  • I had gotten a similar device to this one, but mine had 3x USB-C and a USB-A rather than this one's 3x USB-A.

    • Link?

      • Sorry, I don't have any, anymore. It was months ago. I got them from Ali-Express. Quality was fine.

I got two, one that will do 100W USB-C charging and the other was about $25 but would only do like 45W or 65W I can't recall exactly.

They're probably not particularly efficient, but great for throwing in a travel bag so I can charge all my different my devices when I'm on the go.

        • -5

          Thanks
          Too bad not on temu

        • Price was $24 till I logged in now $26 something!
Ali is always looking at ways of squeezing a few more bucks out of the purchase it seems..

          • +2

@cristobaljamesy: then "10% tax" which is just randomly somewhere 10-40% of the price.

still cheaper than amazon/ebay, but they're totally taking the mickey

    • +1

mine is same as yours, 3 usb-c and a usb-a. Brand is a Lencent which seem to be very popular as well. Can't remember how much I paid but I found the deal here on OzB anyway

It's not so bad if the hotel burns down instead

  • What a HOT deal.

  • +6

I guess one might need something that can burn the airport and hotels, not just one’s own house.

  • Whats the spec of the usb c wattage?

  • Im sure this will falls if you plug it to japan power point vertically (and use 2 cables to charge stuffs)

    • Just use your luggage to hold it in….

    • +2

Used four of these style (had a couple of 65W ones) on a recent trip through Japan and Europe (me, my wife and my kids each had our own to save hassles with charging devices and running Australian appliances). Yes some Japanese outlets were a bit loose, but never was a serious issue.

I had a pin-only adapter in luggage just in case we needed it, but we didn’t.

      • Probably you were connecting one cable only at a time? If 2, 3 cables to one (this thing) im sure will weight it down or make it fall?

        • +1

We usually had 2 - 4 cables - phone, AirPods, iPad, laptop, cameras etc. plus often an AC appliance (I use a CPAP).

Sure they fell out at the slightest touch and sometimes it was a bit iffy, but there’s more a reflection of tired sockets than the adapter per se.

          • @LoftyAu: Thanks you convince me. I need to google about cpap tho lol

      • -3

I've never heard of japanese ones feeling "loose"..

        • -1

        • Japan wall power sockets Are 'loose' - some safety thing for child electrocution prevention I guess - and have no grippiness - thus the discussion of suitable adaptors

    • Aren't Japan plugs basically the same as American?

    • nah - dunno this model but I believe I used a similar one - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/145946702477 - in Japan about 5 months ago

and the box sits flat against the wall so doesn't automatically fall out of the no-grip Japanese wall power sockets - unless you pull it and don't pay attention - so yes some attention required while moving cables - so you don't wake up next morning to find none of your devices have charged and their batteries are all flat.

worst case you don't want is a long cable sticking out of a Japan wall socket where the slightest movement will pull and it will fall out - this box shape helps resists that.

anyhoo now I'm using mostly USB-C cables - this USB-A heavy adaptor is no longer interesting to me … meh

Shoddy build quality. I have 2 of these that I got for free from a while ago (price error) and they are just way too bulky and don't really stay well seated in the sockets due to how much play / wiggle the extendable plugs have. You don't want a loose or wobbly outlet plug (poor contact) since that increases electrical resistance and that could generate a lot of excess heat.

Suffice to say I've just left these at home and not bothered taking them with me to trips to USA/SG.

If you are in need of a universal charger that you can use anywhere in the world, do yourself a favour and grab the Bon Voyage (Crest) USB GaN Chargers from officeworks https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/883916

Advertising with a baby to show it's safe
Showing an Australian passport to make it look local.

Yet it's not compliant to Australian standards and the uninsulated pins make it a safety risk to the baby in the photo (and anyone using it)

    • +2

I believe you don’t need to use it in Australia; you need to use it when you’re travelling abroad (with an Australian passport).

      • I believe you don’t need to use it in Australia

But you can, especially as a USB charger.

you need to use it when you’re travelling abroad (with an Australian passport).

What about when travelling abroad without an Australian passport?

Or regardless of your passport when you are in America or China or Canada or Japan or the other 50+ countries where you would still be exposed to the uninsulated pins when using a Type A or B socket

  • +3

Are these good? The reports are they will burn your house down

    • I don't think any of these "universal" travel adapters are good or safe.

    • -1

It's repeated internet chatter. Pretty common with forums.

If you can find an actual source where these have caught fire or that they're statistically any more dangerous than other brands, I'd be surprised.

