Event Cinemas Movie Ticket - No Booking Fee: $13.50 (Adult), $11.50 (Child) @ Event Cinemas via Telstra Plus (Free CineBuzz Req)

1160

I'm sharing this deal to make others aware that this is currently the cheapest way to watch a movie at Event Cinemas besides student / senior discounts and half price Tuesdays. The advantage to this deal is that you don't have to pay for the online booking fee while getting cheap tickets and you can use discounted event cinema gift cards or pay with Telstra points. Although RACQ vouchers are the same price, there is a booking fee of $1.65 per ticket if you use them when booking online.

Tickets prices are as follows: Standard adult $13.50, standard child $11.50, Gold Class Thursdays $32, 3D $15.50, V-Max $16.50, Moonlight Cinema $13.50.

Telstra Plus members earn 10 points per $1 on payments towards Telstra Plus discounted tickets purchased online (excludes surcharges). Credits and refunds excluded.

$3 surcharge per ticket if booking a session after 5 pm on a Saturday.

Here's a fancy comparison table

Telstra Plus RACQ
Use discounted giftcards Yes No
Online booking fee cost per ticket $0 $1.65
Earn and use Telstra Points Yes No
Adult movie cost $13.50 $13.50
Child movie cost $11.50 $11.50

    As it should be!!

Online booking fee can't be justified because it costs more for the company to hire staff to sell tickets at the cinemas; but wait, they even got rid of them and forced everyone to queue at the candy bars for tickets. Having paid, you've to sit through 10 mins of advertising if you arrive on time.

        10 minutes? More like 20.

  • Telstra has (I think recently?) cracked down on Telstra Plus accounts without a Telstra service attached.

Seems like you can no longer access Telstra Plus without a service (even if you still have points and were previously connected).

    • Indeed but it looks like you can still use the “inactive” Telstra Plus account to purchase Event movie tickets at discounted price

      • Sweet!

Doesn't work for me. I get an error upon logging in (Support code: LBNF001).

        • +1

Same thing happened to me recently after years of access with no issues and no Telstra service.
All my points have been taken too :(

        • I get the same, no active Telstra service.

    • Still works fine for me and I haven't had a Telstra service since Telstra Prepaid Plus stopped many years ago.
I do still have a Boost service which might be the mitigating kinda/sorta Telstra Service that is keeping my account alive with no formal active service.

EDIT: I am unable to buy things through Telstra Plus with my (extremely limited number of) Plus points, but as commented above me, other Plus benefits still work fine.

    • That's strange. I'm still able to access it and I have no active services through Telstra brand. Maybe they wait a certain amount of time before removing your access? Do Boost services qualify?

    • Works for me. Closest thing to having a Telstra Service is a 1 month Boost SIM that expired a couple of months ago.

      Telstra subtracted the access.

In Adelaide Raa the tickets are $10 + $1.65 booking.
So if you're in Adelaide go the Raa route.

Just took a look, seems to be 12 dollars now (plus booking)

I wish Hoyts didn't have booking fees..

If you have foxtel rewards, they do hoyts tickets for $12.50 any day of the week + booking fee. Not as cheap as this deal but does come close

I buy the vouchers from Shopback.

    • This is what I used to do, until I found out using discounted voucher still required to pay booking fee, while Telstra plus has no fee

      • Well…. $11.50 for the ones not usable on Thursday or Friday after 5pm/weekends + $1.65 booking fee ($13.15), makes it a hair of a fraction cheaper than Telstra if you're not aiming for those timeslots…

        • From memory I think if you use the shopback vouchers on the event site via the Telstra Plus link you can get tix with no booking fee. I think I remember doing that at one point, correct me if I’m wrong.

        • Where is 11.50 only 13.95

      • Last time i booked there was no fee.

Went to visit my parents in Ctown on weekend. Popped into see Strays at the local cinema. Cost me $14 for ticket, small popcorn and small drink!

    Good times https://www.dumaresqstreetcinema.com.au/

  • Tried this but I'm still getting the booking fee:
    1xCinebuzz Half Price - Special Offer - Original / V-Max $13.00
    1xBooking Fees $1.65
    Total price $14.65

    • You need to sign in through Telstra Plus first. You then select "Telstra Plus Adult" ticket.

CineBuzz Half price is still cheaper (offered only on Tuesdays) if you book at the cinema in person.

  • Anyone know how much these cinemas make in a year just from booking fees ? Whoever maintains these sites is making a lot lol 😂

  • How do I select a different date? I can only see Today showing which none are showing.

    • Should be at the top of the page. See screenshot

      • Thanks, looks like I checked other cinemas and it shows now.

Moonlight Cinema in melbourne is closed until Dec 2023 so no shows

Cinemas should never be charging booking fees in the first place

  • For anyone who no longer has a Telstra Plus account that works, if you've ever used your membership to buy movie tickets, you might be lucky and have the Telstra token from the URL saved in your browser history.

    • Yeah I was wondering if it was still referral URL based like before…

  • Account still stay active if you have a Boost Mobile plan but no other Telstra services?

  • +1

on a side note - i wish popcorn & drink prices are not rip off…. sighhh…

  • nothing in vic

    • We already have Reading Cinemas. $10 tickets if you buy them at the candy bar to avoid the booking fee scam.

Does a boost sim get me telstra plus?

  • +1

To Make a deal even sweeter: pay with 15% discounted GC, available in SB…

  • Will this get me into a ScreenX session?
If not, which ticket from RACQ do I need for ScreenX?

    • You have to select the session first so if you choose a ScreenX session and it lets you choose Telstra Plus tickets, it will work.
