    I just want a Doogee T30 pro at this price again… @Clear

The salty neggers are out in force today. I would be too if I spent $1000 on an Android tablet.

      • +6

        the salty WHAT??

      • +1

I personally don't view Android tablets at $1000+ bargains. I looked it up and according to Sam mobile this will only receive support up to Android 17. So essentially looking at around 5 years of software support. That just doesn't cut it imo for the money Samsung wants you to spend. Its easier to justify dropping 1k for an iPad because you know you'll be getting long support. For instance even my now ancient iPad Air 2 I picked up for around $650 at release is still getting updates, albeit security updates. An almost ten years old device. Try using an Android tablet made in that 2014 era, pretty terrible experience now. The way I view it, less support should see a significant difference in cost. From a value perspective less of a bargain. Fwiw even cheap Chromebooks offer 8 years worth of updates now. I get most Android suck interns of software support, but then again the other OEMs aren't pricing their tablets similar to Apple.

        • +1

Are you able to root tablets like phones to achieve the same outcome?

          • +2

@Kibbelhs: Unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms isn't the same as official support.

            • +2

@Ronnnie: Yes, I agree. My question wasn't intended to mean that. Just curious is all.

          • @Kibbelhs: is it what the google gsi rom is for?

            • @lazydesi: Never heard of it before, TIL. Also don't own a tablet but considering the new lineup.

        • +3

did …you just compare 2014 era android devices who had 1 -2 years of software support with current gen which give you 5
          then compare that with apple

so basically even though samsung has improved their support. youre comparing ipads to generic android from 2014…how does that logic even work

its literally comparing apples to oranges to pears

          itd be fairer to say
current gen apple costs x and gives you at least Y years of support (which i understand is like 6 or something
an equivalent $1k samsung tablet with 5 years support costs X

that would be far more equivalent

otherwise itd be comparing a tesla with a 1980 camry and complaining about the lack of support and mileage for non electric vehicles

          • @furythree: No, I wasn't comparing 2014 Android era tablets with modern tablets.

I was comparing the support life cycle of what the tab s9 is being promised versus what typically Apple provides with their ipads support cycle. It's easier to justify spending this kind of money on a tablet that will see support for eight plus years of support versus only five years (which I don't think is good enough for a premium device in 2023). That's a like for like comparison, I don't know why you performing such mental gymnastics.

You can see on this site the support cycle of all ipads,
            https://endoflife.date/ipad

The six year figure you came up with has been beaten on every older iPad with the exception of the original ipad.

The fairer to say part is exactly how I am forming my opinion.. It's fairer to say that Apple typically support their devices for at least eight plus years. They have demonstrated this for over a decade. I don't know where you are coming up with the six year figure? Do you have a source for this? Are you claiming Apple are going to provide worse support on their future premium iPad products? Of course if Apple only provided six years of support vs five years of Samsung, then this would change my opinion.

            • +3

@Ronnnie: youre too hung up on apple

whether its 6 years 9 years or a billion years. the point isnt how long apple supports their devices. nobody disputed that they supported their devices for a significant time. which is great

the point was that you were being disingenuous with the android comparison

yes historically android devices have crap support, but over the years they have gotten better
additionally over time the crap support was offset by a SIGNIFICANT price difference. many complained about the lack of support but were either more than happy to take the upfront lower cost of purchase. They want their cake and eat it too.

For most reasonable people, it was an accepted reality that you buy a cheaper device knowing you werent going to get long term support, but it was worth it to them. If you want long term support you pay the premium from apple for that 8 year software support so that you have the knowledge you can safely pay them $300 to replace a screen or battery later down the line instead of $60.

These devices arent so black and white comparible as you say, just because they are both "tablets". android fanbois love their sideloading and freedom which apple doesnt even have as a feature, and apple has its only unique features and quirks. Their long term software support is different as you highlighted. The repairability and cost of parts and accessories is different. Theres far more nuances than these listed things, to make price seem "worth it"
example: doesnt matter if ipads cost $100 or $1000, if you cant sideload an app for example that you really need and cant get it any other way. it might as well be a useless brick

with regards to software support, 5 years support is more than ive seen samsung ever offer up. Which is great and this is a trend that seems to be increasing. Realistically once devices hit that 5 year mark, new tech significantly overshadows it and most people upgrade or relegate their devices to really basic use like browsing and streaming, where the software support isnt really needed.

so apple offering the 8 year support is like solar panel companies offering 25-30 year warranties on solar panels that would have abysmal efficiency by that point

i still have an ipad air 2 or watever its called. Daughter uses it to stream videos. It works fine, but even if apple offered software support for it, itd be pointless given the processor and storage limitations

Many people will consider current gen devices blazing fast and overkill for their needs….thats what we thought 5 years ago too. But software bloat and higher processing needs will creep up and render current gen not that fast by 5-8yearsm rendering that superficial number kinda feel-good only. Unless you have say an m1 ipad.

  • Can I use my $100 Galaxy Unpacked code on this? Or not applicable because of Samsung edu?

