      I'm flip

      • -1

        def flip

  • How much at Samsung education store?

    • Still a better deal from edu or corporate portals, $2079.20 for the device alone.

      • +2

Plus battery pack and one year Samsung Care+ using UNFOLD coupon

    • +8

What do you expect when you get a crap phone made by a crap brand with low resale value?

      Try selling it privately then.

      • -3

Doesn't really matter what brand as long as it's an Android it'll have crap resale, it's just the reality regardless of quality

    • +5

      LOL WTF is a Zefone?

You negged the deal which is a good deal, because your random phone isn't trade eligible? C'mon man

Also with $500 bonus trade in credit and a $300 giftcard, aren't you basically getting $1100 by trading in? $300 phone trade in + $500 bonus trade in + $300 giftcard?

      • +9

        Must be German

        “Answer Zefone!”

    • They'll only give $35 for my old 512 GB note. But this is $500 trade in bonus on top. So I would be getting $535, which is miles better than I'd ever get on the used market. Lol

If I was buying a phone at the Fold prices, I'd want 4-5 years of use from it. And unsure if Samsung has their durability upto scratch?

      • I don’t think there is a phone on the market that will be up-to-date for 5 years?

        • What do you mean? Samsung, google, and Apple are supporting their phones for at least 5 years with operating system updates.

          • @Ronnnie: 5 years is for security updates only from what I remember, not OS.

            • @Trishool: 4 major operating system version guaranteed with Samsung. So it's essentially 5 years of support. Google only guarantee 3 from what I recall, apple you get at least 5.

    • +1

I think he means Zenfone from ASUS. It's a decent phone.

      • +1

I think everybody knows exactly what he meant. Doesn't change the fact that it's a crap brand with low resale value ;)

        • +2

Its neither of those things to be honest. The phone is very highly reviewed.

    • -1

Comparing a tiny phone, with crappy resale value that tanks in less than 1 year, against a flagship dual screen foldable.

      Lol, ok.

  • +1

Combine it with telstra $900 off offer if your company pays for a sim plan.

But I reckon, Samsung offer is still better

    • +2

if u do full trade in and the gift card offer this is far better, $2600 -300 -500 -900, ends up being 900 - what ur phones worth, i got my S23U by trading in my note 10+ for $300+tradein so this wouldve been $600

    • What is this $900 you speak of?

      • free $900 gift card for $99/m plan.

        24 month though

        • Where is this deal @b0b0?

          • @killabob: It's on JB hifi website when I checked over the weekend.. $99 for 24m plan to get $900 gift card is quite steep I thought. Didn't think it was a deal worth sharing 🤣

  • +12

On what planet is spending $1800 on a mobile phone a "deal"?!

    • +10

The same planet where said phone is $2599 normally…

        • Me personally, no. But horses for courses… I'm sure some people will use that to justify the purchase.

      • +6

where said phone is $2599 normally

If you've looked at samsung sales over the past few years you'd know these original price quotes are worthless and the difference in used market prices is a reflection of that. People who pay full original prices instead of waiting for sales are goofy and are the reason samsung raise prices this high to begin with. Especially considering sales come pretty soon after launch dates.

        • +2

yep exactly. Samsung is one manufacturer you shouldn't buy a phone full price from. There are a dime and a dozen ways to get the phone cheaper with very little effort. My mate bought the Fold 3 for $3000 new and I just couldnt stop cringing at the idea of that!

        • Not soon. Its almost 30-40% off on day one.

    • +4

I'm thinking at this point in time between Samsung and Apple. They're competing who can validate for the bigger gonads for more expensive phones.

    • +13

Same planet where you buy a tiny 2 bedroom town house for $1million

    • +3

it's not marketed towards people like you :)

      • -1

Youd be surprised. I would argue that Most of the people globally who own lets say iphones for example, probably shouldnt have budget for it.
People are spending beyond their means. Even westerners. Havent you ever notice that the same people who claim to be behind on their mortgage payments or are struggling with childcare payments all have flashy phones and the latest model cars.
People are going to buy these things, no matter their financial situation, because of social status. I think the number of people who can truly afford these things is mich lower than most realise. And some of the people here complaining about the price can actually afford it in the same manner that those living pay check to pay check can, they are just smarter thats all.

