        They don't have call centres

The full terms and conditions for this offer can be found here, and it has a very important clause:

    What is an Eligible Merchant?

For the purpose of the Promotion, an Eligible Merchant is a merchant whose merchant category code (“MCC”) is designated as MCC 5541 (being Service Stations).

Revolut is not responsible for designating MCCs and has no control over the same. You acknowledge and agree that we are not responsible for providing you with any advice on whether a purchase made is/will be with an Eligible Merchant and/or regarding MCC codes.

The reasons I think this is important are:

    • If you pay instore at a service station, the MCC should be 5541 (assuming you are not doing cash out). In my experience, I have seen MCC 5541 used for fuel purchases and gift card purchases at Ampol and EG Ampol, and others have seen MCC 5541 for 7-Eleven locations selling fuel.

    • If you use a pay-at-the-pump machine to pay for your fuel (e.g. Costco, unattended Ampol service stations, unattended Shell service stations, unattended United service stations), they should use MCC 5542 and therefore be ineligible for this promotion. You can probably see why I get annoyed at Revolut saying you can go to Ampol, Shell and United and earn cashback when there are some situations where your transaction at Ampol, Shell and United would be ineligible.

    • I have no idea what MCC would be used where you pay for fuel via an app (e.g. Ampol FuelPay, EG Club, BPme).

    • If you make a purchase from a 7-Eleven location that does not sell fuel (e.g. an inner-city convenience store), that should use MCC 5499 and therefore be ineligible.

Just a reminder, Revolut requires your facial recognition data to sign up and last year personal data for 50,000 accounts was stolen. My face was stolen, if you will, as I received a measly "apology" email from the company. Disgusting behaviour.

    • +3

Wow this sucks. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, I had no idea.

    • +10

They should pull a Shopback and give everyone $3. Boom all is forgiven.

    • Out of interest, what date did you receive the email?

I noticed that only something like 0.16% of their global customers were affected by the breach and it said they sent an email to those customers.

      • +1

        September 16th last year.

        • -2

          I see, thanks.

1 month after you received that email that your Revolut data was leaked, on October 20 2022, you then + voted this Revolut deal posted by someone else.

          • -1

@hamza23: I didn't see the email until November, as it initially ended up in my spam. At least Outlook's email filtering system works.

            • @HamBoi69: I see. That is a long time for an email to be in spam (2 months). My Outlook deletes junk mail after 10 days (I think it used to be 30 days).

              • +2

@hamza23: I manually changed it, using this article in 2019.

              • @hamza23: "My Outlook deletes junk mail after 10 days"

I thought that was just for webmail?

    • +3

That’s a no from me then. Absolutely do not consent to this AI/facial recognition and cashless BS being pushed upon us.

    • +1

Revolut requires your facial recognition data to sign up

ANZ Plus also makes you take a selfie during the sign up process.
More and more digital banks are starting to follow suit.

      • I first saw when signing up with Airbnb in 2017. You had to do a selfie to match it to your drivers license. It's complete bs

    • +1

Revolut requires your facial recognition data

But didn't you also give away your face to ANZ? ;)

      • -3

At least that's a physical bank, if you know what I mean….

        • +1

At least that's a physical bank

No, ANZ Plus is a digital only bank. They are trying to follow in the footsteps of Up, (formerly 86400) UBank, etc.

        • Yeah, cause there's never been a data breach from a bank before.
Well aside from Westpac, NAB, the Commonwealth Bank, and ANZ, almost no banks.

I would recommend folk to avoid Revolut
    - Terrible customer service only available via their app.
    - No Australian number for contacting them.
    - They have a habit of just doing whatever they wish to your account involving money.

    • Yeah my account got banned 😭

    • +3

I lost my password. The reset function asks for copies of ID docs, plus a selfie. Rejected 5 times - it seems that their ai algoritmi is convinced that I'm not me. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I've changed address, recently gotten a new licence or just their incompetence. Fortunately, I know that the balance is only $6 as it's not worth wasting any more time trying to get it back and close the account.

  • Can I use this with my 7/11 chopper as well?

    • Will purchase a gift card be eligible?

      • I assume so as long as you purchase it from an MCC5541 vendor

  • Fuel prices are only going to get worse it seems unfortunately. Gonna need a lot more than 20 bucks relieve price pressure soon

  • No deals for existing users… no benefit of continuing to use revolut

  • I mainly use Revolut for deals via VPN . Disposable Virtual card comes handy.

    • Did you loan them your face?

      • That's a requirement to make an account. It's part of their verification process.

    • +2

Just a warning that Revolut's disposable cards, after being locked by yourself and cancelled, can still be charged by merchants.
I've had attempted charges on locked and cancelled cards even more than 1 month after the card had been cancelled!
Luckily I only keep $1 balance, but this has happened more than once.
(Yes, maybe I should have cancelled the subscription; but I honestly forgot, then had attempted $89 charge on my account a month after card had been cancelled.)

      • I always have minimal balance in my Revolut. I transfer whatever it's needed.

        • They have no problems putting your account into negative. I used them for a trip overseas to Central & South America - thinking it would protect myself rather than using my AU cards and save money with the different currencies.. Total headache and useless customer service.

I also used Wise (give you a physical card too), a lot better customer service.

      • That's terrible. The only reason I stayed on their services but I guess I can close it off now since they're not offering any deals other than referral ones

Revolut also wants a selfie when setting up their app on a new phone

just signed up to Revolut to use overseas as a travel card. The exchange rate is about 5-10% better compared to the St George travel card i was planning on using.
Assuming we'll be spending around 10-15k whilst over there, that's a substantial saving. Didn't mind giving away my mugshot as part of the sign up process, actually thought it was pretty clever. My mugshot is also on facebook/instagram/linked in, so i don't really care if it falls into the wrong hands
