  • Is this good? Looking for a good aa AAA charger to replace my Maha charger that died

    • Was it a MAHA C9000? I had one too, chucked out about 20 eneloop batteries I thought were dead but it turned out my charger was faulty so I wasted good batteries for nothing.

I bought a Nitecore UMS4 mostly for the ability to charge D cells and lithium batteries as well and I'm pretty happy with it, there is better though but at twice to nearly 3 times the cost.

yes, the C9000 lasted a long time before the LCD and buttons got busted. ill check out the UMS4, thanks

      • Same. C9000. Lasted 10 years or so.

      • The thing I don’t like about the Nitecore is that it doesn’t discharge the batteries or do a discharge/recharge cycle, it’s pretty dumb in that regard. And depending on battery placement it can show poor or good quality, so it’s a bit fiddly.

How is this better than the ikea version other than the fancy lcd to tell you stuff that doesn’t really matter?

    • +2

This one charges more than just Ni-MH which is all the Ikea one does

    • +1

The IKEA "smart" chargers barely qualify as smart. If you have one, try this test to confirm:

      • Charge some batteries
      • Let them cool to room temperature
      • Put them back into the charger and see how long it takes to detect that the batteries were already fully charged.

The current IKEA "smart" charger takes about 30 minutes to stop charging. For comparison, the Liitokala Lii-500 stops charging after 4 minutes. So the IKEA charger is really bad at detecting the "battery full" signal, and is therefore likely to overcharge your batteries and damage them.

  • For the non battery enthusiast, what benefit does this have over the basic Ikea or Energiser charger?

    • For the IKEA chargers, see my comment above.

Which energizer charger are you referring to, there have been a few over recent years. In general, chargers made by battery companies will slowly damage your batteries, so you come back and buy more. Panasonic smart chargers are are exception to this rule, but Panasonic sell far more "dumb" chargers than smart chargers, so Panasonic are almost as bad.

      • For $28 you’ve convinced me.
        Bought.

Its better than a basic charger because 1. Takes a variety of battery types 2. Multiple choices of charge current 3. Has a discharge function. Somebody else might have the time to explain what those options can be useful for. Edit: seems only the 4th slot has 2 and 3 so not so useful, this type of charger is commonly available with those options on all slots.

    • the capacity reading is useful. I recycle 18650 batteries from dead laptops, so a charger like this is good to obtain capacity rating.

  • Good basic charger for normal eneloops?

  • Is the e charging cable 5v or 12v?does this test the limit capacity of each battery?

  • +1

Good to see batt charger deals again. We are still rocking the gold standard La Crosse BC700 and BC1000 from years and years ago when eneloops were all the rage on ozb…

    • There were counterfeit LaCrosse chargers, so be wary of buying them again. The counterfeits overheated and melted their plastic case, and could cause a fire if you didn't notice the smell and unplug them.

  • I have one of these, and find it is great value. USB charging is why I bought it. Means I can charge in the car.

    • Are your car journeys long enough to charge the batteries in one trip, or do you charge them over several trips? If several trips, do you take the batteries out of the charger when the car is parked?

I placed the wrong order and sent it back - Order NO: 111936362
the goods with tracking number: R444963042800308006120909 - the sender already received

But the staff keep saying we can't refund sorry. You need to take back goods from the Australia Post office.

    Its scam
