and maintain your policy for 6 weeks which will entitle you to have the date your policy is paid to extended by 6 weeks. HCF may take up to 6 weeks to process the extension.

Basically means 6 weeks paid to qualify, then they have the discretion to activate the 6 weeks free within 6 weeks of qualifying.

So you might end up paying for 12 weeks total before you get the 6 weeks free

    That’s pretty dodgy.

  • +1

Can get $400 Cashback from RAC if in WA, and same 6 weeks free.

    • $200 for single memberships

      • $100 for eligible singles with this deal!

        • Yes I'm referring to the RAC deal

Be ware of these croocks, I used to have a premium policy, the one that allowed for massage and dental (and other stuff) rebate.
The policy price increased constantly plus if I tried to have a massage, the masseur charged $40-50 more per hour because of the rebate with the private insurance.
I paid for a premium that I did not need nor I could benefit from.
Be ware of all insurance companies because they are legally scammers!

    • +5

Sounds like the massage place was dodgy if anything

      • +1

        the massage place was dodgy

Legit massage business (no happy ending), the scam is related to the rebate payment system (I forgot the name) whose I assume charges fees to the business.
I experienced the same scam with a few massage businesses so it wasn't an isolate case.

        • Must be good massages if you’re going to a few places.

          • @nightelves:

Must be good massages if you’re going to a few places

None of them after I understood the scam.

        • Sounds like widespread dodginess within the industry. I'm in allied health where private health is sometimes used, and it's absolutely not the case that there are any charges passed on to the business (if anything, administration time is less with private health compared to Medicare).

        • Insurance is so hard to find good provider. Who are you with now?

          • @Raj09:

            Who are you with now?

I stayed 5 years with Medibank and more than 20 with HCF, now I quit with these scammers (car insurance too) because we pay a policy based on what other members benefit from their insurance policy so the companies adapt their (corporate) rates based on what they spend.
I stayed in in private hospitals and not everything was OK but I can tell you that many public hospitals suck 100%!

        • Perhaps referring to HICAPS merchant fees? These fees are not dissimilar to other merchant fees charged by banks. I've had dentists complain about them charging higher fees for AmEx, but there's no reason it should be significantly more (i.e. $40-50).

      @billadm

Unfortunately this is the norm for ALL private health providers.

Policies are 'indexed' every year…But somehow the claim amounts forget to get indexed.

As for the massage..yep..just go to any mall type massage place. A 30 min massage $40… a 30 min 'remedial massage' (which it needs to be for private health - $55).

Local were doing 'non private health' massages for 50% off. So I booked one of each. Same masseuse, same massage.

If I had to put my finger on it, the non private health doesn't have a paper trail, and they don't report it for tax purposes (dodgey). Alternatively, Private health bookings has an extra cost to them.

Either way, Private Health don't care and again, my claimable amounts ($32 for a massage - hasn't changed since 2014..yet the premium has doubled)

      • The prices increasing tremendously each year without increased claim limits was my issue too, especially experiencing effective wage cuts every year (less than inflation).

  • Sorry for oot, but i got signed up with them and been with hcf for years now. After comparing the price of the same level of policy (if i switch), the diff between current policy is cheaper than the same policy, even with hcf.
Thats what makes me didnt switch. Is that common? Dont normally existing customers pay 'loyalty tax' just like home loan…

I churn frequently. Always take up bronze hospital plus and highest extras. Each churn i get 4 to 8 weeks free.

Generally i only pay for 5 to 6 months and get the remainder as free signup bonus.

I churn to funds that renew limits either Jan or July so i can claim twice per year. Now that im aware of qld country fund, the limits renew on anniversary date and now i can claim 3 x per year.

You get no where with loyalty.

      • I looked at QLD country fund and they looked good bcuz the limits renew on anniversary date (ie the day you join!). Do they cover interstate (not just QLD)?

        • +1

Yep. I joined them in advance for nov.

      • Is this a good churn deal? (Since it may take 12weeks to apply)?

        • Nope. HCF is not a good churn deal.
I went with frank, one month after one month paid. After one month free with frank, then 6 weeks free with QLD country. Then ill be looking again mid december.

          • @easternculture: So confusing comparing offers. I'm with Teachers Health (Starter pack). Guess Bronze level + extras with Qld country equivalent…and a Free fishing shirt!!
Just call and switch (like say electricity provider)?

          • @easternculture: Thank you! I went with Frank as well!

  • HCF becareful, eventhough they are a cheeper option. Once I was not given free weeks until I contacted the customer care. Then i was denied a claim as my dental procedure involved more than 2 surfaces of the teeth.

  • I notice this deal doesn't offer the no 2 month waiting periods for extras. Is there any good deal on at the moment that also offers no waiting period?

  • Looking to switch and after recommendations for 6 weeks free. Any suggestions? Has anybody here used Australian unity

    • I just switched to them

      • With the $300 gift card, isn't this a better deal compared to only 6 weeks from Aus Unity?

        • thats for families. I always wanted to try AU so I am doing that now.
