That's what I was thinking is it worth saving $5 just to have this cheap crap burn the house down.

This deal is straight fire. Quite literally…

Your last 12 comments are the exact same thing, take your spammy crap elseware.

I bought 2 of these last year and have now moved to a carpeted house.

Would really appreciate it if someone guides me on what's wrong with them (and what alternative products are safer).

I do not condone using Heymix after having a negative experience with their charger and shoddy seller. However, a powerboard arguably poses less risk than chargers (the power adapters controls the amount of power it puts into your devices).

I have checked the reviews, 90 total with 6 of them negative. There is only one that is concerning from a safety standpoint:

      Please avoid buying this.
Also Amazon please save your reputation and stop supplying these boards on your store. they are very unsafe and started causing sparks on first use.

However, the sparks could also be caused by bad quality power adapters. Overall, it doesn’t seem to pose as much as risk as power adapters from Heymix or other brands with bad quality control.

        Amazon….reputation…. 🤣

How many do i need to warm up a 4 bedroom house

Until I am evidenced with actual proof that these are fire hazards (which are a parroted meme on Ozbargain at this point), I will take those comments with skepticism. I don't know if it's fear mongering or whatever.

I don't own one of these, so I'm not trying to justify defending it but I feel that the hate is a little unfair eveeytime I see these deals.

    • +2

if they were real stats would be recalled, the chargers have C tick so formal complaint to regulatory authourity would lead to a recall, and it hasn't happened, so either people haven't lodged a complaint about it or they don't have a failed unit to submit. In Australia we get recalls when chargers fail and people formal complaint or a fire has occured …..

      • +1

I have several units that have burned out with clear marks in areas that shouldn’t have them (not near a fuse)..

I didn’t know there was someone I could report and send these to and I’m fairly experienced/knowledgeable with regulatory bodies.

EDIT; I find it highly amusing that you also use the term “regulatory body” without using its name whilst implying you know who, where, and how to send it.

If you know who to send it to, you would have named them. Don’t go googling it or looking into it and replying.

Do you for a second think that most people would even know that’s an option? Even if they did, that they would spend their time and effort to go out of their way to to lodge a report, then send it?

You’re kidding if you think you wouldn’t just throw it in the bin, replace it with another strip and get on with you work until someone mentions it again and it comes up.

        • +1

Was it power-boards or charger-adapters that burnt out for you?

        • Were you able to clarify if it was 'several' powerboards that burnt out or the adapters?
Bit further down you mentioned you had 'one that has exploded' - was this a powerboard as well?

If it's powerboards that are burning out and exploding, your feedback would be really helpful to the the OzB community.

          • +2

@Joda: Several HEYMIX products, one powerboard.

I had bought these before ozb knew about them, I figured the first usb charger was just unfortunate, then I had one blow a PD trigger circuit during a diy project, which i chalked to maybe being my fault somehow, the third was my last straw when it blew a tablet with it and destroyed a $900 tablet.

I imagine the usb chargers inside these are also poor quality.

The powerboard was used by a family member, it was found not working after a power outage, we found it with a horrible smell, and burn marks towards the edge of the unit. It had all its ports populated, and it wasn’t any unusual setup.

They likely cut corners on these too, maybe they don’t use proper fuses, maybe the bus bars aren’t rated to the 2400w it is supposed to be able to sustain. I haven’t opened the boards up to investigate.

These things are not a matter of it works right now or that it has for a while, but a matter of WHEN it will blow.

If you open up any of these and look at their circuit design, they cut every corner possible and ignore common best practices.

ITTS like we sometimes collective forget that you get what you pay for to a degree, for things this cheap, how do you think they got to this price? I wish people saying these are okay would actually think about how many things just don’t add up with these

    • +1

Go to the charger reviews and there are plenty of photos of charred chargers and PowerPoints from the USB-C adapters.

Also plenty of Ozbargain reports where people had it happen to them.

      • To shiny1's point, that's not power strips though.

