  • Is it possible to use nord vpn with the 4k version?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Does Google ever drop prices on the Google TV to compete on Prime Day? Need one of these sticks but Amazon is a fair bit cheaper.

    • +2

And easier to use in my opinion.

      • I'm mostly interested in the Google TV being able to recommend things from all subscription services you have rather than having sections for each different service. Or has Amazon added that function?

        • Mine give me recommendations for movies and shows from all sorts of streaming services, including FTA apps.
I don’t pay attention to the recommendations though.

    • I just bought the 4k version for $68 a week ago at the Good Guys

    • google 4k has never drop to $49 to compete with amazon.
cheapest was $54 for limited quantity ebay plus deal for EOFY

the firestick 4k max is (from what i read) more faster than the google tv 4k as well.

      • Personally, I prefer the Amazon search as well. If I search "Angry Birds movie" it'll find what's free-to-me, or available for rent/buy, on all of my installed apps. It's also how I found Kung-Fu Panda without having to use the awful search function within each separate app.

  • Could be combined with Amex "spend $200 get $30" deal to get two Cubes for $94 each:

  • How do these things go without wifi? Like could I still cast from my phone to this (say, Netflix) and use my phone's data to stream and watch on the big screen?

    • Not cast in the true sense of the word, as the apps are stored on the firestick. You just hotspot to your phone and then run Netflix etc as normal.

      • Oh true could just do it that way. Thanks!

    • +1

Yes they support Air Play 2 (ie: Screen Mirroring), I usually just HotSpot to my phone though. Hotel WiFi is usually fine also, just find HotSpoting easier.
Model Hotel TVs are not 4k, so haven't experienced any data blowouts and been doing this for years.
      I also use Plex.

I also have an OTG USB adapter to allow me to both pass through power to the FireStick but also plug in a usb thumb drive with my media on it. Works great when you know you are on an airplane or in a location with spotty net.

      • +1

Using fire stick on airplane seems not as viable as tablet?

      • Oh will need to grab an OTG adaptor then, for some reason I thought it had a USB port built in. Only a couple of dollars off AliE anyway, thanks!

Come onnnnnn 2 x 4K Max for $69!!!! Please please please

    • +3

      No

  • is it worth getting the 4k max even if my TV doesnt support 4k?

    • +3

For speed and future proof yes. I have the lite and it’s slower than my 4K Firestick (non max).

    • And for the infrared and volume controls

      • I'm just annoyed that they don't work on 3/3 TVs I've tried.

        • Seriously? I travel a lot and always take this with me, to this date can't recall a problem with any TV and I've probably tried hundreds in the various hotels.
Most seem to be controlled via HDMI CEC not IR but have had a few that required IR.

        • Try the instructions mentioned here, if not tried already: https://www.debugpoint.com/2020/03/how-enable-volume-power-c…

    • Yes, I use it on my old Samsung TV.

  • Is this better than Apple TV 4K? This is a good price for amazon

    • It’s different. There are apps on Firestick you can side load (for example stremio/tea tv)

      • hopefully EU will force Apple to allow side loading as well.

    • -2

Short answer is no. Long answer is nooooooo. The only reason to get this on sale over Apple TV is to save around $200.

What's so good about an apple TV? I have an old one someone gave me and it's just a grid of apps and didn't support a store, I heard there is store support now but what's so good about it that it should cost 4 times as much?

        • You have the old Apple TV. The new Apple TV, from 2015 (called 4th gen at first) has a full App Store and proper apps. The latest version is extremely powerful, has an A15 Bionic chip which the iPhone 13 Pro/14 uses. Considering the iPhone 12, with its A13 Bionic, is still faster than than any Android on the planet in real world benchmarks, the A15 Bionic is a monster chip for a streaming device. The Apple TV 4K will feel fast for years to come and the UI/UX will always feel premium because Apple will support it for years to come.

          • @AustriaBargain: no matter how power the apple TV is
there just no freedom to install your own apps (only what is allowed on the apple store)which is a huge neg.

If EU manages to get apple to allow sideloading your own apps then that definitely make it a good purchase.

You have the old Apple TV. The new Apple TV, from 2015 (called 4th gen at first) has a full App Store and proper apps

What kind of games or apps can you install on Apple TV
is there as much games as what is on the ipad/iphone or the most popular games are also available on the AppleTV?

            • @pinkybrain: Basically, yes, as long as the dev made a version that works with controller and released it as an TVos app. Fortnite was on there before the epic spat. Chrono Trigger is on it. I don’t actually game much on mine but it works with xbox and ps bluetooth controllers and there are games.

Emulators is something I would sideload. I use emulators on my iphone and ipad with altstore but haven’t been bothered to look up if it works with Apple TV. I probably should check.

              • @AustriaBargain:

yeah the games on apple store are more casual gaming etc.
haven't seen any must play games on apple store
Think candy crush and angry birds still the most popular games on the store.

Apple store games not like gaming on switch, steam deck, consoles etc.

If you can easy sideload emulators, the apple TV probably can emulated some very powerful devices..
Not sure if it can emulate the switch or not what latest console/handheld it can emulate.
Emulated games are much more better than any games on the App store.

I use emulators on my iphone and ipad with altstore but haven’t been bothered to look up if it works with Apple TV. I probably should check.

those methods, I think needs dev account and resigning every week or something.

      • Sorry. Fat fingers. I wanted to upvote but downvoted by mistake. My bad. Lol

Officeworks Brisbane CBD will do Pricebeat, just got Fire TV Stick 4K in store for $46.55 after showing JB Website.

  • Similar to the Google devices, these are great for travelling using the Hotel TVs, Plex, Netflix ect…

I always take one travelling, in-case of bad weather or just to watch you tube after the kids are in-bed.
Tvimate is great for watching FTA TV via IP, much better then over the air rubbish.

My biggest like is the Remote, it's small without being too small, with dedicated buttons for Disney, Prime and Netflix but not Plex…:(
And this single remote controls my TV, Home Theatre and super easy to setup with hotel TVs just plug in the HDMI port. (not recommended, but can also power from USB of most TVs)

Got the 4k max for $39 after signing in new acct for JB perks.

  • -5

Reminder that Fire TV UI/UX sucks. Google TV 4K is sometimes about $59 and is better. Apple TV 4K is king but is a lot more than any of these.

Has anyone tried retro gaming on either the 4k Max or the cube, and can you comment on how much better the cube is?

Thinking of getting one to create a budget virtual pinball table, but I haven't considered the Amazon devices until now, figured if people are using Android boxes why not an Amazon one?

  • Will try the 90 min delivery tomorrow on one of these

  • FYI the firestick supports Kayo now so no need to sideload if that was a deterent previously.

  • The 4K Max are my go to for all my IPTV customers, easy to configure, and with Amazon limiting the purchase quantity to two, this deal is GREAT!

    Thank you OP.

  • Struggling to get my TCL C825 to recognise a USB with NTFS or exFAT so I can watch 4k mkv movies of over 4gb.
Would a Fire Cube TV with its USB in solve this problem? Anyone tried it with success?
    Thanks

    • why not just install kodi on TCL
then stream it from your pc?

    • I don't think it recognises NTFS, but probably does exFAT

  • I have the fire stick 4k and love it. What is the cube 4k?

    • 2 x power of 4k max
and has speaker + mic like alexa voice assistant

  • Fire Stick HD showing as $37 for me.
