It appears to be a replica.

  • Is it made with real leather or synthetic?

        Why not Australian leather?

        • +3

          cow racist

          • +9

@Churna: I want to keep Australian cows in jobs….

          • @Churna: should be kangaroo

        • Because slaughtering cows and processing their skin with cheap labor is better for the bottom line.

        • Should be vegan leather, they go through the balls quickly.

          • +1

            @G-rig:

            Should be vegan leather

            All cows are vegan.

            • @jv: Exactly

            • @jv: Not in the days of Mad Cow Disease, they were cannibals

  • Seems to get poor reviews, a related product on Amazon, also ships and sold by Amazon and also manufactured by Russell Corp (the same as this listing if you scroll all the way down) shows the “leather” coming apart in a few reviews with photos.

    • +12

Awful. They should write a letter of complaint directly to the seven year old in India that made the ball.

I reckon most people who leave the bad reviews didn’t pump it up enough. Or they just suck at kicking the ball and taking out their frustrations with a bad review lol

  • +2

the genuine balls do change shape a bit after kicking them for a bit, its why players "kick in" the balls that are to be used for the games at a training session during the week before a game, I reckon these will be very similar

    • Interestingly, that was an innovation of one B. Fevola.

  • I find the yellow balls to be far inferior to the red balls. The paint used makes them quite slippery. I'd say they'd probably use inferior leather too given it's painted rather than dyed.

  • +1

Before they went super cheap, K-Mart used to sell official match ball replicas for $80ish dollars which was far better than Rebel Sport who charged $120-$180 depending on the "version" of the ball.

  • Don't trust these anymore, 50/50 whether you get one that can keep its shape for a few weeks. At least you can return it with Amazon.

  • $15.99 here…

This is the same one West Coast Eagles use for training…

    • As others have stated, these ones from Amazon are leather and better quality. Yes you could buy 3-4 from Catch for this price but quality is less.

    • +11

      Would explain their season.

    • No it is not.

Easy to kick one of the most successful interstate teams in AFL history while they are down though.

        • They do not use synthetic balls for training. That isn't even the same ball in the photo?

          • @hypie:

They do not use synthetic balls for training.

Maybe that's why they are losing every week?

That isn't even the same ball in the photo?

They add the logos after purchase.

            • @jv: No, the losing every week has to do with this.

              Tanking

              • @hypie: Harley Reid has already told the club he's not going to WA.

    • Is size 4 good for a kick around by ones self?

  • +1

    Are Sherrin's susceptible to counterfeits?

    • Not from Amazon surely

      • Amazon is susceptible to counterfeits. Amazon mixes stock from multiple market place sellers. I won’t buy board games from Amazon due to the risk of fakes.

        • Not if it's sold by Amazon. The marketplace ones won't say that

          • @blighst: Marketplace stock is mixed with Amazon stock. When buying from Amazon.com.au there's no way to know which seller is actually providing the stock citation. Sure Amazon will refund or replace without much issue but I find it less hassle to just buy from a reputable board game seller.

            • +1

@sween64: The way I read that is that FBA stuff is all comingled, and stuff sold by Amazon is separate.

Either way, I have not heard of counterfeit Sherrins floating around

              • @blighst: I haven’t heard of counterfeit Sherrins either and that’s why I asked. The cheap price had me curious though.

Hmmm I’m not sure about only FBA stock being co-mingled. That might be correct. I’d still avoid Amazon for BGs to be sure.

Finally, Uno Flip fakes sold in AU via Amazon. Not sure who the OG seller was.

                • +1

The cheap price had me curious though.

Well the balls are back to $80-90 now, so you can get one :).

Anyone know whether these are comfortable for casual kicking around with sneakers (rather than needing proper footy boots)? I've bought some other AFL footballs over the years that are "foot breakers", and the pain aint nice. Would like it to be leather, and not rubber or PVC type thing. Many Thanks.

      Hi princess….

      • +2

You're the master of useful comments as usual! If I am a princess, I am fine with that, troll all you want. If anyone has any advice to offer on my original question, would be much appreciated.

Leather footy's are all the same

Either don't pump them too much, or use boots.

          (or fill with helium gas)

    • +1

What I would usually do, in winter I just won't pump them up as much. But generally speaking, rubber ones wouldn't hurt as much if you just want to do a casual kick

      • Yep, getting the inflation right is a good point.

        • +1

          Tell that to Albo…

      • I used to pump them up so there was little to no give when pressing your fingers into the ball. These days I allow a little bit for the extra oomph + distance while kicking. We used to kick Sherrins and Kookaburra footys barefoot in the Vickick/Auskick days…. GOOD TIMES!!

I'd recommend getting the next size down, size 4 - the AFLW size. Hurts less and is better for casual kicking and catching.

It's true the full size ball (size 5) is not well suited to kicking in park with sneakers when fully pumped to the recommended pressure. I ended up buying different sizes, and the smaller ones were more popular at the park for young and old.

      • Many thanks for the info! Is there any particular brand/model you'd recommend?

        • What do you mean "brand/model"?

We are talking about Sherrin footballs, not mobile phones!

Get whatever size you want, but size 4 and even size 3 are better for the park and casual kicking, more fun.

          • @cerealJay: There are different models .. e.g. Wizard, etc. All good, thanks again for the info.

            • +1

@noz: I see what you mean. After doing 5 min of research, there is no easy answer because it depends on how much you want the premium leather and official version of the ball, and what your use case is.

Even with premium leather balls, you still need to boot it around a fair bit to soften it up.

Here's some information I found you might find useful, (from reddit).

              • Replica balls are made from imported leather, which is of average quality, and the stitching is nowhere near as good. Replica will be a bit hard and pointy at first but will last you a lot longer and feel pretty consistent off the boot. They usually last me about 8-9 months of 2-3 hours a week kicking.
              • The Match, KB and Official Game balls are of higher quality, which is reflected in the price.
              • The Match is made to be kicked for 2 hours a week for a couple of weeks and that's it. Because its a lot softer, it loses its shape pretty quickly and isn't ideal for a training ball.
              • There are three types of leather used in the higher end Footies. Your top line, official game ball is made from Bottom belly cow hide, which is softer but also a higher grade of leather.
              • 'KBs' are made from top belly leather, which is slightly harder than the official game balls, but not overly noticeable.
              • 'Match Balls' are made from shoulder leather, which is the hardest of the top line footballs, and may have some noticeable discolouration, but the shape and cut is still perfect.
              • @cerealJay: Many thanks @cerealJay .. excellent information. (Didn't expect you to do such research for me, was asking more from your own experience - but greatly appreciate that info, very helpful!)

      • good advice, thanks!

  • This colour scheme was modelled after maccas??

  • Not a KB. Not a deal!

Damn too slow, seems to be out of stock as only showing as $79.99