        • +2

Of course. But given the savings being in the <$10 mark and there being a precedent for serious electrical failure, why would you ever risk it?

          It's a terrible false economy.

    • +2

Yeah, I get your point. I only don’t recommend Heymix power adapters in general as I have had issues with them myself. With their chargers, they re use the “safety/passing standards certificates” or something along the lines of that. So a “certificate” for their item is most likely not for that item. Read this from an OzB comment. The reviews for their powerboards have no serious concerns.

However, I did also purchase a Heymix monitor arm for an ultrawide. Its quality control was non-existent as there was scratches and uneven paint everywhere. Bad quality in general too as the screw stripped and so it no longer worked.

The customer service was nice and refunded me, but legit nagged me by spamming me on Amazon messages pleading me to revise it. I already gave them 3 stars and acknowledged their good customers service. What were they expecting if I received such a trash unit. The seller was HEYMIX Life if I recall.

However, not all Heymix sellers are nice. ChargerKing who sells their chargers was a douchebag and denied it being faulty, blaming my device. Didn’t offered a replacement or refund, the seller of my fried device actually sent me a replacement. ChargerKing said they have insurance for house checks or some bs

I have one that has exploded? What do you want? Photos?

      • +2

Was this a powerboard or charger adapter?

      • If you get a moment - would be helpful to the OzB community to know if it was a Heymix powerboard (or something else) that exploded. Thx.

    • +1

I have the eight-socket one with 65W USB-C charging ports, and never had an issue with it.

BUT when I first ordered it and it arrived, it rattled around like there was some loose parts in it.

They promptly replaced that unit though and it's been a year since owning it without issues. That's not to say that there won't be issues though..

    • Read the reviews of the black version - it is wired wrong. There are pictures and details in the reviews.

There is also a comment from an Ozbargainer on a previous deal which, IIRC, says it is the same thing across multiple versions.

      This is one to avoid.

  • Unless Big Clive gives this the thumbs up, I'll be steering clear

  • +4

Mine's been working for over 12 months all day, everyday without issue, 3 USB ports loaded… Yet to burn my desk down.
Someone with firsthand experience of this unit burning care to comment?

    • +1

Same here. I have 3 in total. All working well. I mount them under my computer desk.

  • +4

Don't know why but I always find myself checking out the comments on Heymix deal posts for a laugh.

    • The comments are 🔥🔥🔥

  • +6

I bought 2 of them last time it was posted (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/699107) just a different colour. I also bought a 65W GaN charger from this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/689087). In terms of build quality, I haven't experienced any sparking/arcing/whining. I have most of the ports filled and they have been working fine for more than 7 months.
If I had a complaint, it would be the GaN. I don't believe that it charges at 65W, also when I plug my phone and for example, another phone is also plugged in, it takes a few seconds before it charges and it is slow in charging. Sometimes, the phone that is already plugged in would stop charging. Not sure if I got a defective GaN or they are like that.
    TL:DR: Powerboard good, GaN meh

    • +2

Same experience with their GaN chargers being faulty. Their “GaN” charger fried my power bank and possibly my ipad (didn’t smell anything for the ipad but it just died completely).

    • Thank you for sharing that, it's good to see a review from an actual owner.

  • Hypothetical: if you plug a heymix usb c charger into this heymix power board, would the charger (properly) still explode (charger itself or apparently the power point)? Or if you plug the charger into any power board/point, would it explode?

Is it really that bad a quality? I've read some charge reviews and they just say it's fault (stopped working). Haven't seen any mention of chargers exploding

  • +2

If folks do not recommend Heymix powerboards, then what should we be looking for instead?

    • +2

Belkin make the best. CyberPower isn’t bad either. Ultimately depends what you’re using it for.

A kettle? Buy a cheap HPM. TV and HIFI? Buy a Belkin.

      • CyberPower isn’t bad either.

        You must be new here.

        • While the switches can be hit and miss I haven't heard of them actually being a fire hazard. Is that not the case?

