Large capacity internal NAS oriented hard drive for $22.22 a TB. It does not really get much better than this except for that weird one-off deal that everyone keeps mentioning and will die waiting for a repeat of.

Not absolute top of the line performance but you get added noise with top of the line performance so this is ideal for 90%+ of consumers.

Previous Amazon all time low was $624. Non Amazon all time low was $460 in May.

  • Max 1 I assume :(

The 16tb version of this drive has free delivery at $367.57

Works out to $22.97/tb vs $23.17/tb for the 18tb with shipping cost factored in.

For anyone wondering what was that weird one-off deal

    • Ffs

    • It was currency conversion error.

      • There was no error, I received them as per the mentioned deal price

        • +1

yes, but pricing was due to error.

  • What is the recommended max quantity to purchase in order to avoid import duties?

    • < $1000 per shipment but you can only buy 1 per account anyway (I assume)

      • Able to order 3 in one order, cancelled and ordered 2.

  • Anyone know how these compare in terms of reliability to the WD Ultrastar 18TB that are $90 dearer right now? I didn't see these Red Pro drives in BackBlaze's stats while the Ultrastars seem to be super reliable.

    • +1

Reliability is a lucky dip given how it's going to be treated on its way to you. I'd prefer local warranty.

I had 4x 8TB WD Reds and moved to 4x 20TB shucked generics and while I appreciate the extra storage (RIP RARBG ☹️), I regret not getting Reds in the higher capacity. The shucked generics are so noisy and ridiculously slow compared to the Reds. I’ll be moving back to the Reds next time I upgrade capacity or set up a replacement NAS.

    • The shucked generics are so noisy

Elements? What size? 12TB and up are helium, mine are very quiet, 6x, 24/7 in living room.

      • Yeah, WD Elements sent from Amazon UK but purchased from Amazon AU https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B09TYZCN61

I bought them in November 2022 for $475.42 each. Was a great deal then so couldn’t pass it up.

        • So 20TB Elements are noisy? I really doubt it …

          • @[Deactivated]: I have 20TB Whites (shucked from Elements) and these have been great in a 4x RAID5 array.
Similar, if not slightly lower noise profile as the previous 16Tb/14TB/12TB helium-filled Whites.

Are there ever any good deals in the 8-10TB range? Always seems to be deals on the monsters but not much in the middle ground.

  • Tried 2, lets see.

Rip rarbg and welcome 1337x dot st.

      Usenet has entered the chat

    • Also ext dot to.

    • Closest equivalent to rarbg seems to be torrentgalaxy dot to

  • Supports up to 300 TB/yr workload rate* | * Workload Rate is defined as the amount of user data transferred to or from the hard drive

These specs are getting worse every year. Now they include both READING as well as writing to the drive?

That means if you use it as say a backup drive, and verify your backups (as you should) that gives you only 410GB / day (write then read) before you void your warranty.

Saw an interesting video on these drives the other day. Will share to spread awareness..

    • Thanks for sharing this info

    • Wow that's dodgy. Are their HGST made ones (Ultrastar) affected by this?

  • $629 now.

  • Anyone else get a 8tb sent to them instead. Looks like they entered the one I got as 18tb in error when taking in inventory as the warehouse sticker was for an 18tb hdd but the box itself had the mfg code for a 8tb hdd. Pretty annoyed.
