1.8m lead is pretty generous too, if I didn't have perfectly fine, functioning powerboards, I'd be all over this

  • +3

For those who primarily seek 4 USB charger and who already have power strips it is cheaper to buy individual 2-port or 3-port USB chargers instead. For example, a few days ago I ordered two of these https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08CDQ8G7S for $22 each of them has 1 quick charge USB and 2 normal ones.

  • Checked mine, the delivery fee $5.99 to WA

If you just need lots of PowerPoints,

    This is my fav
Tower Power Strip USB Surge Protector Socket 12 AC Outlets with 6 USB Ports Chargers Black-Powerjc https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08HK155M9/

    • Unless you constantly need to plug/unplug, why would you want that massive tower on the desktop?

      • Under the desktop.

Some of the reviews mentioned their unit caught fire!
      Not work the risk ?

      • +8

I'm sure a fellow Ozbargainer can dig up a good deal on an electrical grade fire extinguisher to offset the risk.

        • +1

I'm sure a fellow Ozbargainer would also avoid spending more money at the same time

          • @I Smell Pennies: But if you have an electrical grade fire extinguisher, think of all the cheap electronics you could buy without worrying about fires.

      • +2

but it says it will "beall right for absolufe safety using"!?

  • +15

Haven't bought their powerboards but I bought a Heymix car charger from Amazon. As soon as I plugged my phone in, the charger started smoking and melted. Stupidly I didn't look at the reviews as others said the same thing.

So I wouldn't buy their products again. But I haven't heard bad things about their powerboards yet.

    • +8

      Thats dangerous.

Report it to the ACCC, They'll pass it on the relevant Electrical Safety regulator who'll chase up the supplier

Yep. My HEYMIX laptop hub has some short or badly made usb PD negotiation that trips my laptops internal protection.

No way I'd be using 240v cheap generic Chinese power boards. Wouldn't be worth the fight with an insurance company if it burns down your house.

    • +3

This is the reason I haven’t bought any Heymix products despite them posted all the time on OzBargain. I would only trust established and well reviewed brands and can’t understand why some would rather save a few dollars buying noname chargers and batteries to supply power to their expensive electronic stuff, not to mention the fire hazards.

    • I’ve bought a few Heymix USB chargers, thinking they’d be decent on account of their claimed SAA certification.

Am I mistaken on this count? Are they really no better than all the other dirt cheap no-name stuff?

      • +1

I guess time will tell. I have 3 of their 65W GaN chargers and recently added their 120W one to my arsenal. Been happy with them so far with at least one permanently used in the house and the other two being used here and there as well as on travels.

  • How long until we get a powerboard option that features individual port wifi control?

    • Bunnings have a grid connect power board which states 4 individually controlled outlets if that helps. More expensive though.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-grid-connect-smart-5-outle…

      • Thanks mate. The spacings are trash, there's no USB but the functionality sounds like it should be there.

I always though the bunnings stocked GRID connect system needed some crappy hub but the description sounds like app and google assistant will work fine.

        • It’s Tuya. Most are wifi and some of the smaller IOT gadgets are Zigbee.

        • Yeah they dont have large spacings and the USB's, Just thought you were looking for one with individual switches.
Sorry it didnt meet your specs :)

I only have a few of their smart plugs (individual sockets) and they work great with google home and no additional hub is required.

          • +1

@TheIronDuckling: tbh usb is not that critical - the included usb ports are generally poop as far as current goes. Thanks for the link tho :)

    • +1

I doubt we’ll see it anytime in Australia and would probably be overpriced. Thus I went about to purchasing it from overseas. Individually port controlled over wifi or 4G.

      http://www.hongyan.com.cn/product_cont_624.html

      • isnt it funny how amazon is flooded with all manner of random electrical goods direct from the reject bins of shenzhen and similar..but they somehow dont have this haha

        • +1

          I agree.

I’ve not been able to find their product on other markets too. It’s only the occasional ordering direct from China that I can package them.

