Who would possibly purchase non-polarised sunglasses?

Also, is sure deal a luxotica apprived reseller, I had a feeling only luxotica owned companies Sunglass Hut, OPSM etc were permitted to sell their gear. Seems dodgy.

    • all luxotica stuff is overpriced

"Who would possibly purchase non-polarised sunglasses?"

No comment on this deal but the answer to your question is; anyone who flies a plane.

What kind of neg is that?

Plenty of people purchase non-polarised sunglasses.

Secondly, grey imports. The sunglasses could be dodgy, but its dodgy-ness is not derived from whether they have been authorised by Luxottica.

  • My only Ray Ban sunnies cost $50 +/- exchange rate…
they lasted a few years, until the nose piece(s) fell off(!)
(The case hasn't changed a bit, from the photo…)

    Today, I don't consider $88 good value…
but I may be "price-biased" eg, by all the
free (or nearly so) offers of glasses
    with -prescription- lenses in them,
    from Canada, China, etc.

(Most of those offers seen here on OzB, of course!)

    I don't trust sure deal.

They won't refund for the massive fail of the $2 SIM card deal, and are imposing red tape and run arounds…

    • Oh you just reminded me and yea I got ripped with the $2 SIM card deal too :(

  • they dont look real.

  • I do not know about this company but I bought my aviators some 25 years ago or more and they are still in great condition all though I had the lens replaced once under the lifetime warranty they came with but even back then they cost me considerably more that the price on this deal. I don't think OPSM have them anymore and the last time I had the lenses replaced it was at Bausch and Lomb 9then over at North Ryde NSW) but they are not the Aussie distributor anymore either. Sorry a bit out of touch as 25 years on I wear prescription sunnies lol

    • Bausch and Lomb sold Ray Ban to Luxottica more than ten years ago, so it's not just an Aussie thing. I have prescription aviators which is a bit stupid of me because it means I have to carry my regular glasses everywhere. Should just get used to my contacts lol

      • Oh I have multi focal/polarized/ Super dark transition lenses so just one pair for me ad you can get the super dark transition with polarization at OPSM

        • I considered transition lenses but a normal frame doesn't offer the same face coverage as a pair of dedicated sunglasses.

See their last deal for reasons why you shouldn't buy from these guys:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/78136

    • 4 week delivery time (most knock-off Chinese sellers also say 4 weeks)
    • Only come in 1 size when the real things have multiple sizes
    • Rep claims they took the sunglasses to both Sunglasses Hut and OPSM to confirm they are authentic - Why would they even need to do this in the first place? Why don't they have an invoice or receipt from a reputable supplier/distributor?
    • Rep claimed they were authentic because they had an RB etching on the lens but multiple people including myself have bought fake pairs with the etching on the lens so their logic that this is the only way to determine a real pair from a fake is flawed.
    • Stock photos they use were taken by a Chinese seller
    • Rep originally had minimal details about the product that most legitimate sellers would know to include (no model number, no size info, no mention of lens type, etc)
  • so I have been bitten by SureDeal too so I think its a wise move to stay clear away from them as above

  • Why is this called a Aviator sunglasses?

    • US Pilots used to be issued with them.

  • I'd like new pair of Aviators as my old ones have a damaged frame but these days it seems impossible to tell genuine from fake and there is hardly any deterrent from the government from retailers lying to consumers with these things.

The supplier (www.bestchoice.com.au) only has an email address for contact which is another worry.

Luxotica should put a serial number on their glasses because the fakes have made purchasing a genuine product (even if grey imported) a lottery event. Makes we wonder how tempted genuine local retailers are to slip in some fakes among their genuine stock…

  • are there any ways to verify with certainty whether the shades are authentic?
