    • Damn wish I'd thought of this

I'm confused, I go to the link in post and it's $39.00 but then there's a link to preorder the all new one which looks the same for $119?

    • That's the latest version. Hence much more expensive

    • all new one which looks the same

It's what's inside that matters. No different to an iPhone 11 and 15 "looking the same". Doesn't mean they are the same.

      • I get that but but the iPhone anology doesn't really apply - you can easily see the difference between the products by searching for the model number.

This product, the 'old' product and product for preorder are called the exact same thing.

Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Stream BINGE, Kayo Sports, Netflix, Prime Video
Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Stream BINGE, Kayo Sports, Netflix, Prime Video

        • This product:
Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Stream BINGE, Kayo Sports, Netflix, Prime Video

          The NEW product:
All-new Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Stream BINGE, Kayo Sports, Netflix, Prime Video

Looks like a different description to me.

Also, look at the remote. The buttons are in a different layout.

Also, I wasn't aware that iPhones had a model number printed on them? Whereas the model number of the Firestick is printed on the back.

install RetroArch on it and it will be a mini retro console :)

Can confirm. Super Mario 64 runs at 100% speed. Pair a bluetooth controller (I use my PS4 controller) and Robert's your mothers brother.

      • +2

        Robert's your mothers brother.

Took me a few seconds to translate that to 'Bob's your uncle' šŸ˜…

        • I couldn't even translate that far

    • Is it powerful enough to run decent CRT style shaders, or even megabezel shader?

  • Just waiting for fire tv cube to drop in price thatā€™s what I really want

  • Anyone had any experience with a "cracked" firestick?

    • +3

      Glue might help.

If you mean software ā€œcrackā€ to sideload apks, thatā€™s not a ā€œcrackā€ itā€™s literally an option you turn on in the settings.

      • With the third party software to give you access to other content, just after an opinion to see if it's worth it

        • +1

Boomers love their "cracked" firesticks haha

        • +1

No need to crack, just enable the option and load all the third party software you want, no crack required.
I have Stremio, NextTubeRed (Basically an Adblocker for YouTube), TVIMate (IPTV for FTA), everything else like Plex ect.. was loaded from the Play store.

Crap! Placed an order for one last week which is still in transit, I paid $47! Should I just place another order and return the first one when it arrives?

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

You could try asking them for a refund of the price difference. I just did that after I bought mine for $47 2 weeks ago.

      • Just bought 9 days ago!

Did you get the refund? Where did you contact them?

Looked in support> recent purchase > fitestick>better price else where> whwre it says "We do not offer post purchase adjustments for better prices found elsewhere."

        • Yeah the rep did agree to refund but they said the amount will be credited in 3-5 business days so will have to wait to see if it's successful. Took a screenshot of the chat convo just in case.

I came across that option too but if you scroll to the bottom of any page (on desktop) there's a "let us help you" section where you can select help > something else > contact us > and there it gives you the option to chat.

          • +1

@moneypenny23: I was told no discount refunds, that the only way is to return and reorder.
Which imo isnt worth the time for $20<.

Sent a msg of disappointment that a friend got the partial refund in same situation, they "checked with their lead" and said refund is approved.. lol just as I was about to close the chat.

I'm using this with Kodi and Real Debrid. I find 1080p sources are fine, but 4k files (say anything greater than 20gb) lags and stutters, particularly if you try do a skip or seek the whole thing becomes a mess. It's not my internet but the device. Anyone else find this?
I'm thinking Kodi is just a big resource hog and the Fire TV 4K isn't up for the challenge. Might need to upgrade to an Nvidia Shield…

    • Thanks for this information. I was considering this to replace my Mitvbox due to this lagging issue. Kodi takes a lot of resources, as it will keep maximum buffering to play the video and audio. In this case, maybe will skip this as looking to play 2160p sources. Tossing mini PC or another android tv box…

      • +1

Get a shield or wait for another sale on the firecube. The cube has similar processing power to the shield

Not worth RRP but when it's on sale it's great value.

      • Yes I can't say I'd recommend the Fire TV for Kodi 2160p streaming. It just doesn't work well, the hardware isn't up for the challenge.

    • +1

Try Stremio + Torrentio + Real Debrid if you can. Stremio is much lighter than Kodi. I use Kodi to watch sports only.

      • Might be worth looking into thanks. Does it provide a good UI?

        • Yes. Stremio has great UI already, it is like Kodi + Fen + nice-looking skins from the look point of view.

      • Which addon for sports?

        • Kodi + The Crew and/or Mad Titan Sports

    • Was having similar issues over WiFi even though i get great speeds. Bought the $29 Ethernet adapter last week and it runs beautifully now without any dramas.

      • Interesting can you link your adapter? I do have a Router right next to the TV I could link to with gigabit. Does it run files in 4K with the adapter? I would have thought the issue is with the actual CPU of the Fire TV 4K not being able to process the higher bitrate files or something, rather than the Wifi connection. Perhaps the Ethernet adapter takes some of the load off the Fire TV?

