  • I know these aren't super expensive, international flights or anything but could anyone comment on Jetstar's reliability these days? Are they still cancelling flights last min? Planning to do a weekend trip to Melbourne with my wife and an infant, just not bothered to deal with any cancellations and delays etc as it will be the first time we fly (anywhere) since our son was born.

      Give jetstar a miss

The latest stats on cancellations/reliability compared to other Australian airlines: https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_month

in June at least, Jetstar had a lower cancellation rate and ontime rating than Virgin.

Overall though, Rex is the most ontime and reliable of the 'major' airlines on that route.

comment on Jetstar's reliability these days?

      It's crap.

Lots of people I know have had huge delays.

They've also just cancelled their Darwin flights for October.

      Purchase at own risk…

    • I’ve flown Jetstar to Uluru and Qld lately, and had no issues.

The biggest problem I found was scumbags trying to bring carry-on luggage in excess of their allowance. Held things up, but I do understand that Jetstar is a budget airline so they have restrictions.

Other than that, no issues on my end! And $100s cheaper than Virgin/Qantas.

    • Do Jetstar book you on Qantas if they cancel and don't have any other flights departing in a reasonable time or are you left waiting for the next Jetstar even if it's a while away?

wish you had similar deals on March 2024?

    • +11

I don't control the airlines, alas (yet) ;)

    • The link is directly to the airline's website… what exactly are you hoping that OzBargain forum members will do for you?

Probably easier if you wished OP gave you $1 million

That way, you would be able to buy flights without caring about sales

Can we get prices updated with the actual minimal costs for fights ie. including seat booking and fees

Sorry to be clueless here, can someone explain what the cause/what's going on with the flight cancellations? Is it airlines not booking enough so just cancelling the half-empty flights?

And I've seen routes have been entirely wiped out too. Syd - Tsv on virgin no longer exists?

      A few reasons:
      - low staffing levels, meaning illness to crew members (and hour limits)/baggage handling crew directly impacts ability to fly
      - reduced backup planes and crew, meaning a maintenance issue causes flight cancellations
      - protection of landing slots with flights sold that were most likely not to fly
      - air traffic control absenteeism

      • Ah thanks for that! So a lot of this boils down to understaffing across the board?
The protection of landing slots is an interesting one, that's just bulls*** by them if they aren't gonna fly..

5 out of the last 6 legs i've booked with Jetstar have been cancelled. 4 domestic and 1 international. I don't care if they get to 100% on time and no cancellations, i will never fly with them again. Just paid an extra $160 to fly MEL>SYD on Qantas over Jetstar and it wasn't cancelled. Such a novelty.

Do you know they were cancelled? Sounds extreme and a real shame you had to go through that.

Were any of them due to the crazy guy who threatened he had a bomb? I had a cancelled flight due to that…

      • Were you on the Malaysia flight out of Sydney last week?

        • +2

          No, thankfully!

But was affected by all the cancellations that followed because of it. That guy should have to pay for the economic damage he caused

          • @wormarts: Yikes, yeah not good. At least good you weren't on it, regardless on the actual threat of it, I'm sure a lot of people left that plane with a healthy dose of trauma.

    • What happens if Jetstar cancels an international flight? Eg with Qantas aside from their own flights they can rebook you on partner airlines, with Jetstar is it just next Jetstar or nothing? What if Jetstar cancel a route, again with enough complaining you can get Qantas to put you on a partner airline, with Jetstar are you just refunded or do they actually try find you a solution? Not a big deal for domestic with so many flights, but for international it seems risky if they cancel flights even with a decent amount of notice it will still likely be more expensive to book elsewhere the closer it is to flight date.

  • What happens when Jetstar cancel their scheduled domestic flight ? i never had one in past but i got two booked in coming months.

  • Perth left the chat.