    • I'm assuming the 'UNFOLD' Code?

I just tested, and it does give you the bonus Battery Pack. The $100 is a bonus trade-in credit.

      • Yes, correct. Nice. I might ask one of my nephews to get their edu email. 😄

        https://ibb.co/ggZJxxw

        • +1

Just confirmed that the code also gives $100 Bonus Trade-In Credit, when you trade-in an old device.

          • @RichardL: Some people got targeted email with a bonus $200 trade in credit.
Can confirm I tested it with the s9 and stacks with the $100 bonus trade in credits
Brings the Tab S9 256gb down to $734.20 after selecting galaxy tab S4 as a $5 trade in.

            • @Schumi5: Hmm for some reason my unique $200 code doesn't work.

The code you entered did not affect your order. Please note, codes may only be valid for certain items or in certain conditions.

              • @RichardL: I think mine said that, but it actually took all the amounts off in cart

                • @Schumi5: Nope doesn't work for mine.

I wonder if the code is tied to the account, since my $200 code was sent to my main Samsung Account (and not my EDU Account).

                  • @RichardL: Apply UNFOLD code first to get the $100 and then the unique code for the $200, see if that makes a difference. But yes may be tied to account if that doesn't work

            • @Schumi5: Is the $200 trade in credit code unique? Can we create a Giveaway thread for people that won't use them?

              • @Scrooge McDeal: Yep a unique code so I suppose you could create a thread for people who have them and willing to give or sell

            • @Schumi5: Holy shit yes, I have an old S4 tab I've been wanting to upgrade (still works like a champ, only now beginning to have battery life degradation), and I somehow got the +$200 trade-in voucher. Can confirm, getting a total of $300 trade in credit, for $734.20 on the 12GB 256GB 11 inch model. With stupid free cover. So glad I didn't jump on the Tab S8s at worse prices!

              And the outdoor cover! Bought!

              • @Qmanol: Where did you get the targeted $200? To your email?

                • @wizko: Yes, it showed up about a week before. I may have signed up for a Samsung newsletter at some point to get it, or it may have been a Samsung Members thing - no idea.

                  • @Qmanol: Damn I'm salty lol. I wish I had the $200 voucher :(

          • @RichardL: Very tempting offer for newly released tablet. I have ordered from Samsung before with no issues. But I also saw a lot of people complaining about their customer service and that they didn't received their orders.
I would recommend paying with a card where you can claim/create a dispute or PayPal?

  • +4

Use code UNFOLD with the tab s9 and it add a free powerbank. (Worked on edu store)

    https://www.samsung.com/au/mobile-accessories/10-000mah-batt…

I think depending on what product you purchase the bonus is different, eg if you order the new fold or flip it could be a different bonus

    • Just tried myself, and can confirm bonus 10,000mah Battery Pack added to cart.

    • Interesting, I think they removed the power bank now.

Testing the code and it doesn't automatically add it.

      Manually adding also doesn't work.

EDIT: so it either the Power Bank OR the $100 Bonus trade-in credit as per the email.

  • Are you sure you have the correct prices?
    128gb & 256gb wifi for me is showing $1299?

    • +1

That's the price at the public Samsung store.

      • Woops, looks like even though it said logged into edu it went to public store

Can now see the edu prices now that have logged in properly

        • Yep, both store looks almost identical.

  • Do any of these have video-in?

  • +2

Is the Galaxy Tab S series on its way to become third most popular device on uni campuses after MacBooks and iPads? I've seen a number of people with the Tab S8 Ultra the past year whereas past generations of the Tab were never a thing.

    • There's not that many option for 'high-end' Android Tablet that's available locally

    • The gap is huge but I saw more people using Samsung too. Probably because of really good edu deals and launch deals.

  • +1

EDU/EPP store will only bonus Smart Book Cover instead of Slim keyboard cover as public store

    • So your options are:

EDU: 20% off RRP & Smart Book Cover (RRP $129)

      VS.

Public Store: Book Cover Slim Keyboard (RRP $249)

  • +1

$1798 for s9 ultra 512gb, smart book cover, 10,000 mah battery pack and 24 months Samsung care.. Not bhed lol, picked one up 😃

    • Nice, upgrading from an old tab?

      • +1

        From the S7+

        • +1

Why are you upgrading? Not trying to imply anything, I'm actually interested in what the new model can do that the old one can't.

          • +2

@B3: Going to use the s9 to stay on my desk and take my s7+ out and about with me to work on, always got my phone on me so the tab just auto hotspots. Plus Ive been looking at the bigger screen for ages, I use my tab a lot for consuming media so it's a no brainer to get the bigger screen. Plus with a keyboard and mouse attached multi control makes moving files between the two as simple as dragging and dropping onto the other screen

          • @B3: I upgraded from Tab S8 to Tab S9+.

Nothing like a new gen chipset to add some extra snappiness to web-browsing (which most people dont appreciate, but some do like me).

  • Any iPad Pro owners looking to switch over?

