[PC, Steam, PS4, PS5, XB1, XSX] Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box $90.78 (60% off) + Extra 50% off Upgrade @ App Stores

610

2K just announced a new digital bundle of all the Borderlands games + DLCs (excluding BL2 VR and Wonderlands) for an introductory launch price of $90.78 (which seems to be ending on September 15, regular price is $226.95) and an extra 50% off on PS/Xbox if you own previous games matching their "upgrade" criteria (it is not clear if this upgrade pricing is temporary or permanent). If you don't own all the games or DLCs, this may be the cheapest opportunity so far to complete the set - it's a bit complicated, but will try to break it down as simply as I can in this post:

Press release: https://newsroom-anz.2k.com/news/experience-the-saga-so-far-…
FAQ: https://borderlands.2k.com/faq/

Contents

  • Borderlands: GotY Edition
  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel)
  • Tales from the Borderlands
  • Borderlands 3
  • New Tales from the Borderlands
  • plus ALL DLCs for these games

i.e. the missing content from this bundle is: Borderlands 2 VR, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (Gearbox considers this to be a spin-off/separate franchise)

Upgrade Discount Explanation

Below I'll go over the official upgrade rules from the 2K ANZ press release, with explanations on how to maximize the discounts (hopefully people will comment if I've missed anything).

Steam

Steam - If you already own a digital copy of any Borderlands game within the Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box on Steam, you'll only pay for the content you don't already own. This will be reflected on the Steam Store page for Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box.

This one is straightforward - it is a "complete your collection" bundle, which means that the $88.03 launch promo price (as of the time of this post) will be reduced for each game in the collection that you currently own. The price you see on the bundle page when logged in is the price that you will pay (caveat: you cannot purchase this bundle as a gift, as far as I can tell):

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/33369/Borderlands_Coll…

Xbox (Upgrade)

Xbox - If you already own a digital copy of any Borderlands game within the Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One and want to complete your collection, the Microsoft Store automatically entitles you to a special $45.95 AUD price on this bundle.

This means that if you have a physical copy of a past game, you unfortunately will not be able to get the discount (but see below for an alternative). If you claimed Tales from the Borderlands (Ep1-5) from Xbox Games With Gold in November 2017, that would also count towards getting the upgrade discount. The discounted price should appear after you login and add the bundle to your cart:

https://www.xbox.com/en-au/games/store/borderlands-collectio…

Xbox (No Existing Game Price Hacking)

Edit: Method confirmed by DangerDave11. If you do not currently own any of the games in the bundle, you can buy a digital copy of 1 game (on sale) that is currently in the bundle to then trigger the 50% upgrade discount for a lower total price. The current cheapest options that I can see are:

The total for Pandora's Box with the upgrade would then be $16.19 + $45.95 = $62.14 (vs $90.78).

PlayStation (Upgrade)

PlayStation - If you already own a digital or physical copy of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition or Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for PlayStation®4, or a digital or physical copy of Borderlands 3 on PlayStation®5 or PlayStation®4, and want to complete your collection, you can access a special $45.95 AUD upgrade offer on Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box by launching one of these titles and following the in-game instructions.

To get the upgrade pricing, you cannot go directly to the PS Store - it is only offered as an in-game purchase link (i.e. you need to download the game, launch the game and click on the store link inside the game). Also, if you claimed Borderlands: The Handsome Collection from PS Plus in June 2019 and you have an active PS+ subscription, you should be able to download that and access the upgrade pricing.

The upgrade offer should also work for people that are not subscribed to PS+.

PlayStation (No Existing Game Price Hacking)

This is easier to hack than the Xbox upgrade because it also allows physical copies - you can borrow any of the upgrade-eligible games listed from a friend/buy a used copy, install and open the game and access the upgrade pricing from the link to the store there (the upgrade is not tied to the physical copy of the game - you will own full digital copies of the games in the collection after you buy it).

If you do not know anyone with a copy of the above games, you can buy 1 game in that list above (BL:GOTY, Handsome Collection, BL3) to become eligible for the discount. The cheapest option currently appears to be (and this is the way that I did it - bought this, downloaded and clicked the in-game box to upgrade, verified working):

The total for Pandora's Box with the upgrade would then be $13.99 + $45.95 = $59.94 (vs $90.78).

SHiFT Diamond/Golden Keys

There's also 1 Diamond Key and 3 Golden Keys redeemable via SHiFT codes until October 31st: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/797621

Great explanation of the pricing structure thanks 🙏

  • +1

It showed up as like $14 for me since I already had almost everything haha

  • Wow i didnt know there was BL2 in vr!

  • +9

Wow ultimate collection that still doesn't contain everything. Pretty silly.

    • +1

It doesn't contain everything? Is it only missing Tiny Tina's Wonderland standalone expansion?

