All claimed, last 5 mins 🙄

While these flew out the door in no time, would I be right to think that at this price, these would be an outstanding alternative to something like a rpi4 or an orange pi5?

    • +8

Pi isn't even in the same league

    • +2

no brainer at this price. Way more powerful and x86 goodness

    • +6

It all comes down to your use case. This will obviously be a lot faster, but it will also consume more power (about 4x as much as a Pi4) and it doesn't have the same onboard IO that you get with the SBCs. It's also physically a lot larger.

Really, the 2 aren't direct competition IMHO. They're different products designed for different purposes.

      • +7

Many people use Pis for purposes that would be better suited to an x86 system when they don't need to use the GPIO pins. Can run many workloads on one of these instead of having a number of Pis.

    • +3

The N100 boxes are more power efficient at idle so are the better comparison to the Pi4 and OrangePi 5, but performance wise, the Intel has a whole lot more computing capability than even the OrangePi 5.

  • +1

I would buy this and sell my Pi 4 kit for $120 immediately.

    • +1

It's actually well priced at the 229 pricepoint

      • Was just thinking exactly the same.

  • Another coupon came up and I grabbed it. Keep refreshing guys incase someone doesn't check out.

    • +1

That was the last one. Lightning deal ended after you checked out.

I was also trying to grab it, but you were faster :)

  • +6

Right before my eyes it's updated from $229 to $339

    • +3

      Magic

    • +1

Maybe somebody forgot to up the price before the coupon.

      • -1

        this exactly

  • +2

That ran out quick. There is a similar beelink mini PC (the S12) for similar price if you want alternatives. According to Amazon there is a deal starting on it in ~19 hours

  • got for 229. still a good deal.

    • +1

The 16GB RAM version is still available at $220, just refresh the page.

  • It's showing now "Apply $100 coupon" so, the price after discount is $239. Still a good price.

    • Nah, the Beelink S12 is better for the same price. ~20% higher benchmarks

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Beelink-MINI-S12-PC-Lake-N95-Proce…

      • the Beelink S12 is better for the same price.

Only $20 extra to go for the 16GB/500GB version of that Beelink. ($359 - $100 coupon = $259)

Possibly even cheaper tomorrow morning if the coupon is still active when the lightning deal starts

        • How do you know it'll be a lightning deal tomorrow?

          • +6

@AlexBargain: Amazon deals page filtered by Upcoming, Computers, $200 and above, 25% off or more

25% off would bring it down to $269.25

If the $100 coupon is still active when the lightning deal goes live then the final price would be $169.25 (or possibly even lower if the discount is higher than 25%)

            • @HomeAlone: So lightning deal on the beelink is $224.25

Not bad, but I don't need it..

  • +1

Is the use case for these things home automation or TV box? What else do you guys use it for?

    • TV box hooked up using teamviewer so I can control it from my phone, save a bunch on subscriptions. Not specifically this one but my mini PC can be used for emulation which I'll be setting up so it'll be a retro game console/media station

    • +3

Plex would be amazing on this. 12th gen intel quicksync covers a lot of the major codecs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video.

    • +9

      Some additional use cases:

      • Cheap family mini PC with Windows 11 Pro.
      • Retro gaming.
      • Try things out (linux).

There are some cost cutting bits on these N95 mini PCs:

      • el cheapo WiFi card (most likely 1T1R card with bluetooth 4 support)
      • PCIe gen 3 x1 NVMe m.2 SSD support
      • RAM and SSD are lottery
      • Some don't let you change the CPU TDP in BIOS

$130, it is a bargain. <= $200, you can consider. Over $200, make sure you really need one instead of pure FOMO.

  • Might be a silly Q- Can I attach this to a dodgy laptop and use this to run the LP? Asus LP,gorgeous 15'6" touchscreen brilliant sound..but something's wrong with the "insides". Too slow, wifi keeps dropping off. 6 years old, barely used.
    Thanks

    • +2

      No.

      • Thanks.

        • +2

Take it to a repair shop.
Get them to re-seat the CPU which might fix the performance issue.
Then wipe it and either re-install Windows, or put Linux on it.

          • @ESEMCE: Thanks,again,will give it a go:)

          • +2

@ESEMCE: 6 year laptop? Might be more economic to get a new one rather than sinking cost into repairs

Most likely laptop has a soldered CPU, reseating is not something that can be done most likely.

Wifi could be drivers or something physical.

I'd say wipe, reinstall Windows and see how you go. If no dice, get a new one.

