    • Ozito over Bosch?

      • Absolutely, it's less than half the price and all it has to do is get hot.

Are you confident the trigger mechanism will last as long?
The Bosch housing is made of PA6-MF15 which is a tough polyamide with 15% mineral fibre. What is the Ozito made of? (I really don't know) Would it stand up to the same amount of abuse?

The Ozito would be perfectly fine for occasional home use, but for more frequent use I would certainly consider something like the Bosch.

          • @eug: Yeah…glue guns don't last. I've had quite a few…this has been the best so far without going to the trade type units.

      and 200W vs 30W?

      More power = more pewpewglue

      • Bosch says power input 200w
        Ozito says heating power 200w

Oh, cool. I normally use my cordless Ryobi hot glue gun :P

        • is it safe to assume that, like a heater, these are 100% efficient?

          • @Gdsamp: Is a heater 100% efficient?

            • @Banj0: yes
              everything is turned into heat

          • @Gdsamp: Yep, it's just a resistive electric heater.

  • I've had this for years, never missed a beat!

  • This Bosch Ixo bundle for $59 was much better https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/356910

      Wow, a 5.5-year old deal!

The use cases are very different. That deal came with a tiny little hot glue pen which is great for small arts and craft activities. It uses the little 7mm glue sticks and isn't able to put out a lot of glue at once due to its low thermal mass.

A mains-powered glue gun like this is for much heavier tasks. It uses regular-size 12mm sticks and the greater thermal mass means you can put out a lot more glue before you have to wait for it to heat up again.

      • I didn't realise there were two different glue stick sizes. Perhaps I got lucky and bought the right sized replacements. Not sure what else you'd use a glue gun for other than arts and crafts. Glue is not very strong

        • Glue is not very strong

Ahh, that's because you're only using the little glue sticks with a little glue gun that can't put out a lot of glue. :)

If you use a good glue stick and a glue gun that can put out more glue, you can get results like this.

Hot glue is great for sticking power boards to some surfaces, like melamine desks. It holds on strongly and is very easily removable if you spray some isopropyl alcohol on the bond.

  • What are you guys using these things for? I bought one last year but wondering what I can do with it.

Everything, treat it like duct tape.

    • I built a knight suit of armour out of cardboard for Bookweek?
Also built a cardboard boat as a prop, went through like 1-2kg of hot glue for that one…..
