Crucial P3 Plus 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD - $154 Delivered @ JW Computers via Kogan

70

Quality, value AND fast SSD. About on par with the prior Amazon price, and if you've got an M.2 slot available it's significantly faster than a SATA SSD.

Might be cheaper from JW directly if you C&C, but I had a Kogan gift card to utilise so this was more useful for myself.

obligatory comment about how this doesn't have a dram cache

obligatory comment about how this will work on a ps5, but it is below the recommended spec

    • Or you could simply leave that to someone else

saving that someone the trouble. im feeling charitable today.

          Bless you

    • so no dram cache doesnt affect its performance?

      • +1

it does for write performance, particularly sustained writes. it makes a pretty big difference. if you're just using this as a games drive or similar tho you'll have no worries.

        • “particularly sustained writes”

Surely once you have used up the cache you are back to DRAM less performance in long writes.

          • @Grok: notably qlc-level performance with this drive.

    If only this was P5

    • +2

      You'd could buy a P2 as well as this one - P3 Plus P2 = P5

😂 😂 Thank you for the advice never thought of that. Problem solved

QLC SSD… and lucky fans of YMTC NAND based SSDs have not posted any comment yet.

QLC SSDs have their uses, but prices on QLC SSDs really should be lowered. After the $56 for 990 Pro 1TB deal, it is hard to get excited on QLC SSDs. SN850X 2TB was discounted around Amazon Prime day ($147).

Definitely a pricing error, hard to expect that ever to come back

      • +2

People got them, also, cheapest 2TB TLC NVMe is $109 before discount code applied. That's before looking at YMTC NAND based SSDs.

$/GB, at this price, it is still subpar for QLC. Also, no matter how well you want to spin this, QLC + Phison E21 is still the worst combination for E21 based SSDs. Once the dynamic SLC cache runs out, the write speed drops to 100MBps max. Even the cheapest TLC 2TB NVMe SSD is better than that.

The $56 deal came after the $147 deal so is it really safe to assume similar deals won't be available later on? We know SSD prices still trending downwards.

        • IMHO even TLC SATA SSD is better than QLC + Phison E21, at least the sustained write speed would be around 4x faster and the read speed is not as noticiable.