        • We have 1 car, 7 year old also iPhones, iPad etc big difference between 3-4K on tech that’s supported for many years and a cab4 “destroyer” @100k

          • @revmacca: Someone downvoted my most. Look let me make it shorter. All i am saying is these phones are consiersbly less affordable than even the sales figures suggest. Many people are spending beyond their means to buy them. Not saying you are or that weslthy people do not exist. But smartphones are hardly a luxury item. You would think they are, but that is not the case. Because they have social value, people dont care if they cant afford it. Which is why companies like samsung and apple are happy to contonue hiking prices. The idea that they are targeted at the rich or wealthy is a foolish notion.

    • You can get a good deal on a foldable mobile phone and save $1731 over this deal. Might be missing a few features though.

      • missing just a few features :)

    • For at least the 40 people upvoted the deal. I see people spending $2K for an office chair or $8K for a massage chair and they call it a bargain too.

    • Apparently the same planet as spending $7000 on a home coffee machine…

  • +1

The pricing deals on the Fold 5 have been pretty decent this year IMO… Edu store is still the best with trade in bonuses/etc but this JB deal (assuming you value JB gift cards) is pretty close behind.

    • +1

Yeah for my particular scenario (using an old iPhone XS) for trade in with both JB and Samsung EDU, it was within $100 which is pretty good from JB since its available to everyone

  • The bonuses alone are more than I'm prepared to spend on a phone.

I don't understand how anyone can justify $1800 on a phone. These prices are seriously out of control.

Like, are you really getting 3x the function out of these phones vs something like the Pixel 7?

    • Samsung have somewhat of a monopoly on folding phones. Every other foldable in comparison has major drawbacks.. either hardware or software(which samsung have almost perfected). Until other manufacturers make decent foldables, samsung have little motivation to drop prices. It's also the reason why not much has changed compared to the fold 4. Apple did file patents for their own future foldables so that might change hopefully. Samsung are probably just milking the market as much as they can till then.

    • +2

I thought along the exact same lines until I managed to get jbhifi to price match the Samsung edu store and then pay with discounted tcn/ultimate gift cards, bringing the price just under $1500 in 2021 for the Z fold 3. I have never looked back since, for that size screen realestate that fits in your pocket is mind blowing. Yes the inside screen protector has started bubbling up/de-laminating, but any of the Samsung stores will re-apply a new one on the spot free of charge. I've had it done twice.
TL;DR: I'm gonna have major issues if I ever have to transition back to the likes of a candy bar phone like the pixel 7.

      sent/typed on a Samsung Z fold

      • Yeah, I still don't see the value in spending 3x the price on a phone that I have to constantly repair. Not exactly selling it for me.

        • Yeah, I still don't see the value

It seems you're more looking for an excuse against it. Swinging briefly by a Samsung store once a year is a non-issue. Even if you didn't, it's not the biggest deal. It's just aesthetics, you tend to stop noticing it on everyday use. Very similar to a screen protector on a candybar that becomes scratched up over the course of a year, go get it fixed or put up with it…

Also if you're spending 3x the price on this phone, I think you need to hand in your ozbargain licence. But you do you, I'll continue to enjoy this cutting edge technology.

          • +1

@shkippy: The Pixel 7 could be had for $499 (128GB) or $570 (256GB) recently. That makes this "deal" MORE than 3x the price. That's a lot of extra money for a form factor. But hey, as you say, you do you.

      • +1

Thanks for providing an actual USER review.

My neighbour has one and he uses it on the train, says watching videos while taking notes is an amazing productivity method for learning. And looking at it straight on, there is no crease. And this newer one supposedly has minimal crease at all with a different folding mechanism.

  • +5

Too expensive. Phones that are 2 years old can do the same things as this and can be purchased for under $1000

    • +3

      $1000 for the phone
      $800 for bragging rights.

    • +1

The Fold 3 is very similar to the Fold 5.

I have read too many issues with the inner display on the fold 3 to consider one. Hopefully the Fold 5 is more durable in that respect

      • +1

Jerry Rig said so himself after demolishing the phone.

    • You're not supposed to drop facts like that to upset the fanboys around here.

    • Same thing with laptops.

  • Does the 500$ bonus credit remains if you don't send your device in?

    • Yes but the trade in amount is obviously debited to you or technically now, they just don't refund it.