Love their product, compatible with Broadlink English app. Comes with timer which is good for my computers and fish tanks. Only had 1 failed coz I did something stupid and it won’t connect but still works without WiFi. 6 years in and the others are still working fine.

I've already got 5 of these around the house for about a year or maybe longer.
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-smarterhome-smart-power-b…

Running Tasmota firmware and logging to Home Assistant. Allows tracking of energy usage as well.

      • Nice. I’m not a fan of kogan in general but this also looks ok functionality wise. 3 mains ports though what were they thinking???

    • This one is individually controlled

I've got the 65W version of this Powerboard and very happy with it. Fast charging and none of the issues that I've had with my 100W Baseus 2C2U charger.

    • After they fix the rattle on this powerboard, it should be smooth sailing. :fingers-crossed:

friends don't let friends buy heymix

    • was going to ask how is the quality with heymix?

(my dicksmith one from ozbargains 8 years ago just died and need couple new ones)

      • +3

Bad. Loads of complaints on Ozbargain. If you value your electronics or don’t want a fire risk in your home (at anytime), buy something else.

    • +2

Yep. I bought a 4 pack of USB chargers from them a while ago. Not one of them worked.

      Won't go near their junk.

      • you assumed heymix is a male?

        • heymix is shemale then?

I wonder who came up with such a name. Hey you! Mix it up fella!

  • Buy BULL

  • +5

Not a deal when Heymix has massive quality issues. If it’s like their USB-C charger it will die quickly and you’ll end up spending more to replace it.

    • +1

What brand do you recommend then?

I have read bad reviews on the CyberPower model (and also a fire risk according to some OzBargainers here). Belkin is way overpriced for what they offer.

      • +3

Belkin or Thor are the best. You get what you pay for unfortunately. Amazon has pretty regular deals on the Belkin units (I think they’re great). I’d use CamelCamelCamel and setup an alert if you’re after one.

Think of the extra $10 as fire and damage insurance on your devices. Also the Belkin warranties carry weight.

        • +3

          +1 for Belkin.

Never had any issues with their boards.

Spend the extra $$ and save yourself the hassle later on.

        • Thanks, cancelled my order.

        • Can the Belkin power boards be wall mounted thought? Can't see any. What's a good brand that you can wall mount?

Edit: there was a question on Amazon regarding wall mounting, and the answer was that there's holes on the back. So maybe the Belkin ones can be wall mounted after all.

          • @fruxo: Yeah I've got a 6 port Belkin one. Has precut holes on the back for screw/nail mounts.

Never used them myself because the board sits flat behind the TV.

            • @Telios: I couldn't find any real info, so I managed to find a YouTube unboxing and it said it can NOT be wall mounted. I was just about to order, but then I didn't. I'm so confused :-p

Is it similar to what can be seen in the heymix photo where you just hook it over a screw and slide it to the side, or is it a more complicated process?

        • Damn! I was too late to cancel my order.

Amazon AU won't let me cancel, even though the status is sitting at "Ordered", and it won't be arriving until Friday. WTF!

  • +2

I bought one of these the other day. Decent power board. Note the USB ports are just standard USB-A. THere is another version getting around that has USB-C with PD up to 45w that might be of more interest to some. I realised my mistake after I received mine.

    • +1

There is also a max 65W PD model.

      • -1

Think its this one, on special now,

        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09P65NJ9F/?coliid=I1APIB9C8HST…

Not the cheapest i've seen it, but might do the job for laptop charging direct from the board.

        • I cancelled my order for this model, and swearing off HEYMIX altogether.

Judging by the sheer number of complaints on OzBargain alone, it would be much safer to stick with something less fancy like Belkin, and buy dedicated GaN3 chargers when they go on sale.

  • +6

With everyone talking about the potentially bad quality, it might be of interest to know that the 6 port Belkin board is $22 and the 8 port is $39 at good guys commercial. Seems like a better choice.

  • I bought the 'CyberPower 8 Outlet Power board with 2 USB charge port' and was cheaper than this and higher rated. No issues and would buy again.