      • +1

I have a clone of this and been using it for 2 years, sits in an awkward position where I often accidentally kick and dislodge it from the mains. Hasn't failed or burnt down my house yet.

        • I have the exact same HEYMIX one. It sits permanently on my wall beside by bed, and I take it with me on trips overseas.

At home, I use it to charge my laptop (slowly), tablet, phone, etc. just through the USB ports alone.

It uses a fuse and has a spare one in case it blows. I don't worry about this one being plugged in and turned on 24/7.

      • +6

Someone on OzBargain did a teardown of another Heymix product a while ago and the build quality was unusually crap. Not all white label stuff is the same, and there are differences in quality between random brands.

Yes I saw that. And ever since everyone on here thinks they're a bomb. I don't recall that comment being verified in any way or tested itself or compared against anything else

People also keep saying this doesn't meet "Australian standards". But what are those standards? And where had it failed?

Oh well. what do I know. 💁‍♂️

  • +3

FWIW I’ve used one of these for the past two years for lots of trips and it’s worked as it should. Would buy again for sure but since it’s still going strong there’s no need.

  • Cheers op, my no name brand one broke on a recent overseas trip

    • -2

This one will not broke but probably will burn

  • -3

better have some good travel insurance if you get one of these

  • +1

    Qantas Frequent Fyer

Used similar to these but the Lencent brand instead for a month long trip through central america and they worked great. Mine even had a replaceable fuse that worked really well when I accidentally used an appliance that was drawing more current than the maximum listed. It even had a spare fuse with it, so took me all of two minutes to replace it and it was functioning again. Had no issues with them not sitting well or being wobbly.

    • +1

Yep, the Lencent brand is great and is what I'd pay a bit extra for. Mine has also lasted for years.

  • +1

3 USB A and 1 USB C seems like the wrong balance for future use. And the wattage seems quite low? I would suggest spending a bit more on an adapter with more USB C ports and higher wattage.

  • This is much better IMO with 65W GANT charger. With this, I don't carry extra adapter when I travel anymore, since most of the time the adapter is used to connect to charger.

    • Yep just need a bit lower in price hehe

    • +1

Not an even comparison when it’s almost triple the price

      • 20 bucks off ali sometimes

  • What in the sweet jebus.

    • +1

Sweet Baby Jeebus in the promo shots too ⚡️👼

  • wow not a bad little kit for 19 bucks.

  • +6

These rarely fit into every plug socket. It's better to get the one with a swappable attachment and just carry the little pouch of the ones you'll need. This ends up being so big and heavy it pulls itself out of most wall sockets let alone if it even fits.

    • Worked for me in about 20 different hotels across Japan, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy a few months ago.

  • -1

This or Bon Voyage Credit USB chargers?

  • +1

I have this and after the first day it started buzzing and hasn’t stopped. I think it’s the fuse

  • thanks Op, got 1

  • -1

If travelling overseas you may not need these anymore.
Every hotel outside Aus i've been to since covid have universal sockets in the rooms. It's been great not having to lug around these bulky things anymore.

    • +2

Not if you are travelling to asia, it's very rate for hotels to have a universal socket in the room in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Bali or Philippines

      • -1

Oh interesting, recent stays in Phillipines and Vietnam had universal outlets.
I havent been to Bali or Thailand though.

        • +1

were you in high end Hotels?

I was just in Philippines and the hotels in manila or iloilo didn’t have universal sockets

    • +1

      Terrible advice

almost every single hotel (3-5 star) in my recent trips Japan, Hong Kong, China and S. Korea did not have any universal sockets in rooms

there was only a few in China that didn't need adaptor

  • +1

agree with above comments that Heymix adaptor prongs are too loose, also the unit is pretty bulky

  • -3

Are these the ones that cause an inferno?

  • 17W? charging will take years for modern devices

  • The lencent charger is 100 times better but it can't be shared on the site due to sock puppeting. I've bought three and they haven't missed a beat.

  • Is it comply with safety regulations?

    • +1

      Of course not lol

  • Looking for a premium lightweight international adapter recommend.

Based on the comments it seems like heymix is shit, bulky, low quality and unsafe

  • +1

@OP, take an Australian powerboard with you as well.

    • +1

This is exactly what I do, one travel adapter and one powerboard that can charge almost as many devices as you need

  • -1

    Does this work in japan?

  • +1

Just checked and looks like the code doesn't work anymore

  • Anyone else had their negative review of their heymix products removed from Amazon?