They used to not debit you the trade in value of your phone and instead just debit the card for that amount if you never sent it in

Now they charge the tradein amount up front, and refund it once they receive your phone. So don't send in the phone and you just don't get that amount refunded, but the trade in bonus credit isn't impacted

  • +1

I am waiting for the samsung $1499 deal + trade in value + bonuses. Set you back for around $600~ as opposed to $1799

    • -3

Can feel it around the corner as Iphone 15 usb-c killing feature is coming vely vely sooon

    • When did you ever find a deal with 50%off and trade in?

      • Probably when the fold 6 is announced. I got the s22 for $450 and my sister got the flip 4 for $300. Both traded in $200 phones and then bonus on top.

  • +1

Wait 3 months and get it for the discounted price less jumping over hoops, trading in your soul for an overpriced flippity flop fone.

    • +1

Thats my plan. Hoping for black friday deal. Hodling with s21 ultra

      • +1

Smart plan. Me too. I have the flop Z 3 and will sell mine for a small price and still be in front.

  • Given you can get a high quality 65inch OLED LG, $2799 for a phone is just ridiculous. I get you are paying for the software but cmon man.. should be like $1999 tops to begin with. And they would still be making $1500.

    • +2

Yeah seems ridiculous when you compare it to that scenario. However, if you compare a phone that is fairly cutting edge in terms of its form factor vs regular 'candybar' phones and then consider Apple charge $2000+ for iPhone 14 Pro Max's which aren't on the cutting edge, it seems a bit less ridiculous! LOL

      • +1

You just wait until all the hype is gone. Usually 3 - 6 months. All the Beta testing is done by the initial release from purchasers and bugs reported. Then you'll get the less problematic flop flip fone after fix for a lesser price. It's no apple therefore price retention is not strong.

    • -1

TV stays on the wall, you carry your phone everywhere and use multiple times a day.

    • -1

The CPU in the phone is probably much more powerful than what is used in the tv. The TVs barely cope with the os.

  • Yeah software may have some tweaks but Android is open systems. Free.

  • +10

A phone worth $1,799……. Priced at $2,599……..Deals and Vouchers bring it down to $1,799 i.e. the price that should be at the first place………. And everyone thinks its a good deal….!!!
No offence to anyone but thats my personal opinion.
Those who don’t agree don’t need to negate my comment.

    • Not everyone, actually. That's why they keep doing promotions and promotions

  • Anyone know the good old trade in to get $500, but not send the actual phone trick still work for this ?

    • +1

No someone wrote that they will autodebit you upfront and will refund you the value if their valuation team pass your original condition check.

  • $2599 used to be the price of a 'Can it run Crysis' rig, wonder what the nano phones of the future will cost?

  • @inthemoney114 This seems to be for 512GB and 1TB.

  • Also offer on Flip 5 512GB for $200 GC

  • Doesn't the bonus $300 GC end on 14 Aug and not 17 Aug?

  • +2

Thank god for edu store, got mine for $1270 with trade in bonus, plus a year care.

    • +1

Care to share the details how you got the deal , thx

      • +1

Starting price is $2079 per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790306
Trade in bonus is only $200 (vs normal store which was $500) = $1879
Less whatever the trade in value of your device is… = net amount to pay.

The 1 Year Samsung care+ is included on all preorder purchases (which I think ran up until 20/8?)

  • Have the Fold 4 and it is a great phone, may upgrade to the Fold 7 because It's my lucky number and birthday day if they put a digitiser in the front screen and make it larger like the Honor Magic V2. If It's completely dust proof by then It'll be worth it.

  • How much is this on Edu store. I'm sure it will still be expensive….

  • -4

I'm a Samsung fanboy but the only people who use these big folding phones appear to be couch masturbators.

  • I am tempted by that big screen but I worry about how hardy that screen will have to be to handle being opened 5000 times or is it meant not to last long. I need a break from iPhone and useless battery life on my 1 year old phone.

    • Saw this article which is quite promising: https://www.phonearena.com/news/galaxy-z-flip-5-hinge-durabi…

So let's say that you plan on keeping your Galaxy Z Flip 5 for three years. At 401,146 cycles, you'd be able to open and close your Flip 5 over 360 times a day or 15 times every hour of every day before the screen might be expected to fail based on Mrkeybrd's testing. Or looking at it another way, if you fold and unfold your Galaxy Z Flip 5 100 times a day, the device would be expected to last nearly 11 years.
