New iPhones in a week btw.

    • In case you’ve been living under a rock.

      • +2

I just came from under the rock, hiding from the High Cost of Living (& possible cluster bombs/depleted uranium delivered by our US friends - fatal to us;)
Discovered that the new iPhone will be much higher class, finally catching up to USB-C >18y later, hopefully with 17.5x data speed unrestricted.
Unfortunately, you have to pay for the late change - they add unnecessary titanium frame to just significantly raise the price :( how many can afford to pay more for less?)
If the iPhone is more expensive, I will buy the better value Huawei Mate60 Pro 5G with satellite, learn Chinese & hide under the rock ;)

          r U OK?

        • -1

Woah, you really are a visionary.

        • Don’t worry mate, just scab some greasy used tin foil from your neighbors recycling bin and make a hat out of it and you’ll be fine.

        • USB C isn't even 10 years old…

          • @smartazz104: Sorry, Typo - too late to fix! >8y later. 11 years ago iPhone was a joke. I had Galaxy Note 1 when the size mattered & now iPhone survives on what was too big for Steve Jobs ;)

      Thanks Tim Apple.

      • +5

Your welcome. We think you’re going to love the new phones!

    • Same price right?

  • don't iPhones come with only one year warranty?

    • +2

      2 years in Aus

      • +9

Technically you could push it beyond that under consumer law

        • How does the consumer law work? I spent 2.5k on a laptop during covid and it broke down just a week ago, its literally like 2yrs since purchase, do i need to buy another warranty or am i able to get it fixed free of charge?

          • @Nunubuffs:

            • you can't buy a warranty after the thing is dead
            • can you get it sorted FOC - depends on what exactly the problem is (manufacturer or user or other fault), where you bought it, who the manufacturer is etc. There are no guarantees.
          • @Nunubuffs: Broke how? A part just died and isn't booting? Ask the retailer you bought it from and see where it goes from there.

            • @simontadaa: Motherboard just went kaput I believe. Laptop no longer turns on at all. Was well kept and had very little use.

              • +2

@Nunubuffs: Contact the first point of contact the retailer and push your ACL rights blah blah expected life of a laptop should be 3-4 years etc. If no luck try the Manufacturer if no luck go back to the retailer and say you will take them to small claims.

                • +1

                  @solidussnake: As above from solidussnake

The question you’ve got to ask is, should I be having to buy a laptop every 2.5 years?

How often is it used? Is it abused?

Like saying I shouldn’t have to buy a car every 2 years. But if I drive 500,000km a year then yeah, maybe I’d have to buy every 2 years.

There is not hard and fast rule about how long the consumer warranty is. I’ve found in the past if you’re reasonable then you’ll get a free repair.

Did it most recently on an $1800 Samsung tv. Broke after 3 years. Got in touch and they just treated it like a normal repair. I just said how I love the product, was a bit disappointed and want to be able to trust Samsung enough to buy again in the future.

@B Wat: Perfectly said mate, LG replaced my remote after 2.5yrs free of charge by contacting them and saying I spent $5k I think the remote should last longer. Companies in Aus are beginning to abide to ACL alot more these days

          • @Nunubuffs: When I was a genius at apple, we covered Macs for three years under consumer law if they were purchased in Australia, and free from liquid/accidental damage. Book an appointment and take it in. 🤞

            • @TallnTechy: Thanks all for the advice. Ill talk to the company and see what they can do.

  • The China situation may create higher levels of stock available :)))

    • what's going on in China?

      • +4

CCP has banned government employees from using iPhones. Apple stock has tanked by 6% or $300b

        • +2

          It's funny how 6% doesn't sound like much….. Until you realise it's $300B

American hegemony , what else !

  • This or Iphone 15?

    • +1

      find out next week

    • +7

      15 , USB-C

      • +5

        Ground breaking.

        • and pill shape, wow amazing :/ im on iphone 11 so lets see if the camera is a good improvement i might upgrade

          • +1

@Roe Jogan: At this point what else can you do to a phone besides incremental small improvements?

            • -1

              @illusion99: They have to improve.
Galaxy 23 Ultra is on 200MP 10x Optical zoom, 8K/30fps
Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ is great value if it goes out of China.
              Google Pixel 8 Pro
Many other Chinese phones are now ahead in camera optics (software can be upgraded).

              • @taki: A better camera is hardly ground breaking changes to a phone. Any completely new features that have not appeared in a phone before? And I’m not referring to just a better iteration of an existing function like more zoom on a camera. Eg when they first put camera on a phone or when phone first went completely touch screen

              • -1

@taki: The number one brand of phone has to improve? Regardless of how you feel about the iPhone it is already doing what it is supposed to do.

With features that everyday consumers don't care about. 4k is barely mainstream. There's a lot more to a camera than purely megapixels - this is a bit like measuring CPU performance by GHz, almost meaningless. A lot of consumers already prefer the images out of iPhones.

If customers cared about those features, they would jump ship, but they don't. Go figure.

                • @ihfree: @ihfree that's a dumb thing to say. Of course the #1 phone brand has to improve. Else what? Stay the same and get pushed out by its competitors? Like what Huawei, Nokia, and Sony did?

                  • @ilikeblue: TBC, they do but they need to respond to their customer base rather than the rantings of a self described tech visionary. As it is, the iPhone is still selling well and there isn't really demand for the features this user is suggesting. Something could come along and upset the market but I don't think it is camera, folding, USB 3 transfer speeds, etc.

Huawei got pushed out by restrictions otherwise I'm sure they would still be going well as a brand. Nokia failed to innovate despite having the opportunity. MS sadly failed to gain traction - their phone OS wasn't terrible but I don't think there was room for a third OS. Sony - not familiar with them.

Why is the iPhone 14 so scarce? Not the Pro, not the Plus, just the bog standard…

  • I have a code for $100 off if someone is interested - Redemption code: TSS150WFN74YHG7M Expires 09/12/2023

  • +2

Anyone keen to share their unused code? I need to buy a gift for my wife's husband as his iPhone 6s plus is not aging well. Thanks in advance.

    • +2

Unfortunately unique code is tied to the users account, possible sign up for eBay plus for one month ($4.99) & the code will show, not guaranteed though

    • 'my wife's husband' .. ha ha..
