Keep in mind that you won't get many OS updates unless you root your device. You might be fine for a couple of years only.

Last time I checked Motorola phone were locked down with no custom ROMs .
      Malicious obsolescence.

      • They aren't locked down. You can unlock the bootloader using Motorola's annoying process that can take 5-6 day to activate. I've unlocked my Moto G82.

But you're correct in that there are very few custom ROMs available for Motos, I suspect because they make so many models and variants that the community is too fragmented.

Also super annoying is that once you unlock the bootloader, over the air updates stop working. They block you from updating, the pricks. I think it's possible to flash the new official ROM manually but haven't yet attempted.

        • Or relock the bootloader…

    Currently receiving regular security updates.

    Device launched on February, 2022

Security updates will stop on February, 2025

  • same price as few weeks ago

  • Better than a pixel 7?

    • except in camera and OS updates.

    • Look up the issue with the P7 screen not responding. My record is 9 screen touches to get a song to play. Not sure it's as "fixed" as G wants everyone to believe.

  • Or a Samsung S10+?

I wouldn't bother. Reception is terrible with Spotify regularly claiming no internet access at all, all across Melbourne. Someone mentioned previously on here about the crappy signal strength and how they immediately returned theirs, of course I ignored the post and went ahead anyway. Yeah it is infuriatingly bad, usually showing between zero and 20% signal strength at any given time. Messing with preferred network types doesn't help, all the G's are terrible.

No idea about the single sim model, I have this dual sim version. This is just my experience, I'm sure others will say they have no issues.

    • Which carrier?… I switched from Telstra to Optus a while back and had similar "no internet issues" on an s21 ultra. Went back to telstra and the issues ceased.

      • Vodafone.

          Well there's ya problem

        • I'm guessing you haven't tried a different carrier SIM in your Motorola, or a different device with your vodafone SIM in the same physical area? I'd highly recommend trying this if possible before you write off the device.

    • I have the Edge 30 ultra and yeah bad signal strength (with a thick case though). I switched to 3G and that helped. I am home 99% of the time on wifi so that doesnt matter too much.

The 125W charger on the ultra is amazing. 65W on the Pro should be pretty good too

I think the OPPO Find X5 Lite is a better buy, you get double internal storage with SD cards and 3.5 Jack.

  • Isn't this a better deal at half the price

Guys bear in mind this Motorola have probably the worst processor ever created by Qualcomm: Snapdragon 8 gen 1. That means you will get very poor battery life and could run hot in some tasks. A GOOD Processor on a smartphone is a MUST ! and this phone doesn't tick that box. Plus forget the amazing build quality of top devices. This feels like absolutely piece of plastic. And it is. Camera on paper should be amazing (same camera as Huawei P50 pro) but In fact it's not. Pretty average photos except for selfies !! Selfies are good.
I also had bad reception with this device.

PS. Yes I had it that's why I'm talking.

That's not the 808 or 810, which were so hot it melted the solder and caused bootloop issues on various phones in that gen. The 8G1 is already a huge improvement over the 888, and its just a Samsung foundry issue anyway, you just don't really hear people complaining about Exynos (as much) because they end up gaslighting themselves "its a Samsung it can't be bad I must be imagining it".

But yeah, avoid anything with Samsung SoC. 8G1+ at least, or wait for more 8G2 to come out on local market, or 7G2 (cut down 8G1+)

      • +1

Correct. But I would not buy myself a 8gen1 anyway. It's bad ! Battery life for me it's important. And phones with 8gen1 have very poor battery life. ;)

  • Oh snap… i bought the single sim 3-4 days ago… can i still change it? Opened the box and started the phone

I just came here to say I appreciated your use of the word cattledog. A favourite of mine.

  • This is the new regular price and won't go up to $999 any more.

    • Link says $999 now.
