  • Are we expecting a 4080ti/90ti versions come this year?

    • +4

the 90ti was just scrapped - 80ti is very unlikely at this point.

      • +1

Reasoning is because 4090 is still dominating, so Nvidia is scrapping Ti version…

      • -2

80 Ti will probably be late cycle due to AI/pathtracing demand in the professional space.

Probably looking at refreshes that bring things very close to:

        • 4060 Ti performance starting at 4060 prices (8GB cutdown AD106)
        • 4070 performance starting at 4060 Ti prices (10-12 GB cutdown AD104)
        • 4080 performance starting at 4070 Ti prices (14-16 GB cutdown AD103)
      • They might introduce a 90Ti probably in 2024 as nvidia's next refresh is in 2025 and they would need something more than a 90 to combat next gen AMD GPUs in 2024. Who knows.

    • +1

4090 Ti / Titan class already covered by RTX 6000 Ada Gen 48GB

4080 Ti only released if AMD releases the 7950 XTX

Prices will not drop because there is zero competition, limited capacity at TSMC and the AI/ML boom

      • RTX 6000 Ada Gen 48GB at around $14k AUD is way too expensive to be a 4090ti/Titan replacement (but if 24GB of VRAM is enough, 4090 already serves the purpose of the Titan quite well).

  • +16

Leather Jacket Man would definitely call this a bargain.

      • +1

        Thanks Steve….

    • -5

Cheaper one in Umart by Gigabyte

And you can see here people only know how to click the neg button because their Ego feels hurt.
The Gigabyte one is $35 cheaper but for some oxbargainers that is irrelevant LOL

      • +2

Eagle is an entry class GPU by gigabyte. Strix should be Asus’s top of the line GPU, which translates to higher binning/clocks for which $35 is never worth. Unless of course the Strix is simply too large.

More jacking here than my mechanic.

    • +1

      Not mechanic Jack!

    • Mechanics use slow lifting hoists to help lift up their prices

  • +2

    I hate this timeline.

    • We at least recovered from COVID to an extent. But that AI!

  • +16

Is this considered a bargain? Serious question because i don't see it. Compared to last gen, imo the leap in tech isn't worth it.

    • Compared to the cards that have been reaching into the 1500-1650 range, I don't feel like this is a bargain and closer to the stock RTX 4080 price

      • +6

Feels that way, I mean compared to a $1299 7900 XTX with 24gb of ram also?

        • +3

This card definitely not worth 500 more. I would pay at max. 150 to 200 more for a 4080.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: I would buy a 3080 and only pay ~$1,000 because it has enough power and performances.
People also don't look at the fact that the 4080 occupies 4 slots on the mobo compared to 2 slots for the 3080.

The GeForce RTX 4080 costs waaaaaaaay too much:
            https://www.pcworld.com/article/1379747/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4…

            • @billadm: That depends on the res you game on, these are more of 4K cards right. IMO for 1440P high refresh a 308012Gig is good enough ATM. But I dig those large Heatsinks as they make your card run cooler and make less noise. But unfortunately its included in the cost.

        • hey what?! I'm after a 7900 XTX. Can you link to this price?

        • Pretty sure that's exaggerating the price, $1450 is usually bargain worthy, if there's 1299 7900XTXs out there you should post it.

  • +3

I picked up the ROG 4080. And at 100% load it runs at about 60degc, at 50% fan speed. No clue why you'd need anything better!

    • This card is hugeeeeee.

    • Seems the cooling solution in the 40 series beats out the 30 series, think the 3080 Strix was closer to 75°C at max load.

  • +1

i was tempted to buy during the diablo 4 promotion but switched to ps5 gaming.

  • +8

a 4080 should really be about $1200, the gpu market is absolutely crazy

    • +2

In part its because of the terrible state of the Oz exchange rate. Where we are today, it's probably worth AU$1400, or US$999. Not saying it should be, but that would be closer to the market rate.