      • -5

TT’s W was actually terrible. Such a poorly balanced game. The group that ran through BL2 and 3 got stuck not being able to progress coz we were under levelled and couldn’t defeat the easiest mobs on where we were up to. Is absolute ridiculous balancing. And the gameplay isn’t that great. I’d avoid this game.

        • This is the biggest skill issue I've heard in months lmao

I've beat the campaign solo on each character, cruising through while being either under levelled, or very under levelled on the stronger classes. I guess some people kind of suck at video games and then call them poorly balanced haha

I know plenty of others who are the same. It's even easier in coop, too

          • -3

            @DiscountForThee: Tips fedora

            • @Smol Cat: Honestly the complaint I hear more is that the game isn't hard enough and that the difficulty option is a joke. Combined with no TVHM makes people (who aren't playing with guitar hero controllers) wish there was more of a challenge

              • @DiscountForThee: I'm not saying it's hard though am I? I'm saying it's poorly balanced.

Tell me the situation we are in where multiple people are unloading about half of their entire ammo capacity (not half the magazine, half of our entire capacity of an ammo type we carry) onto what was a normally weak non-boss enemy to kill one. And the entire group runs out of ammo before we're able to clear any enemies we come across. These are weapons we pull out with golden keys as well for our level so it isn't even like it's under powered guns.

That's what you call a greatly balanced game? Me read good.

                • @Smol Cat:

                  Tell me the situation

The situation… is a skill issue lmao. Your aim / guns / skill points / stat combo / spell types were poorly optimised. It's possible to solo the game being severely under levelled with ease. If you can't do it with a group that ain't the game. It's the group. Some people are really bad at these games but that doesn't mean that the game isn't balanced well.

I am truly not trying to be mean or joking. Most fans of the games say it's on the edge of being too easy.

                  • -1

@DiscountForThee: “Yeah such a skill issue bro, you’re just bad the game makes every enemy a bullet sponge. You’re just bad that you didn’t level your spellzzz correctly brooo. Just got guuud”

Yeah a brain dead loot and shoot game requires such a high skill ceiling to play it. You must be a real epic gamer to be able to play Borderlands hahaha Please tell me more.

                    • @Smol Cat:

the game makes every enemy a bullet sponge

No, your low skills make you have a low damage output because of the reasons I listed above. If a player didn't suck, they wouldn't have bad aim / gun types / skill points / talent points / spell types / enchants. What I'm saying is - it's incredibly easy to defeat Wonderlands enemies, quickly, with just a tiny bit of skillful thought into the synergy of all your items and abilities.

When a player doesn't suck they do lots and lots and lots of damage within seconds. Did you also know that shooting them in the head or other shiny spots often applies critical damage and the enemies die faster?

                      such a high skill ceiling

I am saying the opposite lmao and that anyone who struggles (and those who are doing as low damage as in your confession earlier is struggling) is miles away from this "ceiling". I also believe you might have meant the term "skill floor" btw

                      • -2

@DiscountForThee: Wow you must be a pro gamer or sumthinks

                        • +1

@Smol Cat: I can definitely see why you would see it that way :)

                          • -3

@DiscountForThee: Must really love this bad game to be defending such a badly balanced game so hard. Not the sharpest tool are ya

                            • @Smol Cat: It seems that my explanations for why you were having a troubled experience and were thinking that enemies are bullet sponges have not been effective. The reasons for you not understanding the reasons are probably the same as why you were struggling to begin with.

Next time you can always ask a parent or older sibling to help you get past the hard parts. I believe in you, though, and I am sure you'll improve with time!

                              • -2

@DiscountForThee: Do you also like eating trash out of a bin?

                                • +1

@Smol Cat: No, sorry, I cannot provide you with any tips that you wouldn't already have mastered

                                  • -1

@DiscountForThee: Just a suggestion as a past time you may enjoy due to your particular tastes. Let me know how you go!

                                    • @Smol Cat: Thanks, I'm sure it wouldn't be too challenging if it is something that even you are able to accomplish!

                                      • -2

@DiscountForThee: You also realise that you saying this game being extremely easy/too easy is just confirming my point this game is a pile of poorly balanced trash. Don't waste your time on it and play a real gam like Call of Doody.

                                        • @Smol Cat:

You also realise that you saying this game being extremely easy/too easy is just confirming my point this game is a pile of poorly balanced trash

It's a great thing that there are Chaos Levels which directly add difficulty so you can still get the increased challenge that you desire :)

Of course, this is unlocked at after the campaign is finished, and doesn't do much if you're already struggling

                                          • +1

@DiscountForThee: Stop making things up. 4/10 IGN, trash game for trash players: Confirmed!

      • It's missing BL2 VR and Tiny Tina's Wonderland. As per OP.