            • @yoshi864: Thank you. Yes, I did search up reseating, costs showing up tad uneconomical.
I might have wiped it and reinstalled quite sometime ago, don't remember:).
But, yes, I might have to do just that. Only thing is, I have a feeling that it might be more physical, like the LP's innards might not have been fixed properly, which comes back to the conundrum of reseating lol.

              • @Dentpub: is it running on an ssd? does it have at 16gb ram?

          • @ESEMCE: how would reseating cpu fix wifi unless tis a known issue

            @Dentpub would be better off:

            1) removing the cooler
            2) use isopropyl alcohol to clean off the old thermal paste
            3) buying a $10 tube of thermal paste and repasting it
            4) if that doesnt improve thermals and general cpu issues, then its the wifi card
            5) look up the model number of the wifi card on ebay and find a cheap replacement
you can even upgrade to a faster better intel wifi module for less than 25 bucks
            6) reinstall windows

if that doesnt fix it, its probably motherboard or cpu soldering as you said. But those above steps costs tens of dollars, can be done DIY with a few tutorials and 1 screwdriver and a few screws

    • +3

Technically you can. You can find a HDMI to lcd connector on eBay or Aliexpress and hook it up. You have to find a compatible model. But I would much prefer spend the money buying a proper monitor, keyboard and speakers for this box.

    • +2

It's possible, but tricky. There's no 'just use this $5 cord and you can connect it right up' solution. Better to give it to someone who knows computers and ask them to run a diagnostic as it sounds very fixable. I wouldn't go "reseating cpu's" until I'd established there was a heat issue.

      • Thanks, outlander:)
Not much of a heating issue, gave another go last night, wifi works if I am sitting right next to the modem, but overall quite a slow machine.

        • +1

No problem. Happy to help, like a lot of people here, but 'running slow' is a bit too vague. There's too many possible causes.

To rule out heat, you'd use a program like Speedfan. It will tell you if the chips themselves are overheating. You can't tell just by touching the case or putting your hand over the fan. It's counterintuitive, but if it feels cold, that could in fact indicate that the heat is getting stuck inside the machine, forcing it to slow itself down to a crawl to protect itself.

Could also be the hard drive having problems, or ram that's bad, or power supply issues. Or it could all be software. Only way to know for sure is to try them one at a time.

        • sounds like it might be the wifi module being crap

open up the back and google the model number of the wifi module. you might see people commenting whether its a good/bad model

u can buy replacement intel cards for cheap and just swap them out

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Wireless-8265AC-8265NGW-Bluetooth-…

make sure you keep the antenaes in case the new ones dont come with it

  • Kamrui or Beelink - which one is better?

    • +1

Beelink but at near half the price the difference isn't big enough.

    • +2

Beelink is a "recognised" brand at least.

  • +1

Good for general office work? Excel etc?

  • +2

    Beelink SER6 MAX Ryzen 7 7735HS 4.75GHz Processor Mini Pc, 32G DDR5 RAM 500GB PCIe 4.0 Mini Gaming Pc, Integrate 12 Core 2200MHz Graphics Support 4K@60Hz, 1*DP/USB4.0/USB3.2/WiFi6 BT5.2

I know a different price point but with the extra $300 and the amazon lightning deal for a gaming PC capability @ $800 instead of $1300 seems a good deal

  • Weird locating of the output connectors having the VGA at the rear but all the power, HDMI, LAN on the side like that is poor design IMHO. Great price for what your getting but the unit needs a 'lot of space' compared to 'front (inputs) and rear (outputs)' design.

  • Looks like these Kamrui's are the same as the standard GK3 Plus
For those that don't mind paying ~$220 but for the 128GB. The seller also has the N100 for $20 more which I will probably grab myself.

      • CTONE
      • probably many others I've never come across?

Different names/brands, but all manufactured by Shenzhen CYX Industrial AFAIK.

  • I know you can work around it but VGA is abit meh

    • Its good enough for a 3rd monitor. This forms a perfect remote desktop workstation.

  • Damn missed it I'm waiting for delivery of the Beelink MINI-S12 Mini PC, 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake-N95 Processor (up to 3.40GHz) W11 Mini Computer, 16GB RAM 500GB SSD I got for 259 on Amazon.

  • Almost hit pay when I realised Bluetooth is only version 4.2. Disappointing. No sale.

    • TDP 28W not bad for i5. I hope it has a good heat dissipation