However NVidia is happy to chase the AI dragon. If they can cement a stranglehold over that market, they won't really care about the PC desktop graphics market. The shareholders have spoken.

Of course, if the AI market goes the way of the crypto market; they will suddenly rediscover their love of gaming.

  • Prices haven't budged on 4080s for a while now, maybe 6 months.

  • -1

25% cash back at the moment

  • +3

Happy with my 4070ti got for $1060 new, this just seems absurd

    • which 4070ti did you get, King?

    • -1

      Enjoy your 12 gig vram

    • +3

People also spend >$1,500 on a phone so they feel more powerful LOL

  • I bought one of these in the last sale and returned it. Mine had loud coil whine over 60fps, audible though a closed and sound insulated Fractal Define 7, worst of any card I've ever had. It also intermittently crashed in games. Returned to CA, they said no fault found and charged me a restocking fee. If you dislike the sound of cicadas changing pitch constantly in an otherwise quiet room or don't game with headphones on I'd recommend looking at a different model. Shame as the fans were inaudible and the card is a classy looking (if massive) and very cool running GPU.

    • I noticed bad coil whine on my gb gtx 1080 after I replaced the 3X aging fans with 2X 120mm case fans which ran silently. Probably most fans mask the coil whine. Am not saying you are wrong as I havent heard yours. Probably thats how they would be when fans are silent?

      • +1

The whine was louder than everything else in my otherwise quiet machine. EVGA 3080 FTW only does it at really high fps in menus, that's expected, but not expected at gaming fps. Maybe I was unlucky but there's plenty of accounts on Reddit for this model and some other brands. For the Matrix model Asus are bringing out and newer versions of Strix cards they've changed some of the VRM to solve this annoyance.

        • Thats a bummer after paying the premium.

    • FWIW, I bought this during the last sale too, and while my card does have coil whine, it's only audible if I put my ear right up to the case. Sadly I think this is the dice you roll whenever you buy a new GPU - no brand is immune.

      • On mine it was clearly audible through the case and I found the changing pitch especially very distracting. If it was only audible with my ear right up the case I wouldn't have an issue with it. Mine sits on the floor under a desk and is closed with sound-deadening panels in it. I've had a few high-end GPUs in various systems and only ever had it in menus and really high fps but not at the fps and 4K resolution this card is intended for. I find this unsatisfactory at the price these are at. The Gigabyte and PNY offerings are supposedly mostly free of this issue - but can only go on forum comments though as I haven't tried either of these.

    • +1

I had the same issue with my TUFF OC 4080. Returned and waiting on a resolution. I posted in a couple of places and people told me 'just wear headphones'. It was far too loud for even that. Paying this amount for a card I'd expect it to be at least free of defects.

  • Damn my dream card tbh but that price is killer :(

  • Thanks I'll stick to my Asus tuff 7900xtx that's closer to 1400 than 1500….

The display port 2.1 and standard power supply was what tipped me over the edge. (As well as cost!)
2.1 should hopefully run the Odyssey Neo G95C better when it comes out.

Probably would have gone nvida otherwise even with the lower RAM.

  • +2

Some of you might be disagree with me. But to me, it is a supposed 4070ti with a price of 4090.

I keep reminding myself, do not fall for it.

    • +3

      It is actually worse

NV is double and in same cases triple charging with cards being named one to two classes higher along with all the price hikes

The CUDA core counts do not lie and the 4080 is the worst "80 Class" card ever:

      4090 = actual 4080 Ti
      4080 Ti (if released) = actual 4080
      4080 = actual 4070
      4070 Ti = actual 4060 Ti
      4070 = actual 4060
      4060 Ti = actual 4050
      4060 = actual 4040 Ti

Now that they have moved away from Samsung's shitty node to TSMC, NV are 1.5 generations ahead of AMD

The fact that a full RDNA 3 Navi 31 die 7900 XTX can only match half an Ada die (4080 by name, actual 4070) is laughable

  • -4

Not worth it, spent $200 more bought brand new tuf 4090
