It is less expensive than other shops, but I still won't call this as cheap.
good price, so expect the AS11 to be released later this year.
I'm happy with my AS10, and see no need to replace or upgrade.
Any deals on masks?
I too would like to know if there's deals on further masks.
@Pacman92 OP can you come back and make an offer to the OZB community? :)
I'm finishing week 3 or a 4 week CPAP trial course after doing a sleep study and finding out I have severe sleep apnea (38 AHI, 32 year old non-smoking athletic male, go figure). I like the machine they have me on but it's very expensive (Lowenstein Prisma SMART Max) How does this one compare? I like that I can turn on/off the Lowenstein from the app.
I trialled that and the resmed 10 and F&P SleepStyle. Prisma was very quiet, preheating function was handy. It and the resmed have auto start which the f&P doesn't but there is a updated f&P "plus" on the way which will auto start.
I ended up getting F&P a couple of weeks ago from this same place. The trick with the resmed and f&P and their Darth Vader noise is to put them close to the floor (well, lower than head height) and face the air intake away from you.
You should be able to trial the other machines and i would certainly say you should do this. Your health insurance may cover some of the cost.
I usually use the top drawer of bedside table to put the machine and the power brick. The hose will keep a gap for air circulation. I also use a piece of rubber as stop. Took about 10 mins to clean and setup the table and drawer but very quiet and neat.
Not sure about the therapy, but the forum says that Lowenstein data cannot be sent to Oscar. Various comparisons don't reveal any particular advantage over ResMed.
I personally use ResMed Autosense 10 and I am more than happy with it. Huge user bse, data imports to Oscar or ResScan, plenty of service centers…
I went from initial AHI of 87 to 4.5 stright away, I am on average AHI 0.9 now.
Lowenstein have their own software. Demonstrably better control in their algorithm too. Higher spec pump.
Unfortunate, same here. 24 non-smoking, non-drinking, athletic (enough) with 30AHI. Looking around on starting a CPAP trial.
Find one or two places nearby and give them a call. Ask about what you actually can trial as some places won't let you trial masks - they will only sell them - and you may find some mask types impossible to use or at least very difficult. Similarly some won't let you try different machines for a few weeks at a time or will be very hesitant to let you try a different brand at all.
Resmed 'trial' experience is pretty good. You can set it up online (but still do it in person if there's a location near you). They'll ship it out to you quickly. That's the Airsense 10 Auto, a pillow mask, and full mask.
Keeping in mind you're paying about 10% per month on the value (based $35 a week vs the kind of street price in this deal). Very convenient for trying it out though.
@rodericb & @Banj0
Thanks for the replies and information. This will help me get started, appreciate it very much :)
You wont be using the app to turn on and off after a while. You will just push the button on the unit itself. My airsense 10 has myAir app. I used it often in the beginning when it was 'fun' or 'cool'. Now I hardly use it. Cpap will become part of ur life. Choose reliability and parts as factors, not the app bells and whistles.
I like that I can turn on/off the Lowenstein from the app.
How exactly are you sleeping? Are you holding onto your phone in your hand and falling asleep with it? I would hate to think you are deciding on what machine to buy based on this factor.
The machine hose is required to be a short distance to the machine, meaning that you'll always be close enough to reach out and touch a button. It's like hitting an alarm clock when you wake up. Having an app to do this honestly is a nice but not needed requirement.
What you should be caring about is buying a machine that is performant & comfortable, helps you understand your therapy & then improve your sleeping habits/health.
A good example would be machines that are supported by OSCAR, a free PC/MacOS app that helps you analyse your own CPAP data.
This will give you the data you need to start improving your sleep dynamically yourself without visits to a sleep technician ($/time). The Lowenstein Prisma is not supported & as a result I'd not be recommending it for now, frankly — app or not.
I merely listed a feature important to me. Of course advanced therapeutic function is crucial, I would think that the two are not mutually exclusive.
I appreciate the in depth advice, though.
mate, I'm in the same boat. My AHI was 79 and after using ResMed came down to 20. So was told to try PRISMA 20A and it further came down to 9~11.. But now I am confused. Should I go with ResMed or buy Prisma 20A.. Obviously there is a $1000 diff.
Any suggestions pls?
GP told me that Prisma is german brand, more sophisticated, less trouble but parts are expensive where as ResMed is relatively cheaper, lot of support, easy to use software to self assess your AHI however bit worried about the AHI treatment with ResMed.
Which one should I go with? Cconfused
Well it's hard to say without knowing the settings both machines were on.
My 'script' for a CPAP machine said a recommended 9cmH2O pressure, I watched the data through Oscar and noticed I was still having apneas. I had the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset machine so I just set it to maximum of 20cmH2O and set it to auto and noticed the machine was going as high as 17cmH2O, but my apneas dropped heaps. My AHI is now under 1.
Personally I would just go with the cheaper Resmed by I always suggest paying a bit extra and getting the Autoset machine and just let it work out what you need.