    • +1

This is the same question I have
Happy with my 12.9 M1 pro, but also love technology, should I switch?

      • Isn't the M1 chip still better than the Qualcomm chip in these?

      • Yes .. buy the Tab S9 and use Dex … then sell your home laptop and/or desktop.

    • The apps designed for iPad are much better and more plentiful. I would say stick to the iPad. I use android as my phone, iPad for tablet.

      • +1

One advantage for Samsung Is it has the DeX mode. Adding a keyboard and mouse to iPad is still an inferior experience. if you used that feature a bit, I can see how it may sway someone to one over the other.

I've had both iPad and Android tablets for years. Because in general Android tablets are cheap and do stuff that I found inferior on Apple iPads. In general stuff like multimedia consumption is better on my old Samsung tablet because of better aspect ratio and I prefer the OLED screen. Even stuff like game emulation of older systems I find better because I prefer the OLED screen and there's less roadblocks in being able to install and run those old emulators. I've never considered choosing one over the other, because Android tablets are usually way cheaper…

The iPad win out in terms of length of support, more apps being designed for iPad that utilise the entire screen, productive applications made for iPad and modern mobile gaming is better. iPad SoC typically are miles ahead of Android Qualcomms offerings too.

  • Are they still compatible with the older keyboard covers?

    • I'd like to know this too. Keep hoping they will add backlit keys or anything worth paying the ripoff price they ask for them.

    • +1

Apparently yes, but the back cover won't fit since they have a different camera placement/size

      Source: Android Digest YouTube Video

      • I saw that, wonder if that means can use the book cover back that it comes with and the s7/s8 keyboard on front.
Was hoping this works as have an s7+ that just got dropped so could at least utilise the keyboard

    • +1

@stealth @Korax As per reddit post, the back cover won't fit due to camera and the Tab S8 keyboard will show a compatibility message on the Tab S9

      • Thank you Richard, I appreciate you letting me know mate

  • Anyone done the bonus $200 trade in credit? When you do your trade in, if you don't send the item , what's the fee? If I remember correctly from previous deals, is it $60 + the value of the trade in item?

    • Yes, it said $60

  • +2

samsung dex is awesome. my tab doubles as a laptop

    • But no longer works on Macos. :(

    • +2

Dex on samsung mobile phones are awesome.

I wish they had USB 3.2 Gen 2 with their mobile phones.

If you plug your mobile phones into a deck that supports USB 3.1, 3.2, or a thunderbolt 3, or a USB port Display, your mobile phone becomes a laptop.

Dex on extrenal display with mouse and keyboard while charging your phone.

      Perfect !!!!

    • I love wireless Dex on my phone with my Samsung M7 monitor. I hardly open my home laptop anymore. Dex is so underrated.

  • +4

i wonder when S8 would start going down in prices.
my S3 is already coughing up its last breath, but still running fine.
    lols.

    • I am with you.

    • The tab S8 has been under $700 in sales before.

  • I had them in my hand yesterday.

  • Thanks for the Unfold code.
Just traded my Tab S8 Wi-Fi in and used the code and $280 in samsung credit i got when i bought 2x S23 Utra so i onlky had to pay $229

  • wanted s9 trading ipad mini 4 showing $65 trade in value.

  • I had some email code from a few weeks ago from samsung for an extra $200 trade-in
also used unfold for the extra $100 trade-in
    got back $455 on my tab s8 5g + $200 + $100
    seems ok so i ordered.

Anyone managed to get the $50 newsletter code to stack with this?
I've been trying to use it with a different tablet on education store with the following message -
The code you entered did not affect your order. Please note, codes may only be valid for certain items or in certain conditions.
Tried chatting with the support person but they said it doesn't work and may be limited to certain items…which doesn't match what the T&C on the newsletter page says…

    • I tested the $50 newsletter code last night and it doesn't work/stack.

      • Try a different order of adding the code.

  • Will there be a notable difference between the 12gb and 16gb models?

  • Not sure if this applies to the Education Store. But for non-educational store buyers, you can request a code (through Samsung Loyalty email) for a complimentary pair of Galaxy Buds2 Pro (Graphite) valued at ($349 RRP).

Also, if you are one of the first 500 customers to pre-order a Galaxy Z Fold5 or Galaxy Z Flip5 and correctly answer the following question posted on the Samsung Members Community Platform by 12.00pm AEST 27th July, 2023 – 11:59pm AEST 31st August, 2023, you could receive a complimentary Galaxy Watch5*:

True or False: The Samsung Galaxy Fold4 has a 50MP wide-angle camera

To enter, you will need to also register your details in the link below to be considered for a chance to receive a Galaxy Watch5.
    https://samsung.jotform.com/231997947008874

    • Can also be found in the Samsung Members App. Doesn't apply to EDU store though.

    • How to request the free Buds2 pro? Chat to the supporting guys?

    • Am also curious about the process for the free buds2 pro

  • +1

Same here. Was placing order from regular store, and requested for a code and got the Buds 2 Pro for free. Pretty Good deal I must say.
