I was ordering my regular Hojiblanca and infused EVOO, the former is almost impossible to find in supermarkets and for the latter, most supermarkets don't stock the full infused range.

Anyways, I got distracted and forgot about my order until tonight when I received an email from Cobram offering me a 15% discount . I quickly realised the code is generic, so here you go.

Personally, it's only worth purchasing more than $80 worth of EVOO, as anything under $80 incurs $25 in shipping.

Yes, the regular range of Cobram EVOOs are cheaper on special at Colesworth, but for those with more discerning palates, EVOOs like and First reserve Hojiblanca are 100% worth the spend.

  • What difference does the Hojiblanca make over normal variety?

    • Great question. Firstly, everyone's palate is different, but in short, EVOOs like Hojiblanca impart a wide variety of taste and sensation throughout the eating process, they are meant to be used as an garnishing oil or dipping oil, don't ever even bother do a light fry.

Now, the Cobram website says expect to taste notes of 'freshly cut grass, Green banana, and tropical fruits'. I personally don't taste that at all, for me it's something akin to yellow Kiwifruit and then a light dive into bitterness country. This example given its when dipping sourdough Pane de Casa straight onto the oil, dipping into things like Dukkah impart different flavours.

Now, regular EVOOs can definitely be used for light frying and depending on the intensity of the oil will impart flavours like grapes, butter, 'nuttiness' and probably the one most people are can detect, freshly cut grass, which sounds gross, but I reckon is amazing.

Cobram do host at least one taste session per year, but looking at their website, i think it's just past. Well worth subscribing to their next session as they send you out a whole bunch of samplers, including rancid EVOO and "blended olive oil", to give you a good idea on the difference between good and not so good EVOO.
