  • I don't need this. Do not hit buy. I don't need this. DO NOT HIT BUY!!

      2 is better than 4

How do you figure that? Although 2 does reduce problems, if a bios flash or QVL says it's ok, i'd go 4 every time. It depends on what motherboard you're using it with really.

        • +3

Even if it's on the QVL list, it can be more stressful on the CPUs IMC compared to two.

    • This is a matched kit. Although two of the kits you linked are unlikely to have issues together, a matched kit is generally considered preferable.

  • I don't have 4 ram slots though, but i want to buy this.

  • Hmm - on the fence here - someone convince me

    8700k @ 5.2Ghz - EK monoblock
    Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 Z370
    16GB Trident Z RGB 3000mhz CL18 @ 3400mhz CL17
    1080ti FE - EK block

I have found someone locally with 16GB of 3200mhz Trident Z RGB which would be ideal since it's cheaper then this.

My only big concern is that I don't think an 8700k will handle 4 sticks at 4000mhz well. I think 3600 in itself is a push for 4 sticks, especially at 5.2GHz..

I don't think it's worth jumping up 200mhz for the ram. Realistically and practically speaking, it is for your own mental sake so you can feel good about yourself. If that's fine with you, then more power to you; I understand that feeling and sometimes it's worth the spend. But I think you'd be fooling yourself if you can discern any noticeable improvement from that upgrade (see Youtube fps benchmarks specifically testing ram speeds).

I've thought about it myself, since my system is nearly identical to yours:
      8086k
      z370n itx
      2x8gb Trident Z rgb 3200mhz cl16
      gtx1080

I decided against it and just upgrade properly later.

      • I mean it's 400MHz if you want to talk double data rate, was moreso doing it for having 32GB as I find that 16GB is getting a bit of a struggle sometimes.

Thinking I'll try and get some matching Trident Z RGB and play around with that. My other thought was getting this and offloading the RAM I have since I can overclock and play around with this.

  • Is 4000 an official standard? I thought 3200 was fastest?

    • Kingston's Fury Renegade DDR4 is high-end memory rated for up to 5333MHz and CL20, making it one of the fastest kits of DDR4 available. It's incredible to see how far manufacturers have been able to push DDR4 since it came out nearly a decade ago. It started at 2,133MHz and now the fastest kits get over 5,000MHz.

      • Hmm, Wikipedia article on DDR4 only lists standards 1600 thru 3200…

        • +1

Those are JEDEC standards. The typical "gaming" memory kit that you buy retail (say 3200MHz CL16) is more likely JEDEC-certified to run at like 2000-something and it has an XMP profile which overclocks it to the frequency and timings that it is marketed as

  • Nothing beats these as Yet https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788362 2x16gb ddr4 @3600 CL16 and only takes 2 slots

  • Where's the RGB? Buh humbug! 0

    • Some folks don't like the unicorn poopy/vomit in their rigs…. Although it's bloody simple enough to just turn it off lol (but they don't think to do that)

      • Without RGB, the rig is slow as molasses and as old fashioned as their owners lol

        • RGB has its place in some rigs, especially if they're on display for others to see. All of my fans are argb but have them all turned off. No point having mine on because i don't look at my rig when gaming.
