  • This vs Apple for iPhone 15?

    • If I read it correctly, TCN website will allow me to directly convert it into JBHifi or GG GC?

      • I think your talking about Ultimate Gift Card.

      • +3

At the time of writing this comment, that is correct.

The TCN Him gift card webpage currently says it can be used instore or online at JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys. (If you click/tap on the JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys logo within the grid of participating retailer logos, it will tell you in the box next to this grid that it is redeemable instore and online at these two participating retailers.)

Online in a TCN physical gift card context actually refers to you going to the TCN website and exchanging the partial or full balance of a TCN Him gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card or The Good Guys gift card. To do an exchange:

        • Go to the webpage for the TCN Him gift card
        • Scroll down to the How To Use section
        • Enter the gift card number into the box and select Continue
        • Choose the desired participating retailer from the dropdown list
        • Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the box or dropdown list
        • Click/tap on Proceed
        • Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital gift card emailed to you.

Keep in mind that TCN can (and does) remove the ability to exchange a TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card or The Good Guys gift card at any time without prior notice, although this usually only happens at least once a year around November in the lead-up to Black Friday.

  • The Restaurant Card not valid at fast food restaurants?

    • +2

It is not supposed to work at any merchants using the Merchant Category Code for Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814), although some OzBargainers in the past have said they do in fact work there. I am not sure what the current situation is, although I am sure someone more informed than me can help you out there.

Keep in mind that any merchant using Square terminals will not accept physical TCN Restaurant gift cards (regardless of the MCC being used), because Square will not process any transactions on the eftpos network for swipe (magstripe) payments. I go into this in more detail here if you are interested.

Thanks for the detailed info, just trying to figure out a good place to spend the last dollars

        • +1

They still work at fast food restaurants. Find a restaurant that accepts split payments with gift cards. I have several cards under $1 balance as I regularly get $1 offers for stuff (mainly at Macca's and HJ's). Will do split payment at my local Indian takeaway to use up the last cents.

          • @MiscOzB: I'm surprised local Indian would allow split card for last few cents

must be a very friendly local Indian

            • @Poor Ass: The kid that served me last time didn't seem to mind at all, also helps that it's usually very quiet there, so no pressure from other waiting customers.

I used to do split payments at Domino's but then they introduced their in-store card surcharge which made it not worth bothering anymore.

              • @MiscOzB: what's ya go to curries?

                • +1

@Poor Ass: Lamb korma and butter chicken. Might try some others out down the track. I rarely order because it's pretty expensive. Gonna try out some of the Coco Earth meals (currently $3.50 half price at Woolies ending today).

                  • @MiscOzB: Butter chicken and Lamb Rogan josh…. The best

  • +1

Awesome thanks, can stack with timezone double dollars this weekend (instore).

  • So this is essentially like getting 5% cashback?

    • +2

10% actually if you don't count the value of discounted Woolies gcs

      • Oh yeah. That’s pretty good. Don’t think you can buy with woolies GC?

        • Not buying with gc, what I meant was

20x points is 10% off in points for groceries, Big W and EG fuel etc

But it's not a true 10% off because people generally can make those purchases at a discount e.g 4% off a Woolies gc

    • -1

I consider it to be a 9.6% discount. Rewards points of $100 has the same value as discounted WW eGift cards costing me $96 assuming a 4% discount.

    TCN Him - Uber/UberEats

I just saw the updated list on TCN website. Both TCN Him + Gift now has Uber/UberEats.

I’ve confirmed with several TCN Gift card that I haven’t used.

    • good found. does it work like TCN GIFT swap to small amount $5 $10 $20 through online?

  • Stupid question, but is there any way of knowing if my local Woolies (6052, WA) will also have the same deal?
I can't find that in the local catalogue. :(

  • +1

Well, a better find is shopback has 15% cashback on Uber gift cards now.

  • Am I eligible if I pay with a woolworths gift card?

    • +1

      I highly doubt it.

      • It is against the terms and conditions of a Woolworths Supermarket gift card (or any other gift card issued by Woolworths Group, including WISH gift cards) to use them to pay for gift cards.

      • If you scan a gift card to purchase, go to the payment screen, select Gift Card as a payment method and swipe/scan/enter a gift card issued by Woolworths Group, you should get an Items Not Allowed error (or something along those lines).

      • If you attempt to use Everyday Pay as a payment method in a transaction where you trying to purchase a gift card and go to the payment screen, you should get an Items Not Allowed error (or something along those lines). You are not able to use Everyday Pay to purchase any gift cards, even if your Everyday Pay payment source is merely a bank card.

Feel free to give it a go to see whether Woolworths have screwed something up and have accidentally opened a loophole, because you never know…

    • Nope

  • Restaurant Card or the Fork Gift card with 10% off?

    • The former

  • I am aware of restrictions on ShopBack Supermarket gift cards at Woolworths, but I can personally confirm that I was able to use one today to buy some TCN Restaurant Cards.

    • I was able to as well.
However I’m having difficulty adding more ShopBack supermarket to my iPhone and my mom’s iPhone. Keep saying invalid card

      • I am having problems as well.

      • it triggered sth. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14092575/redir
        had to use another phone.

        • I used my mom's iphone and that one failed as well after 4 cards. But not quite worth it to get android phone just for wallet…

          • @RTY: yes for 2.5% not too worth and impact feeling to see such error :)

if u never used android, I have to remind same thing would be also triggered
I had google pay blocked after added 2 cards, then spent more than 3months to get unlocked with ID to upload for verify.
such painful, then after unlocked, I didn't use at all :)

        • https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/optus-x-st… do you think this would work? I'm not familiar with android phones

  • Can I use the TCN HIM Card at The Good Guys? The Good Guys is not on the list of retailers on the card package.

    • +1

At the time of writing this comment, the TCN Him gift card webpage lists The Good Guys as a participating retailer of the TCN Him gift card.

The Good Guys was only added to the TCN Him gift card in late March 2023, so it is very likely that the gift cards you were looking at were manufactured before The Good Guys was added as a participating retailer.

You should not be treating the physical gift card packaging as the source of truth for participating retailers of TCN Him gift cards, because the TCN Him gift card terms and conditions includes the following:

      2. This Card is an eftpos prepaid gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at participating retailers listed on The Card Network website.

In other words, to determine the participating retailers, you need to look at the TCN website, not the physical packaging. By extension, if The Good Guys logo one day disappears from the TCN Him gift card webpage, it means that the TCN Him gift card is no longer redeemable at The Good Guys, regardless of whether The Good Guys logo may or may not be on the physical packaging.
