  • Thanks.. will do!

  • CCNA CCNP CCIE sounds like a string of letters to go after BSN

  • What's CE?

Spent all my youth time getting those licences now I’m fixing my home network devices asking ozbargainers what’s good and cheap.

Your home network must be slow then. Good - Cheap - Fast. Pick 2.

I've spent the last 20 years installing Cisco Catalyst 5000, 6509, 6513 + MSFC/FWSM, 3750/3850 stacks, then Nexus 2K/5K/7K these days Nexus 9300 series and in all that time I've owned exactly one switch at home, a 5 port unmanaged Netgear switch that cost me about $25 on eBay. And it does the job.

or get a TP-Link that can cost as low as $16.5 :)

      • Well, you are probably an installer who has no idea what's going inside these boxes 😂

      • Network engineer too here 😄

      • No 7K, 10K or 12K series?
Yeah my skill set is outdated. Lol

Cisco CCNA and Microsoft MCSE used to be the industry go-to certificates to get a good job
but since more companies have moved their infrastructures to the cloud
these certifications become less popular compare to Azure or AWS

    • They still ask for Cisco cert, but prefer CCIE. + AWS or Azure + Fortinet + Software Defined network (eg SDWAN) + Security
Then at the end they may tell you, "We also need somebody has experience on ClearPass Guest Wifi" 🙄

      • I was on board until you cursed at me by saying 'Clearpass Guest Wifi'!

  • I let my CCNA RS lapse. So long as you earned the certification honestly, achieving it and showing your skills is sufficient. Only really useful for systems engineering/admin roles.

Idea around most certs I found is this:

    1. Is the company a standard SMB/Enterprise? Treat it like uni. Do you need to redo your degree each time? No. Stay current in changes to show your interest and engagement in the technology.

    2. Is the company a partner with them? Get your cert updated. They’ll likely rank you higher and leverage your accreditation towards their partner requirements. Microsoft Partnerships are very known for this.

    Background: Microsoft/VMware/Cisco/Oracle cert holder.

    • I renewed my CCNP twice. Now its expiring for third time and I am gonna let it lapse. Tired of the rigamarole.

      • I did the same; renewed twice and then let it lapse. At this point in my career, experience trumps certificates. Also, current technology is changing to rapidly to focus on one technology. In saying that, everything is built upon networking, so it a solid base.

      • Renewed my CCNP/CCDP 5 times so held it for 18 years.Mostly off the tools these days so let them all lapse a few years ago.

    • It's just an ocd thing. Besides, you uni degree doesn't expire
