Plex Lifetime Pass TL₺822,99 (~A$47.67) with Oldubil @ Plex (VPN Required)

3000

A hero has emerged! So much praise to I Smell Pennies for their incredible work on helping our holidaying and migration to the beautiful country of Turkey. I thought this would be worth posting on its own, since it's great value.

For this deal, you will need to follow their instructions for the other deals to obtain a Turkish Mastercard. This can be used for their numerous other deals as well, so it's worth going through the steps (as a bonus, you'll be able to use it when you holiday/migrate also).

For those who have been holding out on Plex Pass, it's great to pick up a subscription whilst you're in Turkey, with the price dropping nominally below $50 AUD given current exchange rates. There are a few extra $$'s required for exchange fees, nonetheless this is a great time if you've been wanting hardware transcoding and app access.

Step by step:

  1. You will need an Oldubil digital card with sufficient funds to make the purchase (TL₺822,99)
  2. Once you have landed in Turkey and have access to the internet via your Turkish ISP (alternatively, you would be using a VPN. NordVPN works well in Turkey), go to the Plex Pass Upgrade landing page. If you are connected appropriately, you should see a prompt to upgrade at a monthly price in TL₺. If you see another currency, you may need to try another ISP/VPN.
  3. Click the prompt and create or login to your Plex account.
  4. Select lifetime pass for TL₺822,99
  5. Enter your Oldubil card details; as helpfully pointed out by kaneoriley the postcode 06700 is appropriate with default Oldubil bank settings
  6. You should be able to purchase the pass successfully.

Some users have had issues with their card transaction not working, so perhaps it is worth making sure you have something else you can spend your Lira on in case you can't get the transaction to go through. I had no trouble using NordVPN.

Most likely a new account or atleast you will have to lapse your current plex pass.

    • did you figure this out? i have an existing one that i'm reticent to setup a fresh one and not keen on going through the whole setup process with my family again

      • hi, yeah unfortunately i ended up making a new account…couldn't upgrade it.
What you can do is use your same email address but use googles email variant feature to keep the same email.
ie [email protected] —> [email protected]

Then I logged my server into the new account….was relatively easy…but yeah will need to log in your other family devices again which is annoying.

        • legend, thanks

  • I have a monthly plex pass that has just renewed today so it's currently active .

If I login to turkey via VPN using my current account can I upgrade it to lifetime?

or do I need to create a new account ?

Also if I upgrade my existing account will it refund pro rata (I know it's only $6 but just wondering, )

    Thanks

    • did you figure this out?

  • Hi Guys,
I was going to take the plunge. I have a revolut account, and an acct in Turkish Lira currency, but not able to transfer money to Oldubil.
I have tried to pay directly with the Revolut account, but doesn't like it as it says its an Aus based card.

I obviously need more coffee!? What am I missing here?

Any help would be great, thanks guys!

    • +1

In revolut you need to tap on "exchange" to exchange from AUD to TRY. Then you international bank transfer to oldubil

      • Thanks mate… I've been trying that… But I can only see the IBAN no. And card no. In oldubil. But I need a swift number too.

It mentions on oldubil I must enter card number… But no where to enter that. Argggh lol

        • According to the walkthrough in link above it's "CAYTTRIS"

  • Been stuck on pending with "leaving for recipient's bank" from revolut to oldubil for 24 hours

    • Same here… :/

    • +2

From the mastercard how to for the gamepass link:

Update: 28/06/23 1:00pm - **Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer.

      • Thanks for the info.

  • So we can't just change the card country (and use an Aussie card in ₺) like previously with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666383?

    • You will get an error that your card is from the wrong region, unfortunately they patched this a while back.

  • Is this just the regular pricing now? I'm hoping it's not a sale so I can buy when the funds land in oldubil.

    • +1

Correct, this is the regular pricing.

  • Anyone get this working with NordVPN? ( Currently trying with NordVPN app on android phone)

I am only getting option to upgrade in $AUD ( $157.75)

I am getting plex email notification of sign-in from Istanbul so I know VPN is working to some degree.

    • Mine did the same. Opening with incognito window fixed it.

      • What browser did you use? I have tried Google Chrome and Brave so far ( in normal & Incognito).

        Edit

I just tried creating a new account and pricing is in Turkish Lira. I don't really want to have to create a new account though.

        • Have you tried switching the emails on the accounts. That use to work.

  • Does this work if you already are paying month to month?

  • Spare acct for Plexshares

  • +1

Rumours that Plex is in trouble and they might end the lifetime pass

    • You'd better get it before then in that case.
To be fair they won't make any money from lifetime subs, and that's before VPN hacks
Roon and Volumio have stopped offering that, two I can think of.

      • They could not grandfathered it. Who knows

        • I guess as long as you got your value out of it till then it's still a good deal..
Some of them have gone to yearly subs now, still a discount for paid annually.
Having said that, plex has been around for yonks so who knows.

  • I just received the money into my Turkish bank account. Plex Pass now complete! Many thanks!

