Just cancelled my Westpac cc and need a non big 4 cc churn so good timing! The $214 all in AF is a bit of a turn off but still walk out with 70k points net I guess

    • If you plan to churn this card, Bank of Melbourne is one of the remaining banks to refund your annual fee.

      • pro-rata or full refund?

        • +1

I had the lower tier "Amplify Qantas Platinum" card for just under two months and got a full refund.

        • +1

I got a pro-rata refund after requesting on the phone.

      • has this been mentioned in their T&C?

    • double check if you will qualify if you have churned westpacc cc in last 12 months

      • Any specific reason for this concern? Westpac isn't mentioned in the t&cs but better be safe than sorry

        • as i know BOM comes under westpac. usually its mentioned in T&Cs if held card of the group

          • @JohnyEnglish: While BOM is part of Westpac Group, their CC scheme (Amplify Rewards) is different to Westpac's (Altitude). Amplify Rewards scheme is only shared between St George, BoM and Bank SA.

Offer not available if you’ve held a Bank of Melbourne, St.George or BankSA rewards card in the last 12 months.

Standard offer. Need to put full annual fee in title: $214 not $139.

  • don't apply bom credit card, they don't count in bill payments like bpay etc.

    • Nobody really does anymore? You can bpay bills via zip pay and then pay off the balance with CC

      • is there any fee with zip pay?

        • +1

No fees at all, used to be $2.50 fee now it's free

      • Is it confirmed that bpay via zip eligible spend for St. George card?

  • im a st george customer does that mean im an existing customer?

    • St George has the same offer

    • A call centre rep previously advised that St. George is exactly the same bank under the hood as BOM. It's just that in Vic they are BOM, in NSW they are St. George.

I have mortgages with BOM and a CC with St.G. Their banking apps are identical apart from the colours. In both my apps I can see all the detail for both institutions.

What that means for whether you could get this deal I am not sure.

  • Applied for this a couple weeks ago. If you've had accounts with BoM/StG in the past, your online banking account may still be active meaning you can get the existing customer discount without trying to create savings acocunts, etc. (mine was still open from 13 months ago!). Easy and quick applicaiton as always, but card took over a week ot arrive. Good news in comments RE: refund of fee, will definitely be trying that on in a couple months once points hit!

OP should mention you also get 2 x complimenary lounge passes with this card per 12 months by filling out a form.

Pro tip - BOM/StG can sometimes reject your application online for various, but dumb unknown reasons (even though another bank may accept it the following week).

Some have said going into a physical branch may provide better success in getting approved. I've never tried but just something i've been told before.

      This describes every single bank.

I feel it's unlikely that applying in branch would have higher probability of success, and it'd be impossible to know since you couldn't compare. It couldn't hurt but I doubt it would help.

A St George deal several years ago mandated applying in branch, which was the one and only time for me. Not sure why they required it that time.

  • NAB offering 120k QFF points for existing customers, same first year AF.

  • Has anybody just made an account and then applied for the CC? I cannot just make the account and then apply via their portal for some reason, as "not enough information as been collected"?

    • Had no issues doing this via St George (they have the same offer). I applied for the card after signing up for a transaction account yesterday.

  • Australian permanent resident only?

    • To ensure you don't rack up thousands in debt and flee overseas?

Points came in about 23 days after activating and reaching spend target on the card.

Activated on the 12/13th of October and points received today/yesterday.