      • +1

If you've got PS+ (any tier), you can grab the Tiny Tina's Wonderlands : Chaotic Great Game Edition for PS4 and PS5 with all DLC and season pass, except for one costume pack for $44.77.

I thought it was worth buying to complete the collection!

  • I'm still spewing I missed 3 and all DLC for 22 bucks about a year ago. Been waiting for it to reach that same historical low ever since.

    • Honestly, I didn't enjoy 3. I adored 1 & 2
It wasn't technically that bad, but just had none of the magic and it was tedious to grind through
The HUD is way too small as well - you have to sit really close to the TV (when using a console) just to see ammo, stats etc

  • didn't need it but bought it. I guess I still have Ozbargain in my blood

haven't done this for a while

  • +2

Costed me only 8.75 to complete the collection on Steam. Please do note that this Complete Collection is not complete- it does not include - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands or the expanded version of it - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands: : Chaotic Great Edition.

  • I know for a fact I redeemed borderlands the handsome collection and borderlands 3 from PS Plus. Confirmed with email receipts as well.

Now for some reason I can only buy the handsome collection, no more option to download.

Borderlands 3 downloaded but it had the PlayStation plus logo with a lock on it, so I probably can’t access that either

    • The PS Store can be wonky sometimes, particularly for PS+ monthly redeemed games - check your game library on your console to see if The Handsome Collection appears there.

BL3 was on the PS+ Extra Games Library for a while, but was removed on August 15, which is why you would be seeing a lock there.

      • BL3 makes sense. Handsome collection is definitely in my library but still won’t let me download it.

        • One other thing - the PS+ monthly games require an active PS+ subscription to download/play. If your sub is expired, that might explain why you're not able to download it (and it should be downloadable again if you resub).

  • Man this is a crazy deal, showing as 45 for me on Xbox. Pulled the trigger even though I am yet to buy a Series X and don't have a Xbox anymore.

  • +1

This is crazy. I’m starting to think my life is like the Truman show. recently I’ve been adding those golden keys to my account and I had the urge to play some borderlands. I have some of the games physical and was looking into the switch version because it’s currently on sale wondering if my gold keys will carry onto it. Then I came across this deal, and because I have some random borderland games digital I get the sale, only 45 dollars, and I almost have everything now. This will keep me busy for a long time in my xsx

  • +3

I had a copy of Borderlands 3 PS4 that I picked up from Target for $10 a while back. If you pop that in, and START the PS4 (or free upgraded PS5) version, you get shown a screen where you can buy the Pandora's Box collection for $45.95 on the AU PSN Store.

Then you no-longer need the PS4 disc inserted to play the PS5 version as a bonus.

    I think it's great value…

    You essentially get:

Borderlands : The Handsome Collection for PS4 (which includes…)
Borderlands : Game Of The Year Edition for PS4
    Borderlands 2 for PS4
    Borderlands : The Pre-Sequel for PS4

Borderlands 3 : Ultimate Edition (with all DLC and season passes) for PS4 and PS5

New Tales From The Borderlands Deluxe Edition (with DLC) for PS4 and PS5

Tales From The Borderlands for PS4

And, if you want to complete the collection… Tiny Tina's Wonderlands : Chaotic Edition (for PS+ members on any tier) for both PS4 & PS5 with all DLC except one costume pack all for $44.77.

  • +3

I can confirm that the discount applies after purchasing a game in the bundle for the Xbox. It also works in the Turkish store if you followed that deal too. Ended up with the bundle for around $36

    • Nice, thanks for confirming!

    • What’s the Turkish store deal you refer to?

  • I have Borderlands 2 & 3 purchased from the Epic store. Is there a way of getting a discount for this from the Steam bundle?

    • Unfortunately, no. It's a bit weird that this bundle isn't also on Epic, but I'm guessing that it's because the EGS is not setup to handle bundles like this.

      • bummer. I've got the epic account linked to steam but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

  • Thanks! Got it for 550 TRY / 32 AUD via PlayStation (Upgrade).

    • Hey mate, could you please check if the DLCs are available on any other account on your PS console? I'm having a dilemma, to buy from Au store for ~45$ (that's where my main account Lvl 72 is) or to buy for Turkey store for ~32, and pray that the DLC's will cross shared on the same console, even though the regions are different , and be available in my main account.

      • Can confirm BL3 DLC works cross account on PlayStation (unlike Division 2)

        • Thanks heaps mate!
Btw, those are different countries accounts?

        • Hey @Shadowblade, mate, could you please confirm they are different countries accounts? I am still hesitant to purchase :)

  • Slightly off-topic but Tiny Tina's Wonderlands : Chaotic Great Edition should be part of September's Humble Choice. Leaked by billbil-kun.
