Coles Mobile (Coles?) Telstra Prepaid $30 Starter Kits (Inc iPad Micro SIM) for $10 (Save $20)

120

Saw this advertised in the Coles Mobile catalogue, so I'm not sure whether this will be available from all Coles Supermarkets. Includes both the regular SIM (Orange) Packs and micro SIM (Pink) Packs.

The $10 iPad Micro SIM Pack gets you 3GB of data with 30 day expiry. No better deal out there than this one for your iPad.

Other specials available from all Coles:

1)Telstra Prepaid Uno $44.50 (Save $44.50) and
2)Vodafone Prepaid $30 Cap SIM $15 (Save $15)
3)Optus $29.95 Prepaid SIM Pack $19 (Save $10.95)

Telstra Prepaid $30 Starter Kit $10 (Save $20)

    • Yeah, that's pretty good with it's free talk and text from 6pm-6am.. but with only 400MB data (which appears to have some kind of condition attached to it anyway) it's not even coming close to competing with Woolies 5GB. I'm happy tolerate Optus for the the cheap data alone.

      • The condition is data is charged in MB increments.

You can use the $30 recharge credit to purchase a further 700MB of data making it a total of 1.1GB. And this is data that you can actually use, unlike Optus and Vodafone (both of which I have used) which are unreliable most of the time, Telstra is just unreliable sometimes.

I still rather be paying $27.50 for 5GB data than $30 for 1.1GB.

I've not used Vodafone, but I have used both Telstra and Optus. It's maybe either that you're living way out in the sticks or huge exaggeration when you say…

unlike Optus [snip] which are unreliable most of the time

I live out in the country (regional Vic) and, apart from the odd drop-out here and there, Optus service isn't all that different to Telstra (I've found). Most certainly not such a different standard that I'd foresake 4GB data per month to use Telstra at the same price.

I live in the SE suburbs of Melbourne and most places I use a mobile device Telstra is more reliable.

My main phone service is with Vodafone, but their data speeds are poor just about everywhere. I carry a mobile wifi device and use these Telstra SIMs for data. I never use my 1.1GB allocation, and I would imagine very, very few people would ever use 5GB of mobile data in a month. But people need to use what suits them most and what suits their budget.

What I meant by Optus and Vodafone being unreliable is that it's not uncommon for me to get speeds in excess of 5Mbps with Telstra, whereas with the other carries I might be able to achieve those sort of speeds at 3am in the morning when it's no use to me then.

        • "You can use the $30 recharge credit to purchase a further 700MB of data making it a total of 1.1GB"

Sorry, can u please explain this part for me? Does it mean that I can use this kit and recharge my data and get 1.1g instead of using it as a new data plan?

          Thank you in advance.

        • I would imagine very, very few people would ever use 5GB of mobile data in a month.

If you're just stuffing around from your phone, perhaps yes.

But once you tether, which is what i'm doing right now, then it doesn't take long to blow 5G.

The Woolies deal has been around for about a year now & it's still competitive.

Bored at work at the moment.

Sorry don't have an Optus SIM to test. But fairly much the same as Vodafone.

        • ..though all rather academic, isn't it? With a laughable '0.4gb' — sampler pack, all one can be doing with such is reviewing speeds, exchanging emails possibly at best.
          fast, but concurrently worthless.

Telstra Prepaid Uno is so noob compare to LG Optimus Spirit…

    • 650MHz MTK MT6573
    • 2.8", 262K, 240 x 320 pixels, capacitive touch
    • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n

wow they actually used a mtk chip

      • it's just a different name of a chinese mobile brand ZTE

  • Just curious OP, how do you know this is the same deal for the $30 iPad Micro Sim. It's not mentioned anywhere on that page (that I can read).

    • +1

Because I have already picked up at my local coles mobile.

You can still get the regular SIM packs, then go to a Telstra Store (companny owned) and they will provide you with free micro SIMS. So same result either way.

  • So now we need to find out if we can get these deals in Coles supermarket as well. Only 1 Coles mobile in NSW which is in Shellharbour and it is too far away from where I live.

  • If you're in Victoria, at least there is plenty of stores:

Comes Bondi Junction said yes to the $30 Telstra pack for $10 - but none in stock.

Close at North Rise Bay are saying $30 for the SIM pack.

Coles Customer Service (based in Melbourne?) say that it is a 'valid' advertised price and so Coles Supermarkrts should 'honour' the $10 price.

The guy at this Rose Bay store won't do it for the $10. What do I do now?

    • +2

Kill the guy at Rose Bay !

    • Do you want me to upload my receipt?

    • Same issue. The Coles supermarket did not want to sell it at $10. Told me that offer is only valid at Coles Mobile. Went to Coles Mobile and the guy tried to upsell every single stuff in the store

      • Sounds like more stuffing around than any legitimate deal from Coles\T.

  • Coles Hornsby say this pack is $30

its actually 400+700+200mb iirc…. btw how do you activate as iPad?

    • +2

Ring them up and tell them you want to use it in an ipad. Then simply activate 1 SIM every month. 36GB data over 12 months with $120 outlay. Best deal in town my friend.

      • Except of course, that a year ago this is topped by $208.80/40GB/+2,ooo+ minutesvoice, package. OR, 100.8: for those taken @Woolworths 1/2 price.
No funny ring-them-up-monthly phone chicanery required. :tablets +smartphones.

        • damn, have to call, how annoying. was hoping for online. I got the woolies 1/2 price + 10% off thing. Used it all up already.

        • do it through online chat on the telstra website, they end up calling you

  • Tried at Coles Harrisdale no good.

  • Title and OP should be updated. Deal is only from coles mobile stores listed in the catalogue.

The only coles mobile store in NSW is in Shellharbour!

  • I have a spare $30 Telstra startup kit, expiry date Dec 2013. Happy to sell it for $10.
It is a normal-sized (not micro) SIM card. The outside packaging has been opened, but the SIM is unused and is still attached to the credit-card sized plastic thing.

    PM me if interested.
