Pretty good deal for these lights, thought $110 was good. Also the same price at Bunnings.

Could do the same smart lighting with a $20 LED string + a $15 smart powerpoint adapter…. Hue pricing is ridiculous

    • +4

I love my hue because I can sync it with all my lights and with a dimmer switch. Worth the money to me.

      • explain a bit more

    • +2

How do you change colours or brightness with smart home automation with that setup?

      • +2

look into WLED with an ESP32 board

        • If you are doing that, look at WS2812B LED strips, where each LED's colour can be set independently.

        • +1

Good suggestion but thats quite a lot more involved than the setup OP was talking about , and also doesn't support Google Home or Homekit (without additional hardware again like a Home assistant or Homebridge setup)

    • +7

Nah, ive tried all the cheap ones.. xiaomi, aldi, kmart, ebay ones with tuya smart controllers.. nothing beats the reliability, brightness and colour accuracy of philips. But yeah i agree with the pricing bit. This is a great price though.

      • I find the CRI on all these never come close to the CRI on the philips

    • +1

convenience and reliability of hue are worth paying for imo

    • +1

A smart powerpoint adapter will only turn the string on and off.. that's useful but in a completely different league.

    • +2

It says it works with Siri but I'm going to assume that means it works with Apple Shortcuts through the Tuya app and not true HomeKit. HomeKit certification, brand recognition, maybe white/colour accuracy probably makes up the $ difference.

    • +1

Thanks for this, will have a look in Aldi when they're out!

  • The color selection is pretty nice - can you get that with an LED string?

  • +2

whatever happened to that Jackie Chan dude that once posted LED lights strios like 4 times a day for a few years. Sure seemed like it anyway.

    • +1

Amazon Reps were out of control posting fake deals so the rules were changed.

      • +1

Good. Mind you, I did buy from him once. 🤣😢 Pretty cheap 5m strips if I recall correctly.

  • Description is incorrect, it’s not a starter kit (which would mean it includes a Hue Bridge).

    • where the description said this is a starter kit?

      • The title.

        • +1

'Philips Hue LightStrip Plus Dimmable LED Smart Light - Two Metre Base Kit (Compatible with Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant), White and Colour' Are you referring to 'Base Kit'?

        • Oh, you mean the title of this post

    • +3

      Fixed, apologies

  • +2

    COB led is best

  • How are these better than the nanoleaf light strips?

    • +1

More reliable. Nanoleaf can be flakey.

      • Strange. Similar price and my other nanoleaf stuff is rock solid. Just haven't tried the strip lights. Do you own both?

  • We dont have dedicated power point for such LED strips, so I am thinking about "Rechargeable Sensor Strip 1m" https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-23-… to add under bathroom cabinets.

Any feedback on this rechargeable-sensor-strip or any other recommendation?

  • Is better the strip or the smart light bar?

    • +1

Depends on ur use case I guess.. I’m getting them for hue sync with my pc (sync works for free with the app and no need to get a hdmi sync box etc) and I’ll be using it for sim racing (reactive ambient lighting)

      • +2

This is not the gradient so it can’t do effective ambient lighting.

        • Yeah I would def prefer Gradient one but its bit out of my price range, this strip will replace my single light bulb I'm currently using which provided sufficient room lightning changes - so will see how it goes anyway!
