  • Weird looking USB-C hub. Almost looks like a box of Diet coke

      Fixed link lol

Photo has updated now… They did say it's a metal design though, right?

  • Are the things safe to connect a 100W charger too?

They rely on the PD 3.0 protocol to stop the laptop from sucking too much power, right?

    • +3

It's safe AFAIK, I use a 100w charger with a 65w hub. Pulls anywhere from 40-70w instead of ~95w according to my tester

  • “Type-C PD Charging Port Not support data transfer”

    • Yeah, when they explicitly say it's a "PD" port instead of "USB-C", it's a tricky statement it's only for charging.

    • I have this widget, works fine with normal usb but not usb c and couldnt figure out what was going, great tip, thank you

    • https://amzn.asia/d/fAtKENV maybe you're after this? 49.99 -30% for 4x USB-C

Other alternatives available with 1x PD and 1x data + USB-A ports too

      Edit: I'll stop being lazy, https://amzn.asia/d/cLMsxpL $35.86 -30% for 2x C, 2x A. No charging support.

Why is it seemingly so hard to produce a hub that has additional USB-C ports, that isn't a $400 docking station? I don't need a million USB-A ports, somewhere to plug all these USB-C devices into when laptops stubbornly refuse to include more ports would be nice!

    No hdmi or DP?

    • There are plenty of cheap hubs with HDMI. For DP, see the recent used Dell dock deal.

    • https://amzn.asia/d/4Qvf6RC with HDMI for 23.99

        any thing with 4k@60Hz?

        • +1

I've only seen actual docks support this personally, they're closer to $200. Apparently there was a Dell refurbished deal recently but I don't have a link

Edit: https://amzn.asia/d/79mQ7RL UGREEN isn't my favourite brand, but this is a good option based on reviews. $39.74 with prime

https://amzn.asia/d/9BKTeHo few bucks extra for an extra usb port, $44.99

          Note

The 4K@60Hz is only available for laptops with DisplayPort 1.4 and above.

    • Correct!

  • Would this work to add a hard drive to a chromecast?

    • +1

      According to google, yes

      • Thanks ordered 👍🏻

      • It doesn't give a Google Chromecast enough power, tried with a variety of chargers.. oh well will probably make use of it somehow

        • Amazon is really good with returns, they give a QR code to take it to auspost