    • Did you have an existing account, or set up a new one?

  • Thanks OP!!!

Just got it worked as followed your instructions.

  • Yep i also received the money from wise.. all activated, had to do incognito

    • when did you make the transfer?

      • I transferred to wise on the 28th, it said at the time it wouldnt be ready until the 3rd

  • Money didn't end up in my OlduBil account and I've tripled checked all the details were correct and their support has been no luck

Money into the void I suppose

    • Same… Still waiting

      • Does your Revolut / Wise transfer say successful too? Mine says it has landed with OlduBil

        • +1

Yeap, my Revolut said Received by recipient's bank at 1.30pm today, but Oldubil still shows 0.
I was reading a few other Turkey Ozbargain posts, quite a few members are in the same boat as us, although some lucky ones have already received.

          • +2

@blueastro: Yeah same here. 1.26pm today Revoult send email money has been recieved by bank. But oldubil still shows 0

            • @nippy: Very much the same timing for me. Still 0

          • @blueastro: Exactly the same for me until this morning money was in and now have got my lifetime Plex pass :)

        • Hang in there guys, it'll come. Mines just cleared now from 10pm on 27th transfer.

          • @RX7: ^^ this. Payment just got cleared through

          • @RX7: Still waiting on mine :(

            • +1

@blueastro: Mine just got in. But it got in quite less :(
I have sent 868 lira from revoult. Oldubil got 783.75

Sending another $10. Man this is turning out to be $60+

  • Worked fine. Revolut to Oldubil took just over a week.

PrivadoVPN worked well with Istanbul and post code 06700

  • Done and dusted, thanks OP, now what to do with the 5,63 Turkish lire in my account, virtual soft serve?

  • Was anyone able to successfully upgrade if they were already paying month to month? Did you need to cancel your monthly subscription first?

    • To answer my own question: You can cancel the monthly plan and then re-open your Plex account details in an incognito tab and it will show the upgrade option in TL currency and will even discount an AUD amount based on how much time was left on your monthly plan.

I am yet to do the actual upgrade step however as I don't have sufficient TL in my oldubil yet (way more fees were taken then expected even after the Wise transfer). Will update this comment once actually upgraded.

      • Update: It worked - thanks OP!

  • Money successfully received in Oldubil and Plex Lifetime Pass purchased. Thanks Op.

  • +2

I started with a $50 transfer and the lira finally landed in oldubil but by the time it got here its 782,77 lira, not enough to get the plex pass.

Just a note to send a bit extra as now I need to do another transfer.

    • How do you transfer to oldubil? Doesn't allow me because my number doesn't start with +90.

      • When you sign up press on the +90 and it will let you choose +61.

        • I did choose +61 and was able to validate it. Problem is when I go to "Transfer money to Oldubil", I get an error saying "Accounts that register other than GMS starting with +90 can not transfer money due to regulations." What am I missing? TIA.

          • @johnyBgood: Rather than transfer money you need to go to Deposit money then Deposit via bank transfer.

            • @No: Thanks, this worked. I tested with 5lira and failed as i forgot to put the card no in the description. Tried again with 10 and finally worked but took 24hrs to reflect.

    • Same, I thought I sent enough but I ended up with 812 lira. I started with $52 AUD which converted to 901 in Revolut but once everyone milked some fees outta me I ain't got enough :( Sending another $15 worth.

  • Thanks OPs , money went through. Bought the plex pass. Ended up costing $58 dollars total

    • Thanks OPs, pass has been activated, cost $55 total leaving extra 40.11 Turkish Lira excess about $2.30.

  • Can anyone confirm how many $$ i need to send to Oldubil? would $55 be enough? I dont want to be a few Lira short haha

    • Just overshoot it, any spare lira you can put towards a YouTube premium or google one sub

  • I sent a test amount from Revolut yesterday but it hasn't Hit Oldubil yet. I just read on another thread that Aktifbank Bank isn't working anymore. Has anyone get a solution on how to get funds onto Oldubil yet?

  • -1

Never heard of Oldubil, sounds like a lot of work.

  • +2

Thanks OP, I can confirm this still works following the linked instructions with a few changes:

I used "Garanti Bankasi" as the selected bank, since Aktifbank Bank is no longer visible on the list, I also used Revolut to transfer the funds to my Oldubil account for reference.

    Garanti Bankasi details:
    IBAN: TR68 0006 2001 6150 0006 2908 93
    BIC / SWIFT: TGBATRIS
ADDRESS: LEVENT NISPETIYE MAH. AYTAR, CAD. NO.2 BESIKTAS
    POSTCODE: 34340
    CITY: ISTANBUL

Also, I made sure to triple check that the reference field only contained and matched my 16 digit Oldubil card number exactly with no whitespaces.
$50 AUD is not enough to cover the cost after the Revolut ~31 lira fee + Oldubil %6.25 deposit fee, so I would recommend sending $55 worth of lira to be safe.

