Ryzen 7 5700U, good CPU for that price, I would buy it if I don't already have a few laptops.

TN display panel, 45% NTSC. The Hardly Normal special.
You could get an IPS screen to replace it yourself
https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Lenovo/IDEAPAD~3~…This advice would make more sense in the context of an insanity wolf meme.
Wow that's actually surprisingly cheap. I'm assuming manufacturers pay a small fraction of that too if they'd just standardise on a semi reasonable display!
I would highly recommend not getting any lenovos with 8gb ram, 4gb is automatically reserved as vram for the igpu and the bios is locked down by lenovo so you can’t change the assigned vram. Ram usage is ~70% on a fresh boot with all lenovo default software removed. while it’s usable it’s not ideal, you will feel the page file being used and slowdown with as little as 10 chrome tabs, i find myself having to alway close everything constantly
Does that also apply to Chromebooks?
This model appears to have a slot for RAM expansion at least.
Hi viper8548, would you know if this would still be the issue for a lenovo with a dGPU?
TIA
No
This is NOT the case for this model, the UEFI allows you to change the allocated RAM for the GPU from 512MB all the way through to 4GB. It has 4GB soldered on the board and a slot for more (I added 16GB DIMM for a total of 20GB) and it still will dual-channel the ram for the first 8GB and single channel the rest.
Basically, don't worry about this issue with this particular model. THe screen is absolutely terrible though, like an early 2000s screen
Edit: There is also options in the UEFI to change the TDP of the processor/gpu (default is balanced, but you can lower it and increase it at will with selections like "Performance" and "Battery saver" etc)
8Gb windows laptops should be banned
Remember how long it took them to let go of 100Mbit Ethernet?!
Is this laptop any good? Is this laptop unit worth buying?
Yes, depends on your use case
I have the Ryzen 5 model; the screen is one of the worst I've had misfortune to lay eyes on. Unless you're looking at it dead on, the colours will wash out; and even then, the colours aren't that great.
Can attest to this, my friend has this laptop and the screen is not great at all. Would avoid, and save a bit more for a better laptop for a much better experience
Also agree here, but definitely get the IPS screen replacement linked in this thread, its much better and less than $80 making it quite a decent laptop from that point on
Stay away from 250 nit TN screens!
and 6 gigs ram!
Feel like I'd be looking at a refurb Thinkpad instead
I got this 3 years ago when it first came out (Lenovo 5700U Slim 3 with 5700U) except with 16GB and IPS.
It's an excellent laptop, quite powerful. Only negatives is the average battery, and it does'nt wake from sleep well, often have to hard reset.
Good price but not in the title.
