  • which store?

    • are you sure they are identical?

Should I return Ryobi Brushless kit and get this? Still in box. Brand wise Dewalt but Ryobi has bigger batteries. Not sure of performance. Anyone used both and compared the performance?

    • +1

I find smaller batteries great for drills as it's much lighter so less fatigue especially if you're constantly drilling in awkward spots like subfloor or roof space (depends on your use in the end).

      • Thank you both. I am not big user so batteries not a problem (there are 2 anyways). Wonder how they compare especially impact driver as I currently have Bosch Green and they struggle to unscrew old ones off the wooden posts.

bosch greem = ozito + worse warranty

        • +1

I would look at the Bosch blue deal from a couple days ago , definitely a better deal than this .

    • If it's for home DIY DeWalt should be fine and the case is nice to have. Depends on use case

    • Should I return Ryobi Brushless kit and get this?

The Ryobi deal received 241 votes, but only 24 votes for this one so far. We will see after one week.

Look at the specs of each drill, not the upvotes!!

My experience with both I would exchange yeah, no shade on Ryobi but the dewalt stuff just feels better built, puts up with a lot more day to day punishment too.

    • I'd doubt you would notice the difference in performance and the Ryobi range is absolutely massive compared to DeWalt.

Unless you are a very serious DIYer or tradie, go with Ryobi.

2ah is a bit tight depending on your use, but that is a stunning price for brushless. Drills are ok as typically they are not 'constant' use like a blower or angle grinder which eat through capacity quickly.

  • Like it, but no active membership.

    • just use gift card if you can get one

OPs description might be wrong. You mentioned "DeWALT 18V Brushless Hammer Drill DCD777" but that model does not appear to have a hammer function. The DCD778 does instead.

See webpage here and the front page of the manual here.

You are correct. The normal Drill is not Hammer Drill .I was instore and it only said drill driver on the box

    • Googling the model number shows that this unit has a max RPM of 1600 only.
      Does this seem right?

  • Across all stores?

Thanks OP, just picked one up from the Perth store - heaps left in case anyone is after one. For the money it seems like a good deal to me.

  • Lack of hammer action is a limiting factor. Hammer drills are no where as good as SDS etc but they are better than nothing when drilling into brick etc. Still good value, just be aware of the potential limitation.

When advocating DeWalt I always recommend this kit - https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dck303p1xe-18v-50a…

You do occasionally get better deals or indeed this one is occasionally reduced. It's also normally available from other tool shops etc.l

    • It's a good kit but expensive at that price. It was down to $350-ish during the EOFY sales, and even now is $430 at Mitre 10 with an included impact bit set.
      https://www.mitre10.com.au/dewalt-18v-xr-5-0ah-brushless-com…

      • In fairness I did state that it's sometimes reduced. The point is that these are high quality tools and this is the normal price for the complete kit which personally I still consider a bargain at the standard price.

I also checked stock in my area for the mitre10 pack - nothing in stock at any stores within a 500k radius. I live in the lower Blue Mountains so this encompasses Sydney, Canberra and a good portion of NSW.

  • As a non-tradie (home DIYer), sometimes i dont understand why manufacturers still have a drill/driver and hammer drill option. They all should be a hammer drill as standard as it usually cost just a little more for an additional function. An analogy is that a drill driver feels like is a phone without 3G option. You might not use it frequently but it may come handy in an emergency.

It makes the drill bigger and heavier and not everyone needs that function. If you are using a drill everyday the extra size and weight might be an issue.

      • If I could get one with a hammer function and one without for the same price, I'd probably go for the one without (but I've got at least six drills already).
If you ever try and use the hammer function to drill a number of masonry holes and/or into hard substrate, you really need something that's better suited to do it.

      • Exactly. I'm waiting for a kit to come out for Makita's tiny little 18v drill as I probably use the hammer function once every two years.

However the bigger capacity in the hammer drill is helpful when drilling with very large holesaws, auger bits or through thick steel plate.

  • I’m dumb does it come with drill bits? If not what should I buy as drill bits?

  • Is they any stock in the NSW?

  • Is the deal still on ?

    • Costco Epping still had crap loads of these. Tempted to buy, but prefer a bigger kit. I was there today