    • I use Stremio + Torentio + Debrid and don't have the issue, wonder if it's Kodi.

      • Must be kodi as it's too bloated for Fire TV 4K. I'll try your setup

        • Try the Kodi 709 POVico build. It is very lightweight, only 6 MB. See if this build runs fine.

          • @emperor: Thanks for the info I'll try it

          • @emperor: I tried 709 POVico and from my limited testing its much snappier. I was able to play 25-30gb 4k video with no stutter. Fingers crossed!

            • @cyrax83: After trying a few other builds, I found this build to be the lightest one, and it works great with RD. As an alternate, you can try Stremio too. And what I found from reading Reddit comments is that Walmart Onn 4k android box is the current best one (but not available in Australia). Also, a new version of Firestick was released yesterday and the configurations look better.

    • I use a Chromecast and can watch 4k movies fine. Tried cache clearing etc?

  • +1

Was tossing between this and Chromecast but at $39 delivered (I have prime), it's hard to say no. Thanks OP.

  • My Telstra Roku is still going strong and takes up external storage etc. Is it worth upgrading?

    • +2

I have both. this is so much faster than my Telstra roku.

    • This is faster, but you may be better off with a Cube.

  • i need a bedroom setup for projected onto ceiling with this media dongle and bluetooth speakers ..

  • For those that already have a firestick - what bluetooth keyboard and mouse do you guys use with this? It's a massive PITA trying to go on any apps and using the remote to input letters one by one!

  • I have issues with my hisense projector not detecting google chromecast tv 4k. Not sure which is a problem among them. Might try this as alternative.

    Exceptional value.
    This is the way!

  • Is there a reason to get this if you have a new lg smart tv?
Just wondering if there are extra features as it always seems that everyone is buying it even though everyone is buying smart tv's also

    • +1

apps on smart tv are slow.

    • The built in chromecast feature on my Samnsung TV (75 inch BU8000) is awful. Only connects 50% of the time. Tested on separate android and iphones and still hit or miss.

    • Yes, have a look at FireStickTricks website. The world is your oyster.

  • Thanks OP, got one.

  • Can you stream free to air on this?

  • I had been a long time FS user. I have three older FS max, all working great.

However I finished up returning the one I purchased on the recent $49 deal.

Two issues; it would intermittently drop the network connection. Only a reboot would achieve a reconnection.

The other, it would go to sleep at 20 minutes, irrespective of what was streaming or playing. There is a workaround through the Developer Options. But for the life of me I was unable to open that and eventually had to give up.

    Back it went.

    • Sounds like you had a faulty unit. Mine have all worked great. Got 2 for my mum's tvs and friends that didn't know this product even existed but needed it.

    • That's a concern.

Do you know what wifi your / the current FS Max runs - presumaby wifi 5, 6 or 6e? a,b,g,n,ac,ax?

Someone else mentioned that the imminent upgraded version will have wifi 6 - I wonder if your last unit's connectivity issues were resultant from your current wifi / router or drivers…

      • The house is on a well functioning mesh. Sadly our little town is on FTTN, although I do get full on 100mbps

The fire stick reported 92mbps internet.

The older FS work fine. The youngest is about 18 months since purchase.

  • Wow great price, thanks. Bought to replace my laggy Fire Stick Lite.

  • +3

While it has a lot of purposes I'd read this first as many popular Australian apps may withdraw from them very soon - check if it impacts on your or not:

    • +1

Wow, thanks for bringing this to light. It definitely seems like a massive cash grab and not worth the hassle. Australian FTV apps are actually excellent and not worth missing out on imo. Pay the extra - $40 and just get a Google TV.

    • Wow. Great link.

Iā€™ve been debating between a Google and Amazon ecosystem in recent weeks This article just made the decision for me.

Iā€™m glad I bought this two weeks ago šŸ„²šŸ«

If you have eBay plus you can get with 12$

  • Any idea if I can use this on TV and pair it with Rind doorbell and other ring cameras to see live view? Basically, can I use my tv screen as echo show with Fire stick?

  • I went to pick up a delivery and poof OOS…

It says there is no stock. Am I looking at the wrong place?

    • +1

      Right place, wrong time.

Sold out over 2 hours ago.

  • Whoops left it too late, didnā€™t actually think it was going to sell outā€¦

    • didnā€™t actually think it was going to sell outā€¦

Do you realise what site you're on mate? lol

  • Just a note about this. I ordered 2 at the $47 price (along with cashback deals etc) So was a bit disapointed I missed out on this deal. Contacted Amazon and with a bit of polite pushing via messaging they agreed to give me a refund of the difference, but ended up being credit, which was an appreciated gesture. Something to try if you are annoyed about the price drop.
