Need this the other way around…over VA.

any other Australia FF program? how many others are there??

    • +3

I mean Rex has a loyalty program, but I'm sure they're mainly just trying to target Qantas customers ;)

Being VA gold I gotta say lunch options at their lounges are just extra sad 😢… It's really only for people who love drinking

    • +2

Even Qantas lounge offerings are sad. Best they have done last two times are toasted ham and cheese sandwiches for hot food…

      • +1

Yeah that's what I've found with Qantas Club. Business lounges are not too bad though (I think only platinum and above have access unless flying biz class…but at least it's an option unlike VA)

    • Never say no to pre flight drinks!

      • I used to be this way, even drinking at 7am ahead of International flights! After a few hundred flights over the past few years though my opinion on this has changed.

        • Still haven't changed. Love me some SQ status

If you like drinking wine and beer, it's okay. But a lack of sprits doesn't redeem overcrowding and poor food choices. I've just lost VA Gold and have no desire to get if back, I'd rather fly Rex and use a cafe before my flight. With over 60% of my flights between Sydney and Brisbane cancelled or delayed in the last year, they've lost me.

    • I was there in syd Melb and adel lounges the last few weeks and the food is real bad. It’s gone down hill a lot. I think Bain are getting ready to float it and are cutting out everything around the edges to save coin

  • Lounges gonna be packed like a tin of sardines.

    • +1

It's bad enough now with all the Amex plebs hoovering up any food scraps.

We live in a first world country, so naturally we have first world problems. What of it?

    • Well, good prep for flying Economy. lol

Virgin, Flying international and no international lounges for folks that are Gold or Platinum… Cmon now..

    • It would cost them like $20 wholesale to set up an agreement it’s pathetic

  • our lounge options for our local carriers are absolutely pathetic.
VA doesn't even offer an International lounge option, to the point that some people in MEL hover over to the domestic lounge while waiting for their INTERNATIONAL planes.

however, at the Gold tier, travelling on a partner airline is pretty neat. Did Qatar to Europe 2 months ago and was granted access to their gold lounge (but due to it being so quiet in both lounges, they sent me up to platinum lounge anyways) and made use of the Etihad lounge on the way back (although this was quite dated… maybe in the next decade EY will move to their brand new terminal sitting empty?)

You also get access to the Polaris lounges with UA and the Goldkris lounge with SQ. as far as a pleb tier local carrier goes, they've got good partnerships that earn status credits quite nicely if you're into that.

to extend onto their reward seats… much better than QFF even at the Red tier. its a bit of a bloodbath at 330 days for the day you wish, and you still compete with the other carriers, but i tend to be able to find at least one Business reward seat to/from europe during peak season if you're flexible enough.

    • Wait, Polaris Lounges on UA as VA Gold? I'm VA Platinum and have only ever been given United Club access, unless I'm an idiot and have been going to the wrong lounges?

      • nope, you'd be right, my bad. It is the United Club lounges.

  • I'm currently Platinum and barely see any usage for Virgin in terms of lounges. The majority of the lounges that I want to use are in Asia and US but we can't use any of those unless we fly with Singapore Airlines or United. I might as well obtain Asiana Diamond status with 40,000 miles flown to be Star Alliance Gold instead. At least, I can book with other Star Alliance airlines to get competitive pricing and still get lounges with other airlines.
