I did this deal last December. It's good value but no way would I pay $270+ for it.

I did this deal last December. Wouldn't know if its good value as I haven't used it …

  • Can you cancel after sign up to avoid renew at usual price

    • -1

You may cancel at any point in time before you're billed annually.

    • +4

      Thanks for the tip.

      quickly checks subscription status

Edit: I paid $16.49 last November and it's a discounted recurring payment. That's why I didn't cancel straight away.

taps temple twice with index finger

      • +1

        This is extremely aesthetic

      • Does it renew at same price, where to confirm this please

      • How did you get that price if I may ask?

      • how?

        • +1

I can't remember to be honest. I recall doing it via a cashrewards offer and there was a glitch that offered further discount and obviously perpetual pricing. Sorry I can't help further.

@MS Paint: Thanks for the update. I can vaguely recall, yeah nah I will never use it, might as well save the $ for eneloops. :D

    • +1

Can confirm you still have access after you cancel.

  • Hows this compared to Udemy and the like?

  • Does this teach theory at all? And strumming patterns etc

    • You make me remember my high school art class, We thought we were learning how to paint, but it was more like "Follow these steps to create this exact picture shown"

If this Fender class is just a play along with me thing…

"• Step-by-step lessons • Popular songs made easy"

      Sigh

    • it does

    • +4

It doesn't teach music theory as that's quite a rabbit hole which never ends. It teaches you how to play but not what you're playing. It's in tab form so doesn't even cover how to read sheet music.
This is great if you want to jump onto YouTube and play a song. But down the track you'll realise you don't REALLY know how to play guitar at all.

For music theory you'd need a teacher or books from say Hal Leonard.
This is where you go from "I know how to play guitar!" To pro level.. Harmonising chords, common chord progression, circle of 5ths, pentatonic scales, transposing chords into different keys, Phrygian, Dorian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Lydian etc etc etc.

Down the track with music theory you'll speed up learning by years when you have a full understanding of chords and you'll not only be able to play covers but create your own music and embellish existing songs to make them your own.

      • +1

Ok so are you recommending one should learn music theory first?

        • +1

Technically you should but it's boring and you will lose interest. Learn it alongside playing basic songs for a much better experience.

          • @MS Paint: Yeh it’s mega boring. Learn a few simple chords on the acoustic then get on the electric guitar , crank the overdrive and punch out some sweet metal riffs.

        • You'd do about a 60/40 ratio. Music theory can become extremely boring, complex etc. You need to be able to pick up a guitar and play your favourite song each night as that's the reward early on.

I'd set a goal and try and learn 6 songs between now and the end of the year. Songs you enjoy. Find the sheet music for it and learn them.

  • Is there something similar or effective for learning drums?

    • Clone Hero lets you use a midi kit, and a lot of songs are accurate enough to get you started.

    • +1

I learnt drums during lockdown with Melodics. Highly recommended.

Good deal at this price. Recommended for beginners and intermediates. Easy to follow basics and unlike some other sites, covers bass and ukulele as well as the usual guitar.

Is there something similar for learning the piano?

    • +4

Piano by Yousician or simply piano

      • Thanks. I will check it out.

      • Expensive though

        • Not if you live in turkey

          • @Commodore64: Doesn't it require turkey payment card?
I tried India VPN, it required Indians payment card

  • How does this compare to the many other learn to play guitar apps available on appstores? Ofcourse it's mostly about practice and practice, but I'd like to know some theory as well at appropriate doses instead of just play along style courses…

    • +1

Try to do a 60% music theory to 40% playing.
Progressive guitar method book 1, 2 and Guitar chords will get you there faster than Fender play.
You'll be 10x more advanced than even level 4 of fender play which would take you weeks.
Hal Leonard has awesome books too.

I use Hal Leonard books, Progressive guitar books, fender play and Gibson app and have guitar lessons with someone who has a B-mus.

      • Perfect thanks for sharing!. I also have been taking lessons with someone for couple of years. I feel like I'm at that stage where I need bit more theory side on how things all tie together and bit of composing etc…

        • +4

This is what I was trying to explain above. Anyone can learn 4 chords and play over 300 songs but it doesn't teach you What you're playing and how chords go together and harmonise and the theory behind it.

Without this you become quite limited and won't be able to improvise or compose.

Try to find a teacher who specialises in improvisation as they'll have a sound understanding of Music theory and can compose etc. They'll teach you everything and make you lead guitar worthy.

  • Thanks OP, I subscribed.

Not looking to get any advanced musical theory out of this app, nor am I planning on becoming an expert guitarist. Just hoping that I can learn to pick up the guitar, play all the major chords and be able to look up any song I wanna play and follow through with it. Hopefully the progression based program will keep me motivated and not give up!

    • I found that in the early Fender lessons songs were oversimplified and didn’t sound like originals. Justin Guitar offers great beginner lessons, beginner theory as well, for free. He has paid advance theory lessons too, but once you get the basic theory down, there are lots of free sites that help you apply it effectively.
Check out Stitch Method Guitar for more advanced applications of pentatonics, chord tones, arpeggios, melody’s, circle of fifths, etc etc. All free but you can access his paid patreon lessons too.

  • Perfect timing! Got a bass is just sitting in the corner doing nothing. Thanks OP :)

    • +3

Perfect to have this sitting on your computer doing nothing :)

  • I used rocksmith to learn guitar. It's real fun and you can download songs from mods.

  • Can anyone recommend a beginners guitar?
    Budget under $400.

Always been keen to try learning in my newly built garage man cave.

  • Just subbed with the promo code. Song choices are very limited so that's quite disappointing..

  • I just recently discovered Rock Smith 2014 Remastered and am enjoying it tremendously. Might not be the "proper" way to learn, but if you feel like you're stuck, I'd recommend giving it a go.

    • I've been learning bass on Rocksmith. It pretty much just teaches you to memorise songs but that's all I have time for these days. Plus, it's damn fun.

  • have been considering it but does it have anything that couldn't be found on youtube?

  • Mine came up as $26.39, living the ozb dream!

  • Has anyone successfully able to play medium level difficulty songs with this? I been following Justin G but after the initial lessons I just can't follow it anymore without someone explain what the hell is happening…..

    • I have. I did 1/4 the basic stuff then got impatient and went straight for the medium and advanced level songs that I liked. I did have music lessons on other (non-string) instruments when I was a kid though. For me the instructions in Fender are easier to comprehend than Justin G. YMMV.

  • Hi, I can only see 2 plans, monthly and annually, no option for "without the acoustic guitar"

Can someone tell me if they have changed the offer?
