  • Good specs but no HDD unless you pay the extra $99.00

By that time + P/H you're almost buying TiVo

But more functional than a TiVo as you cant play many formats or even 3D on TiVo

      • If you think this is a tivo competitor then you don't understand a tivo.

I have a htpc with twin tuners, network and 5tb+ storage, and still use my tivo more. They are different beasts with some crossover in features.

By all means get this as an alternative to a wd Live box or cheap htpc, although not sure if it is better for the price, but it doesn't do what tivo does.

Looked at this last time they had. Looks he goods although It gets horrid reviews from practically all uses.
Here is a WP section on it.

  • WD live would be a better buy, significantly cheaper as well.

    • WD live doesn't have to TV tuners though.

  • If more than 3 people buy one of these I'll laugh myself to death

  • My $40 Mk802 Android HDMI stick can compete with this device ;)

  • Unless they've changed it's a Realtek 1186 chipset identical in every way to what you get in cheaper boxes. Software can be different but it's usually cosmetic only.

  • If this is expensive and buggy, Can anyone recommend a similar cheaper reliable device ie. Dual hd tuner with network and usb ability that it can save to and also play all types media from? Thanks.

There really is none, they can do one thing well (DVR or Media Player) but not the other.
I use a Beyonwiz as my DVR and it is great for that and a decent but not great media player.
It just can't handle MKVs over about 2GB, and it sucks at MP4s for some bizarre reason.

I ended up getting the WD TV Live Hub when DSE had that silly price clearance sale.

  • Have one of the older Xtreamer Sidewinder players, still happy with it, as it plays anything I throw @ it.
Main whinge is the remotes are rubbish too small, lost mine down a recliner for about a year, easily fixed with a logitech.
But also picked up a WDTV Live Hub recently price matched @ Officeworks with DSE clearance price haven't used that much as yet but wonder if the fan on it might annoy me, will have to wait & see.
Don't really think this one is any better than the WD unit though but that is only my opinion.

    • The Live Hub has a Fan????????
Haven't noticed it yet, at any point.
