I agree. It may be decent, but I'm willing to bet the margins are obscene on these things.
Margins for materials annd manufacturing are probably obscene but not when you factor in R&D and the fact that they are not a high volume product.
They are premium. They sound better than most ear phones. Why do people spend money on anything? That house is too expensive, that tv is too expensive..the list goes on. Can criticise the price of any premium item really, it’s for those who value quality sound.
Not really, I think it's explicitly a consumer product. Studio IEMs would be very neutrally tuned.
This is professional product intended for professional use (usually on stage, because in studio sound engineers would use over ear headphones). They do not compete with consumer grade products.
Having said that, some performers prefer individually shaped IEMs shaped for their ears. This is at best a prosumer product who are audiophiles. Professionals don't use this to mix music as its tuning is meant for music listening. Performers don't use this as they don't have the best ergonomics. They use custom IEMs that is molded to their ear anatomy.
Customs are so good for comfort. Really good if you found the IEMs you can see yourself using in the long term. Mine still going after almost 10 years.
@jt90: Yeah I have yet to dive into CIEMs. I really like my 64Audio Nio, even more than my other pair U12T even though the U12T is way more accurate. One day I will commit!
How good is this?
849 smackaroo coins good. Apparently. Would love to know who here is baller enough to have one.
There are literally LOADS of earbuds at $50 that are really good. Sure, the audiophile snobs would claim that certain high end products are really good, but I suspect 99% of us can't tell the difference and is buying into the marketing. Plus those that can actually afford a thousand dollar earbud probably is old enough age-wise that they are already at various stages of hearing loss (our hearing peaks at 18-25 generally). Beyond that, every year it just gets worse and worse. Someone at 40 or older who thinks they still have the hearing sensitivity of an 18 year old should drop into an audiology shop and get themselves tested. I'm willing to bet their hearing sucks and they're just flushing money down the toilet.
Wow I've never seen anyone so salty over other people flushing their money down the toilet
@bindok: I'm not salty but laughing at those elderlies who thinks they can pick out nuances. If you're 18, have great hearing, and can afford thousand dollar earbuds, by all means! You've likely got 7 years before it all starts going downhill…
@clubhonda: 7 years is being generous!
I got to try these out and others at a massive audiophile superstore in tokyo japan. I really wanted to love these, after listening to the IE900's. the 900's blew me away, if I had 2k to drop right then and there I would have.
I tried the IE600's next in hopes that it would be a happy medium. Still eye wateringly expensive but within reach. I can not overstate my disappointment. They were muddy, shrill and overall a dumpster fire. For half the money they are about a third of the way to the greatness what was the ie900's.
I ended up buying the Meze Advar for 850$ which sounded quite close to the ie900's.
Still hard to justify while you've got the Hexa at $100, the IE200 at $150, and the 7Hz Timeless regularly at $230, and the Blessing 2 regularly at $330.
The IE 600 is a better IEM, but not with those options and price points.
Always diminishing returns the more you spend, and these aren’t in the same league even when comparing to Chifi competitors. This more in line with the moondrop variations and dunu sa6s in terms of quality and technicalities, which are similarly priced.
Yeah I guess my point is that you have to be a proper IEM fan at that point, and fitment will be key. I'd personally cap out at $300 unless there's a leap in driver tech (xMEMS?) or open-back IEM designs (currently less detailed).
Yeah each to their own, for sure most value iems are in the $100-$300 bracket.
@lowlifesphere: I've been out of the IEM market for a couple years now. What is currently the most highly appraised high-end IEM at the moment?
@jt90: Probably Fatfreq Grand Maestro and Subtonic Storm.
@bcstyle: They both look interesting with the driver choices. Thanks for the suggestion, it is quite timely since I'm out to Singapore in a few weeks so I might be able to demo them over there.
@jt90: 64 Audio A/U12T has been in the top spot for a long time until it got moved recently. ThieAudio Monarch Mk2 is now in the No. 3 spot. Number 1 is Elysian Annihilator (2021) and Number 2 is Hidition Viento (according to Crinacle here: https://crinacle.com/rankings/iems/).
can go even further, imo the $30 kz d-fri gives the hexa a run for the money
Then your Hexa would definitely benefit from a tip change. :P
1DD wise the go right now would be the Simgot EW200.
I'm seeing them for around $50, any idea where you can get them for $30?
I think they mean $30 USD?
@jasswolf: Gotcha!
sorry that's converted RMB taobao price, if you know anyone who can bring it back for you.
probably can get close including shipping with aliexpress bonus cashback/discount?
@xrailgun: No problem, thanks!
Are the Hexa really comparable to these? The only decent iems I own are the Moondrop Blessing 2 (non dusk). I love them but if the Hexa are that good I'd happily plonk down a $100 and try them out.
No not comparable, but definitely better value.
Where can I find a Blessing 2 that's sitting pretty on $300 😭? I've been trying to find one (especially the ones with the engraving), but can't seem to find them at that price. The Amazon one is currently at $400+, and at that point, the 7Hz Timeless is the more value purchase at $300 (it's 15% off at checkout).
There is one from Amazon Japan for 376.86.
AliExpress major sales, next one would be November, maybe a pre-sale in October.
Better off buying Clears if you're just going to use these for home.
And if you aren’t worried about annoying people around you, clears are very leaky due to open back nature.
There is still the Radiance which is more comparable since it is a closed back.
Link? :)

Ranks pretty high on this IEM list but there's prob something cheaper that is better value for money.
damn it! I paid almost the same price for the Moondrop S8. I should have waited 6 months!
lol in 6 months time people would be posting
"damn it! I paid almost the same price for the IE600. I should have waited 6 months!"
on a Variations 2 deal.
it'll never end.
I've dabbled in IEMs for quite a bit of time. In my experience diminishing returns are very real but there are reasons why people pay money for that extra bit of performance. A $1,000 IEM is not twice as good as a $500 but it will offer characteristics like a wider soundstage and its ability separate layers of sound or instruments. Whether that extra $x is up to the individual.
The people who dump on pricing for premium stuff they have no idea what they're talking about are the same people who will gladly buy Air Pods for $300 which depreciate daily due to the non-repairable battery. This however will sound just as good in 10,20,30 years time.
What makes you think they're all air pod buying people with no idea? This is ozbargain, they are more likely to be buying $30 kz d-fri
hello there
What are you plugging these into OP?
Do you have a DAC recommendation for PC?
apple dongle /s
Apple dongle is very good, just flimsy.
Not hard to drive, motherboard dac should be good enough any better dac will be very little improvement.
Excellent IEMs. They shine if you pair them with a good DAC / AMP - something like IFI Gryphon or Chord mojo2 if you want an endgame setup on the go.
I have been using them with multiple desktop DAC / AMP combo and also with Dongle DACs and DAPs, and I enjoy them,
The best part of this IEM is the fit and comfort.
I got some high-end chifi, but the fit is a big question mark. With these, they fit 90% of the audience with easeYep good if you want to wear for a whole work day, some higher end options might sound a little better but you’d need to take em out after 1 hour.
Will they deliver eargasm every time, multiple times each night? Otherwise how can they justify that price!?
I guess it's meant for musicians they can write these off as a business expense?
