I bought from last deal it's amazing

    • +1

Yeah, i know its a lot of money, but it genuinely is very impressive just how good this thing is.

      • Whats the appeal of this compared to v10/v11?

        • +2

laser light for hardfloors, on/off button, “better” suction, particle sensor, built in accessories etc ( BTW I’m a happy owner of a v11)

          • @GregFiona: Got this and a v11, paid $1550 around the start of the year for the gen5, difference is huge. Much better and easier to use. Hurts that it's 2/3s of what I paid in about 6 months but it's still worth it imo.

On/off switch is super convenient, hardwood light is great but it can be super surprising just how much accumulates over a very short time period and it makes you a little OCD running over every corner and crevice.

The particle detector is cool but is only really useful when you're running it over a fabric, where it really shows how much it's picking up, on hardwood or tiles it's sorta redundant imo.

The accessories are great, but in my experience you'll end up with more that you don't use than you actually regularly use.

The accessory I would recommend is the standing multi floor dock or whatever it's called, houses all the accessories and keeps it constantly changed without too big a footprint.

            • @Figure8: Does leaving it on the dock to constantly charge reduce the battery life?

              • +2

@Ryder08: It may have well done, but it's not noticeable, I easily get through my house and it's a decent sized space and I'm very ocd about it thanks to the light.

There are three settings, eco, auto (changes to medium depending on what attachment/head is on) and boost.

Never used eco, auto/medium run time is about 45 mins or something and I've never had an issue with it.

Boost I only use in the car and on the rare occasion but it's very much for spot cleaning as the battery life says it will last 8 mins on the setting (really it shuts off after 6.5/7 mins).

Also there are some really good attachments for this, although I find the tread/wheels on the sides of the hardwood light one can get a little finicky when stuff gets in there which is annoying.

@Figure8: Thanks. I was going to get the V15 but GG are out of stock for delivery and no C&C near me, so will get this one instead

                  • +1

@Ryder08: I think it's worth it over the v15 at this price (mate has the v15 and it's not too different but the v15 is a bit heavier which I can see getting a little annoying)

@Arsenal over the v11 it's more than an incremental upgrade. V15 is much closer

                    • @Figure8: Well that’s good to hear, but yeah.. definitely a very good machine regardless of comparisons

                  • @Ryder08: Also, if you have pets, there's a couple of attachments for that and hair detangling head that never gets clogged or has issues. That was a huge step up from the v11, I've moved from using the hardfloor light one twice a day to once with it and once with the hair detangling one.

                    • +1

@Figure8: I have the v10 and yeah, the hair tangling is a huge pain. Didn't properly care for mine so every brush is just full of tangled hair.

                      • @Ryder08: Had the same issue with the v11, was a biweekly chore to cut the hair out of the head, was so gross.

            • @Figure8: I got the v11 from triple bonus TGG deal with free spare battery, charger, standing dock and extra accessories. Not too bothered about the laser light as I don’t have a big hard floor area and that area is looked after the Deebot robot(vac $ mop) anyway. Also, the on/off button is not a problem, trigger switch only $9 on Amazon.
Having said that, I bought the Gen5 for mother in law ($921 deal) and she is super happy with it

          • +1

@GregFiona: Got it in the last deal and the laser light really makes a difference to seeing how dirty the floors are and where you have missed spots.

            • @The Captain: True, but my not carpeted(or rugs) area is only the kitchen and small bathroom downstairs, Deebot robot does a better job as it has got an oscillating mop attachment

        • Its an incremental improvement i'd imagine, and i doubt it would be worth upgrading to, but i was coming from an 8+ year old dc59 and an even older corded dyson, and so it is a massive upgrade.

  • I can't even get in

    this or samsung jet?

  • Anyone seen any non affiliated resources that do a roundup/comparison of all of the different Dyson stick models? Have gained a lot of info from reading the comments under the listed deals, but looking for bit more intel.

Fairly large house, rely on Roborock for majority, mainly hard floors with few rugs and one room with carpet tiles, currently drag a 10yr old dyson around the place for monthly cleans.

  • As someone who has a couple long hair cats, the gen5 is impressive on hard floors and carpet.