It took about 5 hours for my transaction to complete (baring in mind the different timezone and bank opening hours in Turkiye).
After that, I purchased the Plex pass connected to NordVPN Istanbul server and had no issues with that.

    • Individual or Business Transfer in Revolut?

      • International business transfer with "TURK ELEKTRONIK PARA A.S." as the company name.

        • how long did it take for the payment to go through?

  • I’m trying to get YT premium via turkey, not plex, but I sent money via Revolut to OlduBil and it’s been about 5 days and still nothing. Anyone else’s take this long?

  • Any chance this works with EMBY too?

  • +2

    Just an update.

My test transfer from Revolut (sent on 8/07) came though this morning. Time to send the real money now :)

    I used the following details:

    Garanti Bankasi details:
    IBAN: TR68 0006 2001 6150 0006 2908 93
    BIC / SWIFT: TGBATRIS
ADDRESS: LEVENT NISPETIYE MAH. AYTAR, CAD. NO.2 BESIKTAS
    POSTCODE: 34340
    CITY: ISTANBUL

    • Thanks OP!

Did the same as mintyman and used Garanti, was getting a error in Revolut otherwise.

  • -2

    what is PLEX for?

    Is it worth?

    • Sounds like you don't need it, just good if you hoard downloaded movies and already got a Nas.

  • Thanks OP! Got the Plex Pass!
Originally transferred the exact amount(around 50$ including Wise fee). But received fewer Turkish Lira in Oldubil than required, as the Turkish bank took their cut from the transfer…Had to transfer 10$ more…So Pass cost60$ in total.
Money got transferred from AU bank to Oldubil within few minutes.
Used the Windscribe free VPN, as they are the only free VPN with Turkish server.

    • There's an Android app called Turkey VPN that works also. Free.

      • Oh good to know! Thanks

  • Got this to work. I had money ready to go in my OlduBil account.

The issue for me was that NordVPN Turkey servers would time out when processing this. Strange thing is Nord worked for other Turkish payment portals.

I switched to WindscribeVPN and then did the steps above and it all worked, first go.

  • Omg! Just dodged a massive bullet. I am an absolute idiot, and this one thing which I really didn't have to do, I ended up doing it.
I by mistakenly sent a payment from revolut account to olldubil bank account without specifying my card number in the description/reference. Literally a min after i sent the transaction, I realised. I was just feeling so upset. I really thought my money was gone.
All I did was asked revolut to send a SWIFT transaction report, which I emailed to oldubil along with my details from my registered email. And BAM! its done!

I just can't believe how luckly I am, depsite of my mistake of not adding the correct reference number, I still manage to get the monies in my olldubil account within 3 hrs of opening my revolut account. Plex done :D

  • Just use Kodi - have set it up to avoid ads on on-demand apps, kayo etc. More simple to navigate too.

  • Oldubil now charging 9.3% due to increasing costs or some bs

    • up from 6.25%

  • I use ininal, they don't charge any transfer fees so you only need to pay Revolut fees. They do charge 2 TL/month if you have any balance in the account but you can just transfer however much you need in the account and spend all of it and keep the balance at 0 to avoid fees.

The only downside compared to Oldubil is that they do ID verification so you will need to send them your passport details (from any countries, doesn't have to be Turkish).

    • +1

so you will need to send them your passport details

      F that.
I'd prefer a small fee at Odubil and be done with it.

  • Using the Revolut method I've been waiting roughly 30hrs. My initial transfer only took a 2/3 hours but being hit with huge fees on both sides of the transfer resulted in me having less than the required amount. Really this shouldn't be posted as TL₺822,99 as the fees alone increase this cost significantly

    • +1

I transferred $55 from revolut and I was left with 31.61 TRY in Oldubil after paying for Plex.

    • You’re meant to top up more, to account for the fees. The fees are clearly stated on the Xbox Game Pass post, otherwise you wouldn’t have known how to transfer in the first place. Everything has been transparent from what I can see.

    • -4

Lot of effort… What a FK around.

How much is a lifetime sub anyway,

      • 159.99 for lifetime pass, so just over 100 dollars in savings for a "lot of effort."

        • -3

          Ha ok

They go on sale for lot less pretty often without all this BS. I'm happier saving $70 for something you don't need ;)

          • @G-rig: you be you, dude… nobody telling you buy it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

            • -1

@sonovolantis: correct. I don't have a NAS and not spending hundreds on setting up one one for little need.

My issue is more with this cubersome hack, seems like quite a lot of trouble.
I could have in the past when on special any number of times, but didn't need it then.

              • @G-rig: You don't need a NAS to use it, plex can be installed on any pc basically. You also don't even need plex pass if you are just using it at home on your network. Where it starts to make sense is if you want to stream your plex library to other users over the internet.

                • @bohn: Yes but would need to leave that PC on - more power than a nas.
Ok that sounds handy, probably good if you got kids but I no shortage of things to stream and don't tend to watch old movies over and over. Cheers,

                  • @G-rig: My parents are travelling in a caravan and connect to watch content. I keep adding things, and delete when watched.
