30

Hey guys,

i thought this was a pretty good deal for cast iron weight set. 50kg Weight Set Includes:

Double baked enamel cast iron plates

Plastic carry case

1 x 183cm barbell

2 x 35cm Spinlock Dumbbell Bars.

4 x 5kg Cast Iron Weight Plates (Discs)

6 x 2.5kg Cast Iron Weight Plates (Discs)

4 x 1.25kg Cast Iron Weight Plates (Discs)

Bars and spin locks add to 10kg

If you buy these individually, it works out to be $269.84. They are also selling the vinyl 50kg weight sets for the same price - i reckon the cast iron are better quality and therefore better value.

now to wait for a "Supermans" comments on how light these are lol

  • I was excited to grab these as I was looking for a good set of dumbells and a barbell. Only one shipping option for Sydney at $50. [Mod: removed foul language]. I don't understand what companies think they're doing but that's not a good idea. That said if anyone knows the best place to grab adjustable weights in Sydney at a good price point I'd love to hear it.

Have you ever posted anything that is 50kg before? It's not cheap. But I wouldn't expect you to know that - you're just a sillypineapple.

  • Wouldn't waste my money on 1.25kg and 2.5kg weights…You want good deals, get on gumtree

These weight plates have a 25.4mm diameter center hole which means the diameter of the included barbell and dumbbells are only 25mm. Most barbells / dumbbells on the market atm are 27mm - 28mm diameter (and tend to have a higher weight rating), and most weight plates have a 29mm diameter center hole to accommodate them.

That means if you upgrade this barbell or dumbbells (or already have a barbell / pair of dumbbells) chances are good that these weight plates will not fit them.

I'd also be interested to know if the barbell pulls apart to fit in the plastic carry case? If so, I'd suggest being careful with the weight you put on it as these are prone to fail.

I reckon if you shop around, you can find plates and bars in more mainstream sizes that are a little more sturdy for the around same price.

    • Pics please, someone measured the diameter to be the standard 27-28mm.

      • I'm going soley on the information in the listing.

The listing has the plates with "bar hole is 1 inch or 2.54cm in diameter". I've inferred from that information that the barbell would have to be 25mm in diameter in order to be able to fit into the bar hole.

If someone's seen these bars and measured them at a larger 27-28mm then it's a non issue I guess…

  • A good place to get weights for cheap are flea markets - Flemington markets (Sydney) on Wednesdays(?) and saturdays have a whole bunch of second hand weights for a lot less than this. There is no point buying weights new, people give up on fitness all the time, so there are always cheap and free weights around.
