  • Anything similarly priced from Melb?

    • +3

Air Asia doesn't do that route :/

      • -1

        Why not?

        • +1

Not enough demand, lack of govt approvals for the 5th freedom leg, dont have enough slots, crew planning, not enough aircraft, non profitable.

          • +3

            @AircraftFreight:

            Not enough demand

            I doubt that…

Probably one of the other reasons.

            • @jv: Well Jetstar runs a daily service, sometimes two, Qantas has 4 daily flights and Air New Zealand has got 2 widebodies and 3 narrobodies per day.
Plenty of capacity already, doesnt need another A330 running it.

  • dang thats real good rates. wish the rates were like that from auckland to melbs i got like 3 friends waiting to visit haha :(

    • I mean it's similar from AKL to SYD, and then they could get a cheap rex/jq flight or train/bus down?

  • Any deals for Queenstown/Christchurch please?

    • +1

Not with Air Asia, they don't fly those routes :/ You can always plug in the dates you want on https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/ and see - it'll find the cheapest prices, time and airlines for you!

  • $599 for Business Flatbed Return

    • +2

Random fact - everytime I see your name I get reminded - I get spam almost daily in my gmail that comes from a random email address, and their name is always 'AircraftFreight'. /suspicious ;)

    • I flew the D7 SYD-AKL return with the flat bed earlier this year. It was about the same price as economy on NZ or QF. I was the only person who paid the extra both directions.

Having the room to spread out meant I worked the whole way both directions. It paid for itself. I'd definitely do it again.

      • It's funny how occasionally, on certain routes, business can be almost the same as economy. I've flown 'first' in the US (it's basically up front with an orange juice) for an extra $10, but it gave me access to two lounges with free food.
The one I really kicked myself on was from Ulan Bator to Moscow - people in my hostel were on the same flight, paid basically identical to me on aeroflot, and were in business :/

I learned years ago to always check business class fares, even if for short trips.

My best deal was a few years ago I had to go from London to Kyiv at short notice. The cheapest flight I could find was LHR-FCO-IEV on AZ in business. Economy was full out of Rome. I was the only person in business. I had two flight attendants offering me booze and food every 30 mins. it was ~50GBP cheaper than any other option that worked.

            @skwashd: That's epic!

Actually that reminded me, I had one other, but by accident.

Wanted to get from LA to Cuba. I found a ticket so cheap it was worth my time bussing to Tijuana and then flying.

I got to checkin and in my basic Spanish, struggled as she was explaining to me where the lounge was. I looked at my ticket. "Business".
I checked my original email. No idea how, but I'd found a business class ticket to Cuba for a very low price.

In Tijuana, I was the only person in a fully stocked business lounge!

      • I worked the whole way both directions

What kind of job involves working whilst lying on a bed?

        • +2

There are quite a few. Some of them pay quite well.

        • Hell I get paid on the hour when travelling, and thats in J/F

    • Have you got dates for this? I was just looking in January at it was something like $1220pp rtn.

  • World's best low costs 🤣🤣🤣

Come in Skytrax is highly discredited as been impartial in their ratings.

    • For the prices they charge, they are pretty damn great. I went gold coast to Kuala Lumpur for $400 return a few months back, and in my opinion the value is exceptional.

  • No flights over Xmas unfortunately…

    • They have plenty of flights over Christmas, just not discounted ones. Why would they discount one of the highest demand times of the year?

      • Why would they discount one of the highest demand times of the year?

So we can get a bargain.

Din't know AA flies from Sydney to NZ. is this a stopover flight from Kl to NZ?

    • Air Asia (D7) do fly KUL-SYD-AKL and back …. AA is American Airlines ;)

    Sydney Direct to Auckland

How do the indirect flights go? Through Asia? 🙂

    • Sometimes weirdly via Gold Coast. SYD to CHC especially is often 'cheaper' money wise if not timewise via Wellington or Melbourne too.

  • +1

Took the AA SYD to AKL over Xmas last year, wasn't that much cheaper than the major local airlines after you tack on checked luggage, and the "budget" aspect really showed. Kept the plane roasting at what felt like 26-27C the whole time because they're too cheap to turn on the aircon? Flying with AirNZ this time around..

Before booking, be concious of AirAsia's current financial status. They were recently granted bankruptcy protection, which means they can operate as normal without paying back creditors - relevancy here being that this includes customers and covers both cash and credit refunds.