  • These Heymix on discount too: 12-Outlet + 4-USB + 2 USB-C
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C2KXP7LC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…

I recently purchased 2 - but not so sure after reading the fire comments

    • Looks like a mini camping heater

    • +1

They’re fine, they make some very cheap chargers though that I would avoid, the power boards seem fine and are not a huge risk anyway. The one you linked to seems to be quite a good deal, I’ve got a different version, the 60w, and it’s been rock solid

      • Wired wrong - look at the reviews for the black version. There's also a comment on an old deal for a Heymix board.

        • Can you share a link to this?

          • +1

            @Joda: Ozbargain comment - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12996125/redir

Wrong wiring is also mentioned in a few reviews of the black version.

            • @ihfree: Geez - that doesn't sound good.
Also just found the Amazon reviews you mentioned - not good either.

The ones I purchased are a different Heymix model but I will look at replacing them.
              Thanks!

        • +2

I tested multiple colours and multiple different output wattage/types, all were miswired.
I opened up the largest output one I came across thinking I could fix it, not a mov in sight, some of the dodgiest construction I've seen and I'm 99% sure that switch doesn't function as a circuit breaker, just a switch but if it is a circuit breaker then it doesn't look like one, it's not marked with any approvals or standards which is unusual for a circuit breaker.
But I suppose the wiring acts like a fuse and the led wired across active and neutral would probably provide some surge protection.

  • So do these save like game consoles? I wan wondering why my ps4 doesnt work anymore, i think it might have been due to a surge….

    • +1

      it sure does !

      "evil laugh"

    • Probably not - there's a reasonable chance that these right have surge protection - see my comment above.

  • +1

    Brought some for the Ex-wife!

  • I'd be interested in what the OzB community would reccommend instead?

    • +1

      anything and nothing

    • +2

Belkin and HPM are probably the most popular "reliable" brands for surge protector boards.

      • Belkin for the quality surge protection, HPM for good value but still quality boards that actually align to Australian regulations.

  • My thoughts are total conjecture but… I've noticed that whenever I buy something on Amazon (i.e. not just Heymix specifically), the actual seller is sometimes a nondescript entity or has a similar or variant name to the actual brand, which makes me question their legitimacy e.g. selling fake/counterfeit goods.

For example, just searching for 'heymix' and clicking through to the various search results, I have found the following sellers:

Chargerking (87% positive with 277 ratings)
SAA Selection (94% positive with 469 ratings)
HEYMIX TECH (97% positive with 684 ratings)
HEYMIX (92% positive with 619 ratings)
HEYMIX OFFICIAL (100% positive with 13 ratings)
YESDEX (91% positive with 1506 ratings)

I am completely lost about which is the official Heymix seller or whether they are all resellers. Clicking through to the seller doesn't give any information about them whatsoever.

I've also noticed that sometimes customer reviews refer to completely different products, which makes me curious whether sellers can change their listing but retain the old reviews.

I haven't really looked any deeper (hence my conjecture only), as I haven't had any issues with Amazon (knock wood), and their free shipping and returns policy inspires confidence/comfort that if something goes wrong, I'll be covered.

Just thought I'd throw this out there, and maybe someone else who has actually encountered problems with Heymix products can investigate further…

    • I've also noticed that sometimes customer reviews refer to completely different products, which makes me curious whether sellers can change their listing but retain the old reviews.

This one is a common tactic with dodgy items, though, I haven't noticed it used with Heymix products

  • I need something other than a dodgy heater to burn my house down this winter, and this looks ideal….it will do until a new CyberPower deal…

The good Belkins are almost always on sale now for half what they used to be, just buy one of those, cheapskates

  • Apparently these are fire hazards, but no negative reviews…

    • +1

      Really?

Click on the black version and have a look at the 1 star reviews. Regardless of review score, I would not buy this product or brand.

The time between reviews just goes to show it is a design flaw which is not going to be recalled or corrected.