Thanks for the reply. There were hardly any setting changes:
1st week ResMed - Min 6cmH2O to Max 15cmH2O ( AHI was at 20 )
2nd and 3rd week Prisma 20A - Min 7cmH2O to Max 16cmH2O ( AHI came down to 9 )
May be if I use ResMed for say 3-6 months under high pressure, it would pull my AHI down under 5.
what do u reckon?
@smiles: The mask could also be the difference, did you use the same mask for both or did you use the same mask brand as the machine?
You don't happen to have any of the data files do you?
@AdosHouse: I used the same mask all the way for 3 weeks. AHI currently for the last 3 days with Prisma is at 7 , 8 & 11. I do have the data. My OSCAR has ResMed data and Prisma data is on my app.
Planning to go with ResMed device as of now.
@smiles: Well that's interesting. Air pressure is the same no matter which machine you use. It should have been the same.
If those 3 weeks were the first time you ever used a CPAP machine, it's possible that you were just very restless for the first week and possibly breaking the seal. What sore of mask were you using? Full face, nasal, or nasal pillow? Much more likely to break seal with full face.
Certainly wouldn't hurt to rent the Resmed for another week or two.
@AdosHouse: well, I am using a full face mask which has strap bands around forehand and neck. Mask covers both nose and mouth.
I've decided to buy ResMed for now coz I can't afford Prisma. So let's see how it goes.
@smiles: That's fair. I have the Resmed Autoset 10 with the F20 mask. Some night I just get really restless and move a lot, you can see some large leaks in Oscar. I wish I could use a nasal mask but I perpetually have obstructed nostrils. I should really see a ENT about that.
Official Resmed will price match this as well
As they did for me just yesterday. Unit is arriving today. Sorry OP ;-)
can you price match online? or have to go in-store?
You can message them. I just spoke with a rep
Medibank has $500 rebate if you have Hospital cover, so make it down to $850-$900
Partner has this one. Likes that its just one button turn on when its set up.. The water tank is tiny. only lasts one night.
I've switched to a mask that has the hose connection at the top of my head. So much better not having the hose in the way when rolling from side to side.
For those in NSW here's some info about getting a govt supplied machine. I got one a few months ago.
https://www.enable.health.nsw.gov.au/about/publications/fact…
It's quiet, water tank is good, and so far my wife hasn't killed me in my sleep, so yeah, good model. Thumbs up for checking health fund rebate.
Rockingham CPAP is close to this price if it suits better… https://www.rockinghamcpap.com.au/product/resmed-airsense-10…
I just started using Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset, my AHI dropped but the next day I get a really bad headache.
Anyone else had similar issues ? or know why its happening and how to fix ?
Not mask induced?
I have the full face mask, I have been told that I can't use any other as I sleep with mouth open.
I will try and change the size from L to M and see if that makes any difference.
Yeah…opening your mouth with a nose mask is kind of weird. Handy for the aspiring didgeridoo player though.
I've only been doing this a short while, and seems that I'm lucky enough to be going through the night now with a pillow mask - has taken me 9 nights to get to a really good night, and apparently that is decent. Pillow mask was leaving me feeling smothered in the wee hours, but switching to the large pillow seems to have resolved that.
I don't mind the full face mask, but I did find it gave me a slight headache stemming from the bridge of the nose the first couple of times. I'm sure I had asked for a medium mask, but ended up with large. Last time I wore it, it went pretty well though.
I haven't done a sleep survey like most others here…I just know for a fact that I snore like a WWII fighter aircraft sounds (my family reports, and I have heard it on a recording I mistakenly made). My wife has told me that I stop breathing every couple of minutes when she has been awake listening to me on occasion. More recently I have been banished to the spare room because she didn't like a Spitfire in bed. Waking up extremely fatigued and foggy after full night's sleep drove me to get the trial from Resmed. No idea what my AHI was before, but would place it somewhere over 20 (could be 21…could have been 50…I may never know). Machine has almost 100% wiped out the snoring, and it reports an AHI of under 1 most nights (I think it is under-reporting going by the graphs I've been pulling out of it though). All this and I'm on comparatively low pressure (after some tweaking), so I feel a bit lucky, and almost fraudulent when I see the numbers of others! Wife thinks it's worth it for the snoring abatement, and my brain is feeling a little clearer. I didn't really dream much before I started this either, and now it's several dreams every night.
I'm pretty optimistic about this thing. Hope it works out well for you, and you get rid of the headaches. Maybe trying some different masks would be worth it…despite the expense.
You can buy chin straps designed for this purpose, they are quite cheap, https://shop.resmed.com.au/products/chin-strap?variant=44968…
Whats the process involved in getting this? do people go through a doctor/sleep study - or straight to the machine purchase here…
I just bought it and put it on auto. This one ramps pressure automatically if you need it. Main thing is to get a mask that fits and that you like. Medium size has pretty good odds.
Tried to buy it off Sove but their local store wasn't open. Sorry would have liked to support but wanted it immediately.
cheap!
